- Russell Fork Gorge VA "On Water Guide"
This video is a POV Russell fork lap I did last week. I love this river and the area is amazing with such a great group of paddlers that have always been super welcoming to me every year.
I know that a lot of these rapids have multiple lines and lots of hazards. Did the best I could on the fly. Going through the footage I did realize I missed lines and points of interest leave in comments what I missed or should be pointed out?

Sometimes I don't lol thanks for watching Bobby
Thanks for sharing this Wade! I have to make it out there soon, looks like a blast.
Thanks for watching..
I would just add to avoid any confusion in such a critical spot that when you're sitting below fist and talking about getting further right you are meaning further RIVER right. Basically you want to be as far away from that undercut rock (on the river left) by being as far as possible over on the RIVER RIGHT bank and avoiding anything to the left unless you're intending to tempt fate with the hairy ferry.
The rocks and flow shift so much on this river after high water events and we've had plenty these last few years. The last time I was in there basically all the flow at lower water funnels directly into the undercut on river left. A class III rapid with Class V+ consequences.
Be safe ya'll. Thanx for the guide Wade!
Thanks for adding additional information I did try really point out the dangers on that rapid there!
@@WadeHarrison you did a great job pointing it out. I just wanted to reiterate the danger ⚠️ there and that flows are ever changing and the lines that were there a year ago may not be there today.
We all know the line at Fist has changed over the years. I pretty much shoulder it now at any level above 300. I’m old and not ready to die yet 😄
The locals say that if you paddle paddle the RFG as many days that they do, you’ll eventually end up in that cave whether you like it or not. So from what I understand, many of them are also walking it now.
I posted above accidentally from from biz account Local Moguls lol. Maybe I’ll see you up at the Fork this weekend. 😄
God, this makes me homesick. #VirginianlivinginIdaho
i can see that
Great video. I grew up in Northeast KY but live in MI now. Just got into whitewater kayaking. Can't wait to get experienced enough to run the Russell Fork. Have you ran Grassy Creek? I believe thats the name.
I want to It just hard to catch living 5hours away from there and its rain dependent..
@@WadeHarrison I have seen one good video of it in the winter and it looked pretty cool. Thanks for sharing vids.
nice one, making notes 👌are you in a Large Rewind?
No I hated the large rewind I was in the medium
Beta time - Well I can handle the put in anyway 😂🫵🏼
