Guiding Kayakers Down one of Upstate South Carolina's best Kept Secret!
The Thompson River
Yes that's Right SC the entire section Putin and take out is in SC right on the border of NC in the Jocassee Watershed.
It seems a few times a year when the gate is open and the rain falls in the right spots. We all get a chance to get over to the Jocassee area and slide down this gem known as the Thompson River.
It flows off the other side of the mountain from the Whitewater and Horsepasture rivers this one also empties right into Jocassee lake. Drops over 500+ feet in less the half mile. Very tight run always check for wood in all major drops and put on and go. When clear of wood and charging hard its almost one big park and huck run! - Jak na to + styl
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! What an incredible day you guys had. I also agree no music and let the water roar!
Hey thanks yeah thereâs enough of those sound track videos out there Iâm not doing that anymore
Thanks for the fun ride. What an amazing water slide.
Really liked that you kept the sound raw and natural, just water and voices!
Hey thanks for watching yeah Iâm done adding sound tracks it time consuming and thereâs enough of those out there
You know it's gonna be stout when Wade is in a creek boat.
Lol funny I almost took the rewind and then thought wanted something with little more tail volume. And after that blown skatepark line very happy to be in a high volume kayak!!!
Wow what a killer video. That looks like a gem there. I have heard of the lake but never this river. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah it dumps right into joecassee lake on the far back side of the lake
oh looks awesome ! such a great day!
Itâs a gem to bad donât run much
The dude in the Rewind had a clever way of getting out of that hole... I saw those paddle strokes on the back deck... Good awareness.
For sure thatâs a sticky ledge...
Stumbled upon this tonight and love it đ
Reminds me of the alapahoocheee river and Alapaha River Basin. Unspoiled in North FL and awesome rapid runs on Turkett and Swift Creek. Y'all ever been paddling in North FL??
I have been around the springs down there thatâs it
Nice! Great paddling!
Thanks buddy
This shit is intense... Love it!!! Great vids, keep em comin.
Thanks buddy
That river looks sick! Thanks for sharing! I will have to add this one to the list.
For sure if you can time it right itâs one of those runs your like wow đ€© want more
@@WadeHarrison What do you mean time it right? You are talking about after rain or something like that?
@@smoketheartist9501 timeing because after rains it can be very high or the gate closed or will not get enough water and when itâs running it will run out of water very fast it has almost no tributaries so has a very small window to catch it before itâs to low.
that looks really fun.
it is very much
Cool looking river
Itâs amazing in there
Wow this place looks fun!!
Itâs short and sweet
Awesome ride
Yes for sure!
That looked like a great day with some good paddling
Thanks buddy
No problem
We gotta go get on this next time it goes. That looks like so much fun!
Itâs the best in the southeast
Dang I canât wait until we get good enough to go to spots like this!! That slide is the shi!!
Itâs worth it if you can catch it
Gotta graduate up a few notches first lol! NW AR hasnât had any rain in a few months so we are just watching ^^^
Funny how Dane posted the same run a day later đ both vids equally as entertaining, keep em coming!
I seen that also and Dane was there the same day I was. I loved the part were he said Oh it would suck if went left there and I actually went left there I ask if he wanted to do some paddling together at some point so I look forward to both of us doing something together at some point maybe.
@@WadeHarrison stoked for you!
that looks like trout water
i dont see that
What run is this?
Itâs called Thompson River
It's a juggling pin guys.
yup
Weâre yâall on the Thompson River there?
Yes itâs the Thompson River runs out of NC into SC the section in this video is all in SC
Thatâs great! I didnât know you could laugh that section! Iâve been on the outlet of Thompson right by the lake but not as far up as yâall were.
*kayak not laugh lol
@@shortfinancial yes thatâs where itâs at right before the lake but you do need a lot of rain to dump there for it to have enough water to get down
@@WadeHarrison That is awesome! Thanks for the tip. We're just lazy kayakers with sit on top (ocean kayak style), nothing like you and your crew lol! But we live not too far from that area so will have to go over there soon. Do y'all drive in over by Bad Creek at the gates that let you into DNR land over to Musterground Rd or how did y'all get in?
That moment you share a best kept secret on one of the largest social media sites in the world... đ
Hahhaha yeah thatâs probably true but it still seems to be a mystery because catching the water levels right gate closers location and getting someone to take you down keeps its a secret
Wade... This is entirely in SC...
Holy shot bro your right I was looking at AW and they gave the entire run listed so itâs on the NC page. But I just looked at google maps and your right the section we paddle itâs actually put in and take out in SC...
@@WadeHarrison NC Thompson is mega stout, but WNC gets way too much credit for Jocassee! My family didnât lose their homeplace for everyone to think itâs all in North Carolina. Stout Cak
Well the entire watershed I think is 9 miles and only the last 1/4 mile is in SC so I get it when I get back my computer I will change thumbnail also...
@@WadeHarrison supreme 1/4 mile for sure! Whatâs hidden under that reservoir has got to be epic.
So true buddy!
Not that far right.
I will take far right anytime over that left!
