Looking for the secret to the perfect Paloma cocktail? Look no further! In this video, I'll show you how to master the Paloma with my secret grapefruit soda recipe. I was never a big fan of grapefruit soda due to its artificial flavors, so I decided to make my own soda to bring out the true grapefruit flavors in the Paloma.
To make the grapefruit soda for two servings, you'll need 6 oz grapefruit juice, 1.5 oz lime juice, 1.25 oz 2:1 agave syrup, and 5 drops of half and half salt and MSG solution*. Simply shake all the ingredients together with a large ice cube, then fine strain the mixture into a siphon. Inject a CO2 cartridge, shake gently for 10 seconds, release the gas, and open the siphon.
To make the Paloma, fill a highball glass with ice and add 2 oz of blanco tequila. Top with approximately 4 oz of the homemade grapefruit soda, sprinkle sea salt over the drink, and garnish with a grapefruit slice.
With this recipe, you'll be able to taste the true flavors of the Paloma without any artificial ingredients. Master the Paloma and impress your friends with this delicious and refreshing cocktail. Watch the video now to learn my secret grapefruit soda recipe!

JEAN-FELIX!!! These are some great tips!!! I bet this is def a nice cocktail using that soda!!! Awesome video!! CHEERS!!!!
Thanks my friend! Cheers
Holy cow. This channel is just straight up 🔥🔥🔥. This is without a doubt the best Paloma I've ever had.
Thank you so much Sean! Cheers
I love the simplicity of this drink - great tips for improving it!
Thanks a lot sir! Cheers
Sin duda uno de los cocktails mexicanos más famosos junto al Margarita. Perfecto para el verano 🤤
Lo malo es Que en Mexico los hacen pa la fregada con tequilas inferiores como cabrito o Jose Cuervo y con Fresca.
The Paloma is my favorite cocktail. I've made it plenty of times at home with a combination of grapefruit juice and Topo Chico. I tried your recipe today by making my own Grapefruit soda and it is a game changer. I cannot have a Paloma any other way now.
What a great and easy technique. I can't wait to try it.
I’m telling you, a game changer
Nice! I jazz up my Palomas with grapefruit oleo saccharum, and I really like it. I'll try it your way next.
Excited to try this recipe! I've been on the hunt for the perfect Paloma!
Really hope it’ll end your researches 😉
Amazing! Love it 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks a lot 🙏 Cheers
Waiiiit whaaaat?! The Perfect Paloma?! You are speaking to me brother ❤
Personally speaking I use Topo Chico for the bubbles and acidity, with Giffard Pamplemousse, Jarritos Grapefruit Soda, your recipe for saline solution, fresh squeeze of grapefruit and lime, plus a barspoon of Mezcal and a pour over of Champagne.
Then I just get a bottle of Mezcal and a liter of Squirt and some limes and just go to pound town 🤣
Kick ass that you made a fresh grapefruit soda! I love how we all bring different ideas to the mix. Respect your recipe bro 😊
Whoa! A champagne Paloma! That sounds fantastic
I bet your Paloma would be good on top of an extra brut sparkling prosecco like Bele Casel Superiore.
Thx for the videos. How long your soda stay fizzy?
Incredible once again!! How would I go about making this for a large batch? For a bar for instance ?
Great video. How did you get rid of the pulp?
In the bar i worked at we did our own graipfruit soda.
We cooked a sirup out of the juice, (i think orange blossom water) and cinnamon blossoms.
And then just sodastream and mix.
That went fantastic, i dont know the exact amounts anymore, i would need to recreate that
Nice 👍
Awesome
Love this! What brand is your citrus juicer? Have never seen that one before, but looks super handy when dealing with a lot of fruit!
It’s an antique gem Sefra found for me a while back. Doesn’t have a brand
Must try this! (And I will probably try to see if i can make a fermented grapefruit soda as well)
That’s the kind of project I’d like to be updated on
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks will do! :)
I really wants to try the Paloma this way.
Cheers to that
omg je viens de réaliser que t’es québécois! hihi j’adore tes vidéos!
Haha! Thanks
Question for you, do you think the Ice Spear is better than 1x1 Cubes? Or is just a preference
@TrufflesOnTheRocks How much msg, salt and water did you use for your solution?
Nice redirect to the Margarita Video at the end!
Just a friendly reminder ;) Cheers!
god dangit i want one of these !!!!
Haha! Cheers 🤩
@Truffles On The Rocks You're batting a 1000% You never Miss
Thanks Tony!
2:1 Agave syrup meaning? What’s it mixed with? I appreciate some clarification here!
What % dilution are you getting? I just add about 1.5oz cold filtered water to my canister instead of shaking in advance but essentially make mine just like you do.
WOW!! Sold!! Don't ask me what I would love to drink tonight!!! And...for the entire week-end 😁😂
Celebrations 🎉
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks ouiiiiiiii 🎉🎉🎉
Hey JF! Was wondering if youd recommend a sodastream for making the grapefruit soda? Are there any downsides to doing this? J'en ai aucune idée mais c'est plus dans mon gamme de pris et ma copine veut un sodastream alors c'est plus facile a justifier l'achat. Wanted to try using my highschool french sorry if it was bad LOL.
The only soda maker I know that can handle sugary liquids is the drinks mate. and I think it's even cheaper than the SOda stream. And there's no downside using this. Actually, it might be even more efficient ;) Cheers!
P.S. ton français est legit
hey bro where to do you get the C02 and N02 cartridges for these b-ars cream whippers?
Amazon my friend
Question:
You use a cream whipper designed for n2o & put a co2 cartridge in it correct?
Correct 👍 it works too with co2
Damn that looks so refreshing even though it is 9am and cold where I am 😄
Take that as an invitation for an early weekend starter. For the cold weather… put on a sweater and go grab that grapefruit and tequila 😜
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks OH I got my "Trying my Best" Sweater on. And might hit the liquor store in a bit!
Video jumps so much it’s like watching Max headroom.
What is that juicer called? Need to pick that up
It’s a vintage piece. Good luck finding it. I think it’s Juice mate
Thanks, a little message for support
Always appreciated! Cheers
2:1 agave syrup. I haven't heard that one. Is that 2 parts agave syrup and 1 part water?
correct
If you want to use the grapefruit soda for another cocktail, do you still add the lime juice in the grapefruit soda? Or is it to balance the sweetness of the Paloma? Thank you !
I made this recipe so there's no other ingredients to add except for the Tequila. So the sweet and sour is balanced to my taste. So if you want to use grapefruit soda in another cocktail that requires different sugar, involves liqueurs or things like that, you might want to rejigger the specs. Hope this helps
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks Thanks a lot man, really appreciate you take the time to answer. Keep it up!
how long can you store the soda?
It’s more something to be used à la minute.
Can I make the soda with iSi Soda siphon? I've read that it's only good for sparkling water.
Hey! Yes you can but remove the tube (keeping the seal) and make exactly how I did in the video
Sounds like a great Paloma 😊 But it is practical to use it in a bar? Because it takes time to make the grapefruit soda and you can’t store it 🤷🏽♂️
Hey Julien, there are many ways you can make this in a bar. You can prepare the base in your mise en place, (grapefruit, lime, sugar and saline) in the quantity you expect to go through during your shift. Then, get a drinksmate which is a soda maker that handle sweet liquids and it can carbonate about one litre of juice at the time. If you get two bottles and one machine, you’ll be good to serve the best Paloma ever all night long. There’s also the force carbonation method or even the keg cocktails that can be efficient in a high volume scenario.
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks The drinksmate sounds awesome 🤩 Thank you for the hint 👍🏼
2Nd?!?!?!?!?!/===========>YESSSSS!!!!
May I know why MSG?
It is naturally found in grapefruit so making a saline solution with salt and msg is just a perfect combination
Engagement.
You probably went to a shitty bar if your Paloma wasn’t good in Mexico. You should go to El Gallo Altanero in Guadalajara. Love their Paloma Cocktail.
As a mexican, I wouldn't add the saline solution, rather to rim the glass with salt. Otherwise, great video, keep it going man
Whats the point of making all of this if you can big soda from premium brands like Thomas Henry or fever tree
Well that’s the whole point. Give it a try and you’ll see. Even top shelf mixers are filled with artificial flavors, preservatives, acids … not because they do t want to make things right, just because the fresh stuff don’t hold in a bottle. So again, give it a try first and let me know. Cheers
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks Homemade soda is good at home bar.
Cheers
@@matkapolkaa we’re clearly not aiming at the same level.
First 🎉😊
You got me!!!
One Idea:
Since you sometimes use Soy Sauce instead of saline solution, wouldn't it be worth a try here, too?
I want to try it
I think in this case, The Paloma is a bright cocktail and I would be afraid that soy sauce would take away some of the bright notes. But for science sake, please try it and let us know how you liked it 😉
The spoon brake the bubbles .
Sorry but I must say it
Is the MSG really necessary? I actually don't like this in my food or beverage.
It is not necessary no. So if you don’t want to use msg, just double the salt in the solution. That said, Unless you experienced problems when you had ingested msg and are sure you are not tolerant, I would read a little about msg. The whole panic about it is more a xenophobic problem that arose in the 1960’s. Cheers my friend
looks amazing but to much work
Msg? Nope
the audio for this video sounds like youre a bit under water.
Thanks for reminding my my apartment is echoey 😂
Du Glutamate Monosique.....pas sérieux là!
👍🤩💝Great with everything except….🤔No no no….You lost me at MSG.
What’s wrong with msg
@@samuelhernandez4135 - 😞 I get headaches & migraines and I just don’t trust it in general…it’s just my personal choice not to consume it. Since alcohol is a Group 1 carcinogen, drinking alcohol in general is bad enough (I rarely drink, and I’m not going to stop drinking) so I have decided to be choosey about my poisons.😂🤣💝
@@lovingatlantado you eat tomatoes? Cause there’s more msg in that then this drink, msg being bad is a myth look into it. It all started “around the 70s and 80s people would binge eat Asian food at all-you-can-eat buffets and feel sluggish and bloated afterwards. Someone labeled it "Chinese restaurant syndrome" and figured the MSG in it must be to blame. Even thought it had zero scientific backing, people found it convenient to point the finger at an "exotic" ingredient instead of their own body and habits, so the term caught on, and MSG became associated with health risks.”
Just leave out MSG, it's obviously optional. Headaches from MSG is also generally disproven.
@@LKamii 👍💝
come on bro no one has that
This seems like a very unnecessary way to make a Paloma.
And why so? In my book, making things better is never unnecessary. 🤔
Do you know what MSG is and what it does to your body? Not good!
This has been widely disproven.
You are making this comment on a drink that has 24 mL of alcohol. As Jean-Félix has stated, MSG is a compound found naturally in grapefruit and other foods. The panic about MSG being harmful is a xenophobic fairy tale widely dismissed by science.
