This was the most standout Folio Society book even before I knew what it was even about. This video was worth the wait!
Yeah mate, it’s gorgeous. 😍 As usual with special editions, I probably won’t actually read it 😆 but it’s nice to flip through and enjoy the illustrations.
Is it showing off? Nahhh, it’s sharing the joy! Though I have wondered much the same when it comes to book hauls, which - book buying ban challenges aside - I’ve much reduced shouting about for similar reasons. But I’m excited by hauls, whoever it is. I’m not really a Special Edition collector but will dip in for very particular reasons like you described here for this lovely set.
Man those books look amazing! I like the fact, that the artwork on the outside is totally different from the artwork inside, but both look great! 👌🏼

These are absolutely beautiful. I’ve done my fair share of poking around on The Folio Society and have yet to purchase anything, and these editions have always caught my eye. Congrats on an exciting purchase!

Gorgeous! I don’t know if I’ll ever collect too many Folio books, but I love having my copy of A Wizard of Earthsea. These look like worthy editions!

I love that they appear to be 'fuligin' spines with metallic red letters. I wonder if it's vantablack.
I was guessing it might be. It definitely looks blacker than black somehow.

They are amazing!!, the illustrations inside and the artwork outside are fantastic and so different!!. I will love to have beautiful editions for my shelves but the same here, been moving around quite a bit for many years so still getting paperbacks or Kindle 😅
One day you may settle down a bit like me, Alma. 🙂 Then you can start collecting.
those are indeed fancy books. sophisticated books. I didn't expect the colorful covers, compared to the spines. if you enjoy and want to splurge, why not!

These are absolutely GORGEOUS! They might be the best books Folio has ever released... Unless you're trying to make people feel bad, or make yourself seem like a better person for having it, I don't think it's showing off. I like to enjoy them vicariously through this video lol at least until I can get my own copies in the future... possibly. 😁

Some folio are great prices, you will buy more, I just bought Shackleton’s Antarctica 3 volume book, they are gorgeous editions, great pictures and maps that come with them.

I almost bought the folio edition of book of the new sun yesterday.. put it in my cart to see shipping price which alone was more than most special edition books lol. I was so tempted to just buy it. Even more tempted to add dune etc to the thing (they offer a free note book if you buy two books and I'm 100% the type of sucker to fall for that)
But yeah. I should probably first focus on a bunch of other things before I buy any folio books. Once I buy that first one I know I won't be able to stop buying them
But man I'm so jealous, here have a Nazar bead 🧿 so my jealousy doesn't damage your books somehow lol. These will definitely be my first folio books
Ps there is a darker than fuligin "vanta black' or whatever it would have vene really cool if they used the vanta black' on some parts of the book. Its so black you can't see shadows just like his fuligin cloak
But I love the covers even though the style of the art doesn't seem to match at first. But the art I've seen inside is mad beautiful

To be fair, it IS 4 books, not just one, so of course it’s a bit more expensive than a single special edition.
@@MattonBooks Hahaha I mean the shipping price, made a typo. And unfortunately the 4 book limited edition is no longer available but they do have a very similar, unlimited collectors edition which has two larger books instead. I saw the 4 book edition going for 2000+ euro (it was signed I believe)
The collector’s edition with 2 books, with 2 books inside each, is indeed the one this video is about. 🙂

I wish I had every illustration in high quality and the associated page nr. So I could view them as they show up on the folio book. Man those illustrations are pretty.

This edition was actually my introduction to Book of the New Sun. I was browsing the Folio website a year or so ago and saw this book, thought looked interesting, clicked on it, saw it was well-liked by my favorite author, or at least one of them (Neil Gaiman). I didn't buy the first book and start reading until a couple months ago, though
And how are you liking it Shep? I’m in the 3rd book right now, and some things are starting to (sort of) make more sense…
Folio society is too expensive for me, but I understand your excitement, because that's how I felt when I managed to get a numbered/signed (illumicrate) special edition of Sabriel by Garth Nix. He's personally one of my favorite fantasy authors so I'm happy I got one.
Now I can't wait to get Daniel Greene's Neon Ghosts this year from the Kickstarter. ☺️
Yeah, Folio’s up there price wise. I’m certainly not going to start collecting them, but this was nice as a treat. 🙂
not showing off at all... I've had these for years and every new one gets me excited to share, maybe I'll make a video on them some day... I have (By Folio Society), 2002 Kelmscott Chaucer, 2009 Moby Dick, 2022 James Joyce Ulysses, 2022 Lord of the Rings set, 2023 Beowulf, and the entire series with the Vellum spines (Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels, Rudyard Kipling Just So Stories, and many more)... They are worth showing off!
