My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I'm in my mid 20's and I've been a singer songwriter and performer for over 10 years. Currently I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma and I am in the process of recording my 4th album. I have a Bloodhound named Spooner, I love Mexican food, collecting Stephen King novels, collecting CD's and cassettes and my favorite movies are tied between Jurassic Park and Alien.
Current Moshpit Count: 18,582 Background Music by Karl Casey @WhiteBatAudio - Zábava
Some of the first death metal I ever heard back in about 1989 when I was 13 so they will forever hold a special place for me ❤
Same here! I was 14 when I bought it in 1989. Awesome album, just supremely CRUSHING Death Metal. I still have that old cassette, it will always be a landmark in my life. It was my first step in to the world of truly extreme music.
Me too! I went from alice in chains to harmony corruption and slowly we rot!! Never looked back!
Same!
I have the Vinyl LP. I was a guitar player in a well known trash/death metal band in Iceland and I had my influence from Obituray.
Same 14 I've seen them at least 20 times and every time they come around. I was at their live album recording in boston! Only like 40 people there it was unreal!
Obituary took a lot of inspiration from Celtic Frost and Hellhammer.
They do a great cover of Circle Of The Tyrants.
Slowly We Rot is good and a great starting point but...
Obituaries Cause Of Death is one of the finest OG Death Metal albums ever made.
Fun stuff.
Huge influence. Obituaries whole guitar tone is very CF. I'm very OK with that!
It’s 100% Hellhammer worship
The beginning of this song even sounds like a straight clone of Triumph of Death.
@@jason_108 Funny thing is that their rhythm guitar tone suits their style so much but it isn't a brutal, edgy tone. It's a unique guitar tone they pretty much have had to this day except it sounds better than ever now. What's CF btw? Lol.
@@jasonbodden8816 Celtic Frost. Very identical guitar tone. They’re pretty much the only two bands that have it. Huge influence for Obituary hence their cover of Circle of the Tyrants
Aside from CF and Hellhammer, I think they took a LOT from Discharge, Amebix, and Nausea. And Black Sabbath of course.
Cause of death. Best album. Chopped in half!
you mean Chopped in Hauuuuaaaauuugh!
I'm 1986 armwood high grad .. where it all started with obituary..peace out.. I also was an intern at Morrison sounds where I have seen just about every artist Cannibal Corpse, obituary, death, you name it I was there when it all started,
Hands down my favorite band and favorite album ever, of any genre. The Inhuman vocals by John Tardy and the eerie solos and riffs by Allen West. Only matched by their own "the end complete" album in my opinion.
Yep.
But i got to know them because of C.O.D.
90's was amazing.
John tardy voice is 1 of a kind & very consistent to this day.
Bro!! Love this band for its nostalgia. But kudos to you for it being your favorite band. There are 1000 bands that could easily be your favorite and you chose Obituary. I fucking love the commitment.
Agreed
I love this album! True masterpiece for sure! 🤘🤘
Obituary is still my favorite death metal band to this day and probably in my top five bands period. So amazing that all those death bands erupted out of Tampa. At the time I remember just about everything in death was coming from Scandanavia or Tampa. Slowly We Rpt is great but I think they perfected what they were about on Cause of Death.
Cause of death is one of my favorite death metal albums
Probably one of my most listened to albums. When I was a yougun I would listen to this album, Decide's self-titled album and Lefthand Path by Entombed over and over and over. So many memories connected to these songs.
You can so hear that Candlemass tone, and Hellhammer/Celtic Frost influence on this album!
Great reaction!!! You must listen to the entire album!!! Absolute masterpiece of old skool death metal!!!! This song specifically and the general sound of Obituary: a lot of influence from holy Celtic Frost...Greetings from Brazil: country of exceptional Sepultura: classic albums: Bestial Devastation (1985), Morbid Visions (1986), Schizophrenia (1987), Beneath the Remains (1989), Arise (1991), Chaos A.D. (1993), Roots (1996), Quadra (2020), last album, also excellent, but with a different vibe, different singer and drummer, Sarcófago (INRI, 1987), etc...
check out Deaths third album "spiritual Healing" track 4 Within the Mind and track 5 Spiritual Healing are the only two songs i'm aware of that use the cowbell and this Album is the Only one to used cowbell.
my personal favorite album from them... them vocals are one of a kind
BLACK METAL GIRLS LISTENING PINK FLOYD
@@maxRobespierre-rt6xwwhat?
I seen Obituary, Carcass, Slayer, Testament among many other bands. Ozzfest 05 was my 1st HUGE event.
What I like about Obituary is they not trying to reinvent the wheel. They know what people want and they good at it.
Cannibal Corpse is the chaotic brutal massacre
Obituary is the slowly trudging through the swamp to hide the bodies lol
Celtic Frost -Morbid Tales" or "To Mega Therion" should be your next listen, Kaiya. They are Obituary's biggest influence. Their guitar riffs are clearly influenced by the masters Celtic Frost.
They even covered "circle of the tyrants" by CF on the "cause of death" Album.
Their best song imo is from their "weird" album though, "Inner Sanctum". Or "Third of the Storms" from Hellhammer.
YER
Bought this along with beneath the remains on the same day summer 1989. Still have my vinyl collection. Saw them live twice in 1990 in the bay area.
"Slowly we dwell! (tendenden tendenden tendenden riff) Slowly we deaaaaeauauuuaeaeall!". (The Tardy effect).
Bless you Kaiya! I hope you're having a good time :)
Recently I see some people who bad mouth Obituary. Saying that "they don't really deserve to be mentioned next to Morbid Angel, Death, Immolations, Suffocations, etc"" All the classics.
While I think that after The End Complete they turned duller, they do have a really distinct sound and style. They have some of the dirtiest riffs.
My favorite band!!!!
slowly we rot is GOAT death metal
Obituary is amazing in the sense that they have been like the pinnacle of the genre for over 30 years and haven't really changed. They do their own thing and are instantly recognizable.. John's vocals are completely different than everyone else in the genre, the guitar tone is always kind of scooped, but sounds only like "obituary", the drums are great without trying to be overly flashy. They just have that straight forward uncompromising crushing sound and ya gotta love em for that. Cause of Death and World Demise are my two favorite albums by them
Agreed except one thing. Guitar tone. They very much adopted Hellhammer/Celtic Frosts guitar sound. It's so damn sweet tho. Top 3 DM bands for me since 1991
Another great Blast from the Past. A great forcast of what the 90´s have to offer.
Love the Bolt thrower vinyl at the back 🤘🏻
USA Florida, is where the recording took place.! Boulder Colorado is where "other" Death Metal bands like Cannibal Corpse come from. The original "death metal" scene was transposed from Germany (Destruction, Sodom, Tankard, Kreator) England (Sabbat), Sweden (Morbid) & Eastern Europe.!
What a bunch of bollocks. First of all, Cannibal Corpse is originally from New York not Colorado lol. The original death metal scene is from Florida, there was no other scene before that. And then, neither of those european bands were death metal, they were sounding thrash metal or blackened thrash metal.
ye@@Qliphirot
Now we're talkin!
My first obituary (cassette) album.
they were 16 or 17 when they did their first songs as Xecutioner and my favorite cd is slowly we rot or cause of death body bad and chopped in half are the best songs
Time for a whole album review of Cause of Death. Top 3 OSDM album for me since it came out.
The end complete is my all time favourite album from them.
Hell yeah! Love Obituary 🤘🤘 One of my favorite Death Metal bands!!!!
One of my favorite bands....seen them, hatebreed, and prong a few years ago and lost my mind moshing on a wet floor. Felt it for a week....still feel it now cause I'm old lol.
2nd comment.! I've read "Lord's Of Chaos" by M. Moynihan & D. Soderlind. Chapter #2 pg. #28 Quote; the 2 world capital's of Death Metal, were Stockholm, Sweden & the unlikely location of Tampa, Florida.
You are missing out if you don’t react to one of the best Death Metal albums of all time, Resurrection Embalmed Existence. Please do, you WON’T be disappointed!
Slowly We Rot will be my funeral song
Best album of Obituary: "Cause of death" followed closely by "The end complete" IMO.
Now you're cookin' with gas! 😉 Obituary is a forever favorite 🤗
Greetings from Pennsylvania!!! Classick album!! Still rules!!! ❤ 😀 ❤ 👍
Fun fact Obituary were called Xecutioner before they changed their nsme.
one of the best death metal songs out there ! 🤘
great song and album
I saw them Thursday at the Party.San Festival here in Germany. They were awesome as always.
I’m so used to listening to brutal death metal and goregrind lately that some traditional old school death metal is a nice and fresh detox for my brain😂
Indeed man, something it can get overwhelming, that its refreshing to hear some 90´s old stuff
@@felipegiraldo8100 yep! I remember when i first got into metal, just like Kaiya my first introduction was cannibal corpse back in 2021 when I used to be big into shit rap (like lil Uzi vert and Travis Scott and lil baby 🤮🤮🤮🤮) I discorvrd cannibal through the
Album reviewer Anthony Fantano I remember the cover for violence unimagined was freaky and interesting to me and so I listened to his review and the way he described the music was different than anything I’d ever heard prior. So I listened, it hurt my ears at first but I liked it then I listened to all cannibal albums and found it revolutionizing for me, then I gradually discovered everything else, a girlfriend I had at the time introduced me to slipknot. And then I got into all the deep deep ubderground stuff like atmospheric black metal and goregrind and gore noise and shit lmao but yea slowly coming back around to the og 90s stuff 👏
@@felipegiraldo8100 I’m actually so into metal I was motivated to start 2 one man projects, one slam/brutal death metal/ goregrind, and then a black metal project
i already told yall but i saw OBITUARY live in boston last may they did not disappoint
hell yea obituary is amazing his voice is one of a kind and awesome death metal saw them live they are great and their new cd is amazing
What kind is church bell that obituary use
Yhis is a master piece, one of my favorite bands!
Mr Hardy !!! Best vocalist 🤘 Last album is AWESOME !!!
Hellyea. I bought this cassette about the time of Death - Scream Bloody Gore. \m/
You could do some Hallows Eve, Coroner, Seventh Angel, Cryptic Slsughter, Frost Like ashes.
I was in Catholic grade school and took this and Cause of Death to school to show my friend Joe!! Later in high-school a jock gave me the CD and he was like it's to Heavy for me!! You can have it!!! ❤ 😀 ❤ 👍
Obituary is great and this album is fantastic so is your shirt kaiya
Cause of Death….. best album… ever
I love when you dig old gold :) I dont like when you dig "silver" .... Obituary are with the first 2 albums gold - Cheers from Denmark and keep your journey into extreme gold :) !!
When I first heard this on a mix tape back then I thought it was Celtic Frost …
Those riffs are HUGHELY inspired by CF, hail CF
Grazie Gorgeous Kaiya 🌹
FIGHTING LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEE
This is the most badass song ever written prove me wrong:
The vocals and guitar tone really got me into Obituary, even though I hated it the first time I heard them.
Their guitar tone is almost spot on with one of their greatest influences Celtic Frost. It's so so sweet
You need to do a full album review of Ritual by TBDM. Best album of all time.
Cause of Death is probably their best album.
Listen to the first song on benedictions grand leveler album for more death metal church bell kaiya
“Self titled album slowly we rot” ???
Salah satu band death metal terbaik di dunia yang menurut saya sangat bagus apalagi vocal nya masih yang terbaik..album terbaik menurut saya cause of death karena dibantu pemain gitar james murphy..
You know, it's interesting that John Tardy's diction sucked so hard the first couple albums - he sounds slurry like hella drunk - but as they went on through the years his vocals became more understandable. The new album, "Dying of Everything" is the clearest I think his vocals have ever been. Fucking love Obituary. Nobody does groovy Death Metal better.
It's not that his diction sucked, they just didn't write any actual lyrics for their first two albums. There was some random words and phrases about death here and there but most of it was just gibberish.
A fantastic album but i do think the demos they released as Xecutioner is better
i see the aborted vinyl--make avid to aborted engeniering of death
