So… You want to know how often you really need to wash your sheets. Well, if you ask enough people, you’ll probably notice that everyone has a different answer. But I’m here to set the record straight and settle this debate once and for all.
Don’t get me wrong - most of us already know that it’s important to keep your sheets clean. But you might not know about all the creepy critters and funky fungi that can live in your bedding if you don’t wash it properly. So keep reading to learn exactly how often you should be laundering your linens, and why snoozing on clean bedding will earn you better Zzz’s.

Why Do I Need To Wash My Sheets?
Before I reveal exactly how often you should be washing your sheets, let’s talk about why you need to wash them.
Dust Mites - Every night as you roll around in bed, you shed thousands and thousands of skin cells, with any dirt or sweat going right into your bedding. And to make matters ickier, dust mites actually feed on those shed skin cells.
Allergens - A buildup of sweat and skin cells is reason enough to keep your sheets clean, but keep in mind that a great many of us are allergic to dust mites! Regularly washing your bedding can serve to keep those allergens at bay, and prevent you from waking up with a stuffy nose.
Skin Care - In addition to the dust mites hunting for a free meal, bed sheets can collect all kinds of bacteria, fungi, and other allergens that are totally invisible to the eye. Not to mention, makeup and face cream can accumulate in your bedding pretty quickly, which has been known to cause acne and other skin-related issues.

If you can't wash your sheets very often, it is good to have an extra pair so you always have a fresh set.

Great information. I always wash my sheets every 2 weeks or less. It feels better to get in a fresh bed.

There is nothing better than clean, fresh sheets. I always put on a new set every Monday and sometimes, if I am feeling particularly industrious, I will change them midweek as well. I agree that clean sheets are conducive to better sleep - it just makes for a better feeling sleep environment.

This is something I was very much educated about, so I have always washed mine once a week. I definitely always shower before getting into bed. It's nice to get into a clean bed when you are clean, as well!! Definitely helps one sleep more comfortable! I love the video because I know for sure I'm doing it right and it's not just my OCD!! Thanks!

  • @devotedtothelordjesus9779

I do it about once a week or so. I just like the way it feels and smells when they are clean. I wish I could even do it more often. I am just so busy. Thanks for all the great video!

Nothing like getting into bed with a clean set of sheets. I like to spray Lysol on my sheets during the week to freshen them up in between washes.

Great video ! We love how you bring the message of sleeping on clean sheets helps sleep well ! Please explore and have another video on how natural materials like cotton will further help consumers, compared to plastic/ polyester ( microfiber) which may lead to poor health and we know polluted oceans and environment. Thanks !!

What detergent do you recommend for silk sheets? I just started using A&H's fragrance free detergent for sensitive skin. I'm assuming that's no bueno for my silk sheets right? Also, thanks so much for this video. I love coming here for all things bedding related.

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  Před 4 lety +1

Hey there, thanks for reaching out! Firstly, if you choose to machine wash rather than hand wash, I suggest putting your silk in a machine washable mesh bag or wash it by itself. This will just make sure that your delicate silk bedding won't snag on anything during the wash cycle. Secondly, I'd avoid using fabric softener as it's been known to damage silk or leave a weird residue on the surface fibers. And finally, it's best to use a detergent specifically made for silk (this will usually be advertised on the detergent's label). Popular examples include Woolite and Ecover Delicate Laundry Liquid! Good luck, and feel free to reach out if you have more questions. ~ Sarah

We do wash ours about once a week. In summer, maybe every 4-5 days. I don't let my family sleep on the bed before taking shower. I like to sleep on crisp, clean smelling sheets. ;)

I do laundry once a week and sheets get washed on that one laundry day and cooking day. It would be great to have 2 beds to rotate to with watching films in bed and doing cell phone stuff. Then, change the sheets on different days so one is clean in half a week instead of a whole week.
