I had a '48 shovel/pan from 1976 to 1996, and I did the same conversion of the elongated roller bearings and the "Tamer" in the '80s. Both upgrades worked great with no problems until I sold the bike in 1996. Very pleased!!

It is too bad they stopped working when you sold the bike.

Yeah. Every day I regret selling the ol' '48 Shovelpan and wish I had it back😢. I've done a lot of stupid things in my life, but selling her was the stupidest!!!

I had a loud screeching noise every time I'd engage the clutch after shifting. All I did was the bearing conversion, and it fixed the problem immediately.

Tried all those in the 80s and 90s, best clutch on my shovel is a Barnet. No drag and get neutral or first very easy. Best clutch ever.

So far, this is working well. I do like the barnett clutches though

The instructions state: "2) Discard the hub nut lock washer and Bearing Plate Ring. They are not needed with the *Tamer* application." How'd the clutch work out using 1 less friction disc and 1 less steel?

I threw all that stuff away and put in a Rivera Pro Clutch, never looked back.

The original 'Tammer' was just the plastic disc with 3 C clips.

Interesting, no wonder they improved it. that doesn't seem very rigid.

What I meant to say was the "Tamer" and the bearing conversion were still working great, so the new owner had several years of good service as well.
BTW: never sell a classic bike if you have one. I've regretted it ever since, and I lost contact with the guy I sold it to, so not much chance of buying it back now!!
