I love the music of mission, it really; really captures the energy of this, chaotic display of destruction as you fire your weapons at the boats, you yourself is gradually receiving fire, bullets passing everywhere as your plane get riddled with them. And the best is that the music really get along with the atmosphere like in 2:16, as you’ve lost sight of the Japanese as the plane tries to make another pass, there’s an eerie silence but then boom on 2:25 the silence was replaced with a bang followed by an adrenaline induced soundtrack, making you very excited as once again you are going to fight them
Tbh if you listen closely every thing from the soundtrack sounds like it should be coming from the mission like the gingels you hear sounds like shell chasing being rattled about for the vibration of the engines or falling from the guns or the boat sirens sounding like it the boats making them or the bullets hitting the plane every thing just works or the drums sound like AA fire
Just think about it. A PBY landed meters from you that were floating in the middle water. Your friends were being pulled aboard and as you swimming to it, it began to accelerate for take off because the PBY couldn't carry anymore men. You became hopeless. It's scary just think about it.
Imagine this remastered... And with more missions like d-day, they could do so much instead of shitty futuristic story's. I can't imagine how fun driving around in tanks could be with today's graphics, running over other players and
Hopefully they'll remaster them in order, that means this is next. Plus, they know they'll make a load from this game if they do it again. Maybe don't add more missions, it's a good game as it is.
*Locke pans over to fire on PT boats while on the .50 waist turret. Rosie the Riveter appears in the peripheral* Harrington: Should we abort? Booth: Negative! We can do this! I think that was absolute perfect timing. Either that, or it was meant to be a minor Easter egg from Treyarch.

@@lucapiemonti9767 nothing, they just continue on their merry way but the game acts like you destroyed them. I wish this would change history but nope, the game continues as normal
In my opinion, this level is a lot more intense then "Death From Above" from Modern Warfare. It gets your adrenaline pumping cuz your right in the middle of the fight and there's a chance.of getting shot down unlike being in an AC-130 which hard to take down since it's flying at a high altitude. Not saying it was a bad level, but I enjoyed Black Cats more. And the soundtrack is fucking amazing. Kinda reminds me of that old Xbox game Blood Wake.
Totally, totally, totally agree with you! The best part is that you do a water landing in the third part of the level and have to (admittedly the animation is a little weird) pull sailors out of the water before they drown or are murdered by Japanese PT boat crews or burn to death in the oil slick of their own ships, and fight until you run out of ammo. Death From Above you are also flying as a protector, but it feels like you're basically just keeping the SAS team comfortable and saving them the effort of fighting the swarms of ultranationalist you mow down who also magically lack the air defense they used to shoot down Price's team's helicopter in the first place. The action in Black Cats is maybe a little exaggerated but it delivers some great pathos of being part of a crew, executing a devastating attack on the enemy, and struggling to defend your brothers in arms when they were the most vulnerable.
I think I can confidently say that this is one of the best missions in gaming. Developers should make more vehicle gunner scenes like this, not only in COD but in many war fps franchises.
Yeah, I learned it ehen I played this mission. I was 6 years old and I was into military games. I played Arma when I was 6 also (before WaW) and everyone is just saying 6O'Clock! and I was like WOt. Then my dad bought me this and knew almost all the military things happening.

Gabriel Serrano And my only way to safety is under heavy fire? Yes, I probably would try to fight through the pain and shock to make sure I get out of there alive. I've gotten that far, I ain't letting myself get turned into fishfood, not while I have a say about it. Plus, with all that adrenaline pumping through your body, I think the pain of being shot would be drowned out by the panic and heavy swimming. So I'd imagine one with a strong enough resolve could get on a gun and help stave off those Zeros long enough.
I'd like to see if you'd put your money where your mouth is. Oh wait, you wouldn't. Because you couldn't. Fuck your resolve this isn't a game, if you're physically unfit to do a task like that, your resolve won't get you anywhere.

The best Call of Duty released. The story was excellent, music was awesome and everything else was just "holy shit'. I liked the fact that at 2:37, Booth actually gives a shit about Locke instead of treating him like the usual one man army character and a bunch of other minor details. Whoever wrote the script for the levels deserves a gold star. And let's not forget those fucking drums on the music. Holy hell.

As long as he lives the heart of this army cannot be broken, he makes us all proud."
I can’t stress this enough, You are literally a sitting duck on the vast ocean. And you manage to survive while rescuing survivors, truly bring a tear to my eye.
I’ve rescued about five survivors in this mission. Also I’ve discovered the following dialogue when you rescue the certain amount of people: “Two and they are in pretty bad shape” “Only four” “We pulled in five men on board”
Also there are dialogue for that there is a side mission rescue atleast many sailors if you get 3 or 2 below you fail the side mission side mission count as how good you are or how bad you are your supposed to rescue if you manage to get atleast more rescue above you'll be called a life saver
As great as the entire mission looks, I think the final bit is the best. So much is happening, from the men crying out for help, the music keeping a constant beat that can be barely heard through all the noise, the PT boats firing on you, kamakazi planes making that loud roaring sound before crashing down and exploding, all of it really sells the difficulty and danger people went through across all combat fields in the war
I love how the soundtrack went perfectly with this mission you're riding a fighter plane being ordered around by your fellow soldiers switching guns around and shoot at the ships to rescue people it's just fascinating
The epic shooting, explosion, and the tensity was perfect on this mission. Doing all these crazy things at once was intense and awesome. What a experience.
The PBY Catalina did some major work saving downed pilots during the war alongside reconnaissance work; if it wasn't for the Catalinas the Brits would have never found Bismarck trying to make a run for it to the Atlantic as well. A great if exaggerated homage to them in this level.
Yea, that's true. Though I think exaggeration is also due to them either not wanting to the mission shorter ans used multiple times (the logical reason) or due to time restraints (the Activision reason)
I didn't realize that you play another character in this mission. So altogether it makes two American soldiers and One Russian Soldier. Two on the ground and One above.
@@michaelchristidis8658 It’s one of the random names friendly NPCs get. As far as I know, the crew members of a plane usually don’t go on missions without their plane unless they have to.

This was my favorite Call of Duty mission at the time, and it still is because not only are you put in a different kind of environment and war machine the franchise hasn't done before.. but you also feel the sense of hopelessness once you're surrounded by enemy fighters. Mounted machine guns are always badass, and this mission offers several variants. And then you get to add on rescuing efforts WHILE combating enemy forces. Call of Duty doesn't have enough of that : rescuing.
"Right Gun out of ammo!" "Left Gun out of ammo!" "Locke you're the only one with ammunition left in that gun! Make those shots count!" Many enemy planes comes in at your face. Me: "Shit"

It was actually pretty common for merchant ships on both sides to carry anti-air and anti-surface guns during WWII, for this exact reason. It also helped against submarines, as, back then, subs were way slower underwater than they were on the surface. So if you lob a few shells towards them, they’ll dive and have less chance of getting into a good firing position. The problem is that the subs had an easier time spotting ships than vice-versa, so they could just attack on the surface at night and be invisible to the naked eye, or, in daytime, submerge ahead of the ship and wait for it to get closer. Surface attacks were preferred, at least by the Germans, as surfaced submarines couldn’t be detected by ASDIC (active sonar). The British and the Canadians, and later the Americans, countered this by putting radar on their escort ships in 1941, but AFAIK the Germans continued with surfaced night attacks until mid-1943, when the Allies effectively defeated the U-boats and forced them to adopt the Dutch ‘sniffer’, to allow them to use their diesel engines underwater, and to create the ‘elektroboot’, the first modern diesel-electric submarines. But these weren’t enough/came too late to challenge Allied technological and tactical superiority. I’m not an expert on WWII naval combat, though, so I could be wrong about some of this.
Music starts Locke: WTF , WE'RE AT WAR STOP DANCING !!! Pilot: Dude chill if there's time to fight a war then then there's time to dance . Pilot get's hit Locke : YOU GOT HIT STOP DANCING !! Pilot: Oh this, this is just a scratch . Locke :YOU GOT SHOT IN THE FUCKING HEAD !!
It’s more atmospheric. More immersive. It feels like you’re there. The best graphics in the world can’t immerse you alone. It’s how it’s used along with story and sound that sells it. Black Cats does this perfectly 👌🏼
The second half of this mission is probably the most stressed out I’ve gotten in a vid campaign, trying to save people and kill the enemies simultaneously

Me on my fighter: [BFG DIVISION starts playing] I can do this

All of the music in this game is fucking *AWESOME!!!*
Just think about it. A PBY landed meters from you that were floating in the middle water. Your friends were being pulled aboard and as you swimming to it, it began to accelerate for take off because the PBY couldn't carry anymore men. You became hopeless. It's scary just think about it.
The soldiers and sailors left behind probably swam to a down ship to take refuge
Sometimes they'd go so far as to pile up on the wings. PBY became a glorified boat at that point
Don’t forget the sharks
phantom killer087 You must’ve forgotten about the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis..

*Locke pans over to fire on PT boats while on the .50 waist turret. Rosie the Riveter appears in the peripheral*
Harrington: Should we abort?
Booth: Negative! We can do this!
I think that was absolute perfect timing. Either that, or it was meant to be a minor Easter egg from Treyarch.
Just noticed that lol.
What’s the Easter egg? I’m unfamiliar with The reference
@@ciaranbrowne2 if you look over at the far right during that interaction, there is a sticker thats yellow with a woman in a blue shirt pumping her fist upwards. Thats "rosie the riviter" she was an icon of sorts during the 40's.

Yeah, make me think soldiers in the past have more balls than us today. Respect for them!
Vinsoy_Sauce death from above was more unnerving than intense really
Yeah, this is a real war, “Death from Above” was just a turkey shoot.
@@wikieditspam Yeah.
God the kamikaze sound is so terrifying as it comes down.
I think I can confidently say that this is one of the best missions in gaming. Developers should make more vehicle gunner scenes like this, not only in COD but in many war fps franchises.

If my life would depend on it, of course.

And my only way to safety is under heavy fire? Yes, I probably would try to fight through the pain and shock to make sure I get out of there alive. I've gotten that far, I ain't letting myself get turned into fishfood, not while I have a say about it.
Plus, with all that adrenaline pumping through your body, I think the pain of being shot would be drowned out by the panic and heavy swimming. So I'd imagine one with a strong enough resolve could get on a gun and help stave off those Zeros long enough.
Kid, you don't know what you're talking about.

Holy hell.

I’ve rescued about five survivors in this mission.
Also I’ve discovered the following dialogue when you rescue the certain amount of people:
“Two and they are in pretty bad shape”
“Only four”
“We pulled in five men on board”
Assault King 9000 i pulled in 8.
Also there are dialogue for that there is a side mission rescue atleast many sailors if you get 3 or 2 below you fail the side mission side mission count as how good you are or how bad you are your supposed to rescue if you manage to get atleast more rescue above you'll be called a life saver
I was able to get a full load of survivors that’s if you can destroy the PT boats and those planes shooting the sailors

Fuck this was my favorite CoD mission ever.

Always a little heartbreaking when you see the guys swimming up to the plane right as you need to switch turrets

Call of Duty doesn't have enough of that : rescuing.
the background music mixed with the machine gun fire really makes this mission 2x more badass

Idk about yall but the sound of those kamikazes coming in and hitting that ship sent chills up my spine. Realistic sounds. One of my fav missions.
