- Here's a look (or should I say listen) at Acura and Panasonic's state-of-the-art ELS 5.1 Channel Surround Sound System tuned in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning Producer/Engineer Elliot Scheiner. I adjusted the Dolby ProLogic II surround sound on and off in order to demonstrate the differences in sound quality between the two audio modes. Overall, this system is known as one of the best on the market amongst entry-level luxury vehicles, and even amongst vehicles costing thousands of dollars more. Love that car. For the year that it is it seems very similar to the 2009-2011 models... even though they are different in many ways they still have the same sound with music and when they start up. Sounds so good! the start and the music!!!

The new TLX I don't think they'll be able to do 40 normally I can't go over 26 but sometimes closer to 30
How can you tell if they've popped?
I put mine on 40 everyday you’re chilling their systems aren’t cheap so they can def hold it

dont you need DVD Audio dics in order to take advantage of the actual 5.1 surround. By playing on aux its just simulated 5.1.
Changed the els to an aftermarket. Instant regret. Els is great on these vehicles! All you do to these cars is add a sub and you're golden. Well if you don't mind cutting your trunk space in half lol
My ILX had this SAME system
Funny that you post this as I am actually a headphone reviewer and you could say I've heard and owned....a few...headphones over time lol. I felt the system is not bad, but was missing some of the very high treble and the mids can get pretty harsh on some rock songs. For anything electronic or modern though, it sounds excellent. I also keep Dolby off all the time as it sounds like a gimmick for the most part to me. Supposedly the ELS is much improved in the 4G and the TLX w/tech package as well, but I've never heard those.

I had to take my 08 TL in for a recall and they gave me a TLX to drive during the time. The sound system was awful. With ELS off it sounded bad and with ELS on it sounded bad. It sounded like someone took a pillow and put it in front of a speaker while in the bathroom. Muffled and slightly echo-y. I couldn't wait to get my Clarisse (my TL's name) back.
I have an 05 TL and though the ELS head unit is great, the amp was underpowered and the speakers lacked a lot of detail and depth. Replaced all the mids with CDT CL-BEs, the front tweeters and Center with Pioneer t28s, and the 8" sub with a Pioneer shallow mount lined out to a JL 500x pushing 300 rms to it and 50 sqft of fat mat throughout the car. For about $500, (i did the 10 hrs of labor), it sounds amazing.
Yo how do you activate the els surround on a standard 04 TL? If anyone knows how i would greatly appreciate the feedback
while in ignition on position press and hold radio buttons 1 & 6 then press the power button. els light should turn green indicating it’s active. i’m pretty sure that’s it but i may be mistaken tho
I purchased a 2020 IXL . The website says rear seats surround sound. I checked mine just now after purchasing and I don’t think there are any speakers there. Any idea why? Just got my car off the lot from the dealer

The 07 and 08 comes with the aux port inside the center storage
Awesome video, man. Can you tell me something? I have a 2016 Acura ILX with the ELS System with 10 speakers. I recently found that the system is able to play WAV and WMA files. I had many of them, so downloaded them onto a USB stick and started playing. The sound is awesome … much better than the MP3 files, but when I brought the USB stick in and downloaded many more, they would show downloaded in the file directory, but the car would not play those. I have tried everything from deleting all of them and then downloading them again, but to no avail. It's happening with the WMA files, also. I am not able to listen (or even see those files) on the USB stick. Am I doing something wrong?
How did you get the gauges to show the MPG and etc? Can you do a very quick video of that please

Hey! The 2004 TL is a great car. The 2007 and 2008 has standard aux ports in the center console, so I just used that on my ‘08. The ‘04 to ‘06 didn’t have an aux port or USB port, so you’d have to buy a retrofit kit, but idk which one is best. I’d try to hold out for an ‘07 if you can
The Fender systems in the VW range are a spiritual successor to these. 400 watts, 8 speakers, Panasonic sound processor, and a muddy ass subwoofer. The best sound system I've had was the 600 watt Dynaudio in my CC. It was perfectly balanced

🤣 me too...I have mine on like 30-40 most of the time... and most days like 37-39 🤣 But it does sound better on like 12-13 if you have the bass snd treble all the way up.

I guess the 2004 TL doesn't have the Dolby Prologic feature..

So in guessing you need to use cds to get to the Dolby? Just bought my 2005 tl and scrolling through the stereo functions i don't get that feature.
MisDirected Yes, you need a CD for the Dolby function for a 2005 model.

That trick I believe actually enables or disables a noise cancelling microphone. I think they put that in as part of the facelift in 07 & 08 models
