I was 13 years old when I first heard this song on the radio & it changed my way of thinking & appreciably altered my view of the world. Whether it was for the better or for the worse doesn't matter -what matters is that a song or a work of art has the capacity to DO that.

Malvina is one of the rare few,
i find myself going back to,
Over and over again, as 50+ years go by, and her simple but profound melodies still ring true.
I played her children's album, "Little Boxes and Magic Pennies", for my kids, and many of those tunes are haunting and lovely. She was 50 years ahead of her time in her protest songs about race, pollution, freedom, power, and many other issues. The younger folks are pretty savvy about a lot, but they may miss Malvina's true significance. But her music will speak for itself if anyone cares to really listen to what she was trying to tell us. Thanks for posting this rare live video.

Malvina seems to me to be expressing a truth that haunts us all. So many people get a feeling of intense discomfort when confronted by something a little different to the norm. It extends throughout all walks of life and as an example, I hated school uniforms and would do everything I could to mock them in school. I got into trouble because I tied an extra knot in my tie so I didn't forget something; I didn't carry a handkerchief so the tie was the obvious substitute. Apparently that was wrong. I felt that children in uniform were little more than a homogenous substance to do the will of a misguided authority.

Sorry, but this song is ignorant and insulting. Does she understand what society would be without doctors or lawyers? We can't all just wear mumus and play guitar and sing folk songs. Society needs structure and educated individuals in order for the rest of us to thrive. I hope the doctors that cared for her in her ill health didn't know how poorly she thought of them.
