  • I visited Keele Hall in Staffordshire on a Heritage Open Day in 2022. There has been a house on the site since the 16th century but the current house was built in the mid-1800s to the designs of the architect Anthony Salvin after the original house was demolished. The house and grounds were requisitioned by the army during WW2 and by 1962 the site had become home to Keele University.
I hope you enjoy having a look around. Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video to see where I turn up next :)

Ty for sharing. I realize house owners do what they need to so house stays maintained. I feel they drastically changed this house with all the signs and school/boardroom look, that I personally didn't like how it looks. I also heard you say it was a school at one time but the drastic changes were not necessary as other houses have shown that are schools now.

Thanks for watching Denise. I think your opinion is fair to some extent. It was used as a university building quite extensively in the past so I suppose they had to make certain unavoidable changes during that period. It's definitely been changed more extensively than a lot of country houses I've been to and the modern changes were quite obvious in some areas of the house, as you've said. It was quite interesting to walk around and see just how the more modern bits blended (or didn't) with the other bits that had kept their old character. Once again, thanks for taking the time to watch it, and I appreciate your comments. Adam :)

@@AdamExploresBritain5 months later, I forgot to say I love your videos! I'm so jealous I live in tbe states with hardly any houses such as this. I love watching you tour these grand houses! Thank you

@@longlegs7881 Thanks Denise, that's very kind of you to say! The nice old houses are pretty much all we've got going for us nowadays as pretty much everything else is getting a bit rubbish haha. We do have a nice bit of history over here. I should be going to another old house later this week but I'm not sure if filming will be allowed inside. I'll have to wait and see. All the best, Adam :)

@@StaffordshireTravelAdventures I went on one of the 'Heritage Open Days' events where they open for a couple of days a year. It's in the middle of the University campus now so I'm not sure how limited the access would be now the students are back. I expect you probably could go in if you parked somewhere sensible but it's possible that some rooms may be off limits. I would just email them if I were you as they did seem friendly and there did seem to be locals walking dogs etc around the lake etc. Try emailing the events team at Keele uni as they were the ones who administered the tour. Good luck, and thanks for viewing my video, I appreciate it :)

But, yes, it was free to go in when I went.
