- I have been waiting for months to do this project…
One of the main design elements that I had always planned for this kitchen makeover were marble checkerboard floors. I’ve been obsessed with them for a while now and looking for the perfect place to use them in my apartment.
When the idea of redoing my kitchen first arose, I knew I had found my place.
Unfortunately, I also knew I had a lot of other projects to complete before I could get these new floors down…
But the day has come.
This kitchen has completely transformed!

I am so confused as to why any landlord would have you turn this place back to its original state. You have turned this place into a showplace!
Having owned hundreds of apartments; I understand the landlord. You buy bulk paint, so all the apartments are alike; touch ups and so on. It has to be this way to be efficient for repairs. I still remember a tenant who painted a radiator red in the children’s room🤦🏻♀️
A black and white marble tile flooring will elevate any environment. Classic. Gorgeous transformation.
At 13:57 the gasket around the refrigerator door is now black. I like it, it reads better now. 👍👍

@junebug_tx2305 Exactly why I came here. I want to know. I believe he ordered new ones... He mentioned that they were expensive on the last one, but I think he pulled the trigger on that. So glad too! So much better.

Came here to leave exact comment. It looks so much better! I was gonna suggest a cheap route of just coloring the sides with a black sharpie. They come in 3 different size tips, to surely fit into all those spaces, for under $10. 😜
The floors pull it all together and really help brighten the space!

Answer to your white seal on the fridge: black rub and buff. It absorbs, won’t flake and dries fast.
OMG!!! First to admit I was digging the wood look on the floor BUT…the black and white marble. 100% next level! Yes trust the process. EXCELLENT job on the entire space! Also, chefs kiss on “whatever” you did to make the seal on the fridge black…

Pam here….I suggested black sharpie marker…i wonder what he ended up doing too?? I use sharpies to touch up stuff all the time.

Hi Justin, Have you tried heating the surface with heat tool/blow dryer before pulling up something sticky….it really helps to release the grip of the adhesive without damage. It’s pretty much miraculous 💚💚💚

Beautiful job! I completely agree about the two wooden floors. I HATE when I see wooden floors stop and the change direction. It looks horrible. The only reason I can think of someone doing this is to be cheap and safe on flooring. I dunno. It makes no sense to me and it's so distracting and ugly. Kudos for covering that!

I completely agree with you on the wood floors not matching! wow! You elevated that kitchen by 1000 %. When you move, don't change anything because the next person needs to enjoy your beautiful work!!! you have great tips too, I wish I would have used that painters film! I LOVE your kitchen!!!

I love it!! I painted my kitchen cabinet tops very close to that green and black on the lowers. I wish now I'd done a checkerboard floor because it looks fantastic! That whole kitchen is beautiful!
I love the whiteness of the black on this floor! I agree that just looking at a single tile it looked busy, but now it is perfect!
Excellent! Every design choice! I recently learned that when a checkerboard pattern is turned on its points it’s called a harlequin pattern.

Thanks for using the vinyl marble tiles! I have some samples of the textured ones and was nervous about doing it. But you made it look so easy. I’m going to practice on the little powder room off the kitchen and see how it goes first. Then dive into the kitchen. I priced out having the real thing done professionally in my kitchen. The ceramic tiles that are an exact match for the vinyl were pretty reasonable. But the installation cost was outrageous and was about 10x the cost of the tiles themselves. So I got the vinyl ones, found that they are an exact dupe for the ceramic and figure if I make a mistake, I’m only out a couple hundred dollars than $2500.

What a difference the tiles made. I hated the two toned wood look vinyl floors as well. Great tip on using the film on top of the floors first.
A couple of ideas, perhaps? Brass (or rather 'gold' aluminum) toe kicks and wall corner guards.

Hello. Amazing job!!! I know it's not ideal but have you thought about acrylic paint (which dissolves in water) or a permanent marker for the refrigerator seals? It works in that kind of materials.
Simple question- why didn’t you continue the floor that was running through the rest of the apartment?
If I was ur landlord when u decide to move out, I wouldn't charge u ur last month rent if u leave the unit exactly as you have it

The brown on the sides of his cabinet drawers are bothering me. He should paint at least the first few inches of the drawer sides on the side you see when you walk in. Other than that I really like it.-Susan

I like the reasoning and process!! Don’t take that away! There are so many videos that just show someone doing the project … not showing the reasons for doing what they decided in the end. Please don’t change a thing! This is why I’m here! You show the fails and the wins!!!

Please be more specific\honest about your video titles. You are NOT factually installing a marble tiled floor. You are installing a marble patterned VINYL tile. These are two SEPARATE processes. Anyone viewing this video specifically to see you working with actual marble will have been tricked.
