(This is the finished product).
OH MY GOSH this took forever! We started this animatic back in DECEMBER!!! Of course it got put off due to class and a bunch of other stuff. It was sitting on our computer mostly done for a while now, so we decided to finish it off to give us more time to work on the upcoming 5th Monte Cristo animatic (and like I mentioned on the previous video, we do not know when it will be finished, so don't ask).
This animatic isn't up to the standards that we had wanted, but we'd spent enough time on it already and just wanted it done. So it doesn't have shading or detailed backgrounds, but it still looks good (right??). Hope you enjoy :)

-Why isn't it coloured in?
Because we were testing out the style and because we both like the black and white look, like in old movies.
-Is it going to be finished/animated?
No, we only make animatics because that is what we are interested in, not animations.
-What's the story behind this?? The Princess's are crystal and Sombra's after Twilight???
It's just a random villain revenge plot created to work with the song.

All Hail Jim Cummings he also did the last bit of be prepared cause the voice actor for scar couldn't hit the notes needed,
It's much better than the higher pitched one they gave him in the show that doesn't match his earlier appearances. Early on he sounded super growly and dark. Now suddenly in season 9, his laugh sounds like a high-pitched horse whinny and the higher tone just doesn't fit him at ALL. He sounds like he's whining all the time.

This was the perfect combination of the most underappreciated song with the most underused MLP villain. We don't know that much about Sombra besides him previously ruling over the crystal empire.

That really could have used some demons singing. That would have ruled.
Although, there are hundreds of beetles in the movie, that probably explains the power in the vocals.
The voice actor's voice seems better for King Sombra than the original character.

Yeah, I absolutely hated the voice acting for Sombra when they finally brought him back in the fanale of mlp. I always saw him as more of a mature, quiet, and lone wolf character. In the show they made him out to be a self absorbed idiotic teenager.

Yeah, the only demons in it were the bat-ghost things in the glass jar Rasputin held. Everything else during the song was bugs that would seem more at home in a Don Bluth Movie. Actually, scratch that - due to the main characters being humans, and the only mane animal characters being Bartok and Pooka (who doesn't speak) I forgot he actually made this.

This works really well, and I must say, the style and direction give Sombra more of a personality than what little was seen of him in the show. After all, he was more or less just this trope:
Generic Doomsday Villain - A villain without coherent motivation, goals and plans, defined solely by the threat he poses.
I always figured his motivation was that he wanted his damn kingdom back.
The comics did elaborate on his character, but honestly, they ruin Sombra with Radiant Hope
The series finale will fix that and most likely make another character that's essentially a better Sombra if they do him properly(it's going to take effort to mess him up)

My friends have been quoting the "rise my minions" A lot lately and then i found this....like omg the chills. This made me just fall for Sombra even more. I know it is a finished product but god i wish i knew how to do like animation and would be allowed to collaborate with yall for more Sombra videos.
i am a beginner animationer but im working on a once upon a december animatic currently with cadence as anastasia
And this is why I wish we had more of a chrysalis type story with him. Though Chrysalis is a strong villain I found that she wasn’t to strong without her swarm. She also had multiple episodes so I would wish we got at least maybe one or two more episodes of him before the crystal empires first appearance like a thing where they solve problems without realizing he caused them or something those might show his power or like an episode where he is hinted at even like a mural of power. Or we could have gotten a flashback from that potion that Twilight drank during season 4 that showed his true power. Sombra was intensely underused especially now that we can see how strong he actually is in the final season. This would’ve made an epic final battle and it really suits Sombra. Honestly I love Sombra as a villain

The windigos are more known than the umbrums(plus, they aren't too different in design. Though it feels as if each serves a master, the umbrums for Sombra and the windigos for essentially a better Sombra)
I would love to see this animated, there are so many shots that would have a unique feel to them if they were animated.
Still come back to this every so often. Really makes Sombra seem a lot more threatening then in the show, and bringing back the Wendigos to team up with him was a cool move.

Hey, I needed to come back and comment on this after all these years. This, right here? This was what started me on my path to becoming an animator. Seeing something like this - in what a real production would consider its roughest stages - made me realize at a very young age just how incredible the medium could be, and how it was all done with a real human touch. I remember watching this over and over again when it came out, marveling at the beauty of this fan work and the anticipation it could create. Thank you for piquing my interest and setting me down that path.

Out of curiosity, what is it about animatics that appeals over animation? Would animation be something you would consider if it was less time consuming, or is animatics simply your preference?
LoneManProductions Storyboards are actually my favourite thing to do, animatics are just storyboards with sound and honestly I have no patience for animating, I hate it. It's so tedious and repetitive, I lose interest very quickly when I try it.
Ink Potts Yeah, that makes sense. I try my hand at Source Filmmaker projects every so often and I get the same problems.
This is pretty great though, and there's enough movement that I can fill in the gaps any animation would provide.

Doesn't anyone else see how Sombra looks alot like Ganondorf in some scenes. He's like the Demon king but he has the potential to be worse than what he was with his list of abilities. If the show used his full potential and it wasn't a Pg rating, imagine how dark the show could've been. (Ganon vs Sombra who would win?)
As powerful as sombra is, Ganondorf has the triforce of power. It's been show that it prevents him from dying from anyone other than a bear of courage or wisdom.
