+Coral Roper To bad the visuals didn't suit it in the movie. Seriously, pink bouncing & singing maggots the size of cats!? I know they did the maggots to go with Rasputin being a corpse, but COME ON!! This song deserves visuals worthy of it's awesomeness!! Wouldn't it be amazing(and make more sense) if the curse ghosts were doing the back-up singing!? That would have been sweet!!

    • @cedric13sai
      @cedric13sai Před 8 lety +198

+Rediculous RED They wouldn't need to dance. Tiny, etherial, formless demon ghosts singing in mass as back-up for one of the most operatic villian songs ever? They could perch and float, following Rasputin like some ghostly mist, swaying with the rhythm. They could also shape themselves to form what he was singing about! And some of them are able to combine into bigger forms like when they took out the bridge. Those ones could handle the deep baritone parts. How metal could that set-up be!?

Several years ago Jim Cummings came to Salt Lake FanX. I asked him about this song. He said what a fun song it was and began to sing it right there. It absolutely gave me chills. In the next moment he said something to me in Winnie-the-Pooh's voice. The man is an utter genius. Also he's extremely kind.
****Edited to add that Christopher Lloyd is indeed the very talented voice actor for Rasputin. Jim Cummings was the singing voice for this song only. Isn't it incredible how close he sounds to Christopher Lloyd? If I listen closely I believe I can hear his Scar in this... 💜

The gunshots you hear twice in the song are much more creepy when you know the history
    1:26
“My curse made each of the pay, but one little girl got away!” *BANG*
    This has 2 references
The first is Rasputin’s supposed curse that Russia would soon face ruin.
The second is to when the Soviets executed the Tsar’s family, Anastasia didn’t die immediately, as she has sewed Jewels into her dress so the soldiers didn’t take them, which slightly protected her from the original volley.
    2:08
    The second gun shot
“I’ll see her crawl into place!” *BANG* is a reference to the story that when they went to move the bodies, Anastasia and her brother Alexi were crawling slightly so they shot them again.

    1. Romanovs were kinda corrupt (mostly the ruler Nicholas)

In the dark of the night I was tossing and turning
And the nightmare I had was as bad as can be
It scared me out of my wits!
    A corpse falling to bits!
Then I opened my eyes and the nightmare was me!
I was once the most mystical man in all Russia
When the royals betrayed me they made a mistake
My curse made each of them pay
But one little girl got away
    Little Anya, beware, Rasputin's awake!
In the dark of the night, evil will find her
In the dark of the night, just before dawn
    Revenge will be sweet
    When the curse is complete
In the dark of the night, she'll be gone!
I can feel that my powers are slowly returning
Tie my sash and a dash of cologne for that smell!
As the pieces fall into place
I'll see her crawl into place
Do svidanya, Anya, your grace, farewell!
In the dark of the night, terror will find her (terror's the least I can do!)
In the dark of the night, evil will brew
    Soon she will feel
    That her nightmares are real
In the dark of the night, she'll be through
In the dark of the night, evil will find her (find her)
In the dark of the night, terror comes true (doom her)
    My dear, here's a sign
It's the end of the line
In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night
    Come, my minions
    Rise for your master
    Let your evil shine
    Find her now, yes
    Fly ever faster
In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night

There's a reason the villains always have the best songs. Those minor harmonies give me chills. Not to mention Christopher Lloyd gave his all in this song. This song reminds me so much of Be Prepared, which is probably the best Disney villain song. No wonder this movie always gets confused for Disney; it has a very iconic villain song for Rasputin.

Bolsheviks. Communists. Extremists who are also at the absolute end of their rope, angry, furious and pretty much rabid animals. When people are pushed beyond the brink, mercy stops existing. Rationality, any kind of sane reasoning, it just dies. Sometimes forever. They didn't want the royalty to ever return to power, let alone exist. And so the Romanov main family was completely exterminated.
There are fairly close relatives alive today, there was a wedding with a Romanov a few years back, but the main family is extinct.

In my opinion, what fourth best villain song, love it so much.
It really reveals so much about the character, while the animation is outdated, it's craziness and creepiness is evident.
It's also a tune as well.
Love it. This film is the embodiment of my childhood

I was once the most powerful Brain in all of Lylat! (oo aah oo)
When the Army betrayed me, they made a mistake! (oo aah oo)
My plan made each of them pay, but ONE little Rabbit got away!

      They Be GONE!
      (oo aah oo 2x)
I can feel that my powers is slowly returning. Tie my sash in a dash of Krazoa spirits for that spell. As the pieces fall into place, I'll see them crawl to place! Do-svidaniya, Krystal, your grace, farewell!
In the Dark of the Night, terror will find them!
Terror is the least I can do!
In the Dark of the Night, evil will rule!
Soon, they will feel, that their nightmares are real!
In the Dark of the Night, they'll be through!
      (oo aah oo)
In the Dark of the Night, evil will find them! (find them)
In the Dark of the Night, terror will doom! (doom them)
My friend, it's a sign, it's the end of the line!
In the Dark of the Night, In the Dark of the Night...
Come my army rise for your master. Let your evil shine! Fight them now, yes, fly ever faster!
In the Dark of the Night, in the Dark of the Night, in the Dark of the Night...
      They will DIE!!!

      In the darkest nightmare hour
Where not moon or sun has risen
I‘ll take Zelda with my power
I shall keep her in my prison
Okay, now we can go back to pretending that this game doesn’t exist.

      Jonathan Harvey
Yeah. And he cried bloody murder before starting his song. And then there's the way he died.
You know, I get the vibe that Don Bluth wanted to put in all the hardcore stuff he had throughout the movie into the song but the producers wouldn't let him.

One thing I can say about this movie is that I loved it so much that when I found out the Romanovs were a real family I wanted to learn about them. I made me interested in the real history around their deaths. Even as a kid I knew the movie wasn't accurate. I mean a guy comes back from the dead and there is a talking bat.
People who get angry at the movie for it's inaccuracies baffle me.
i feel the same with Pocahontas . I knew it wasn't a true story, though it was years later I found out she was a real person. Again it made me want to learn her true story.

Even though I know and can tell it is Jim Cummings singing he still does an amazing job with the song and it is a great villain song!! Also he did a great job finishing the villain song “Be Prepared” for Jeremy Irons. The reason he had to take over for him is because Jeremy threw out his voice when he did the part “You won’t GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!!” So the rest of the song is Jim Cummings just a fun fact I wanted to share!!

Best of all I love the soundtrack. It is THE best soundtrack for a princess movie I’ve ever heard. Beautiful songs from the protagonist AND the antagonist.
