  • Shielding police and other officials from liability for their misconduct is bad law and policy. “Qualified immunity” is a “judicially confected, morally bankrupt, power-aggrandizing legal doctrine that the Supreme Court had no business inventing in the first place.”

ICE’s detention numbers remain consistent over the past few weeks with the latest numbers released today showing that 36,571 immigrants were held in detention as of May 19, 2024. According to ICE’s data, 27 percent of immigrants in detention have criminal convictions; another 12 percent have pending criminal charges and the majority, 62 percent, only show immigration violations on record.
The latest data now show that as of May 18, 2024, 2,975 immigrants-up from 2,153 about two weeks ago-are now monitored using VeriWatch, a wrist-worn GPS monitor. ICE’s growing use of the VeriWatch is reflected across the country, with the three largest cohorts of immigrants on VeriWatch concentrated in ICE’s regions headquartered in Harlingen (488), Seattle (365), and Los Angeles (362). One year ago, in May 2023 when ICE first released data on its pilot program to test the technology in Denver, just 50 immigrants were on this technology.

Preliminary FBI data shows drop in violent crime for 2024 so far
The data shows steep drops in every category of violent crime in every region in the first three months of 2024 compared to a year earlier, continuing a downward trend since a coronavirus pandemic surge.
Murder and rape were both down 26 percent, robbery was down 18 percent, and aggravated assault fell by 13 percent in the first quarter. Overall violent crime was down 15 percent, reflecting drops in every region, from 10 percent in the West to 19 percent in the Midwest, according to the FBI data released Monday.

VeriWatch seems to be hedging its bets. Thanks for the tip. Interesting.

I’m surprised that they aren’t putting those glass-cased chips into them.

Immunity and the restrictions placed on the range of immunity is outlined in the Constitution. Therefore the courts have exceeded their authority by introducing qualified immunity, in my opinion. Government claims of the 11th adding additional immunity is BS. The 11A just established jurisdiction, no more. The 11A also failed to include state and those living in a state, leaving such cases under the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. I feel this was intended the rights of citizens of a state, to be fast tracked to the Supreme Court., in order to preserve the David and the giant type of battle. Prior to the states wrongful application of this, there had to be a complaint filed by a person, not the state, nor the people of a state.
