  • In Part 1 of this video, I ride my bicycle from Downtown Phoenix toward Roosevelt Row, with a grab bag of adventures planned. After riding by Margaret Hance Park, I find a protected bike lane on North 3rd Avenue. Later, I turn toward the Willo Historic Neighborhood to observe how some houses and landscaping look in Phoenix.
I then make my way to Encanto Park, which is also home to the Enchanted Island Amusement Park. I finish Part 1 of this journey by riding to and exploring the Melrose District, which is home to several antique shops, dining options, and murals amidst an LGBTQ presence. Filmed on March 5, 2024. Part 2 of this video continues here: • Exploring Phoenix - Gr...

Scenic relaxing beautiful, thank you for that Poko!
I had no idea, as of 2020, Phoenix was the fifth
most populous city in the United States ...

Oooo, you're right, I just looked it up on Wikipedia. I knew New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago would be the Top 3, but I didn't have a good guess as to what would be right up there with it. I wonder how it compares if you did things like compared Northeast Ohio (as opposed to just Cleveland) to Phoenix.

The house on Willetta at 12:27 was on my paper route and I took care of their yard in summer. That was back in 1962. My paper rout extended to Central Avenue. One Sunday with a heavy load of papers a Phoenix Police car cane and drifter towards me. I figured no problem after all it was police. Next thing he hit me head on, my newspapers all over, my bike mangled. I was uninjured. But watched the police car continue north and about 2 blocks away hit a palm tree that stopped him. Called the police from a pay phone. They came and covered up the event, got me new newspapers and had a squad car take me through my route. The cop was drunk as could be. I was given %50 to repair my bike and forced to sign papers and told if I ever said anything about this I would be celebrating all my birthdays to 18 in the Juvenile prison at Fort Grant. Some justice in the US.

At 15:05, that Pawn Shop had been a Jewish Synagogue, called Temple Beth Israel. Several off my Jewish friends from Kenilworth Grammar and West
    High attended there.
I was last in Phoenix in 2015, Scary place among my travels. Especially on foot. The friend I had there on 15th Avenue died of Covid defying vaccination and mask wearing.
As for myself I was a US Army Colonel and Physicist. I resigned my commission in 1995 and left the US for good in 2013. Panama, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, places I have lived. In Costa Rica I rent a 7 bedroom/5 bath house with 4 car garage on 23 acres for $163 a month. I travel 6 months a year to other countries and in the last 11 years been to 75.
I will never return to the US. 2 years ago they gave me the nonsense I would be denied entry if I did not produce a Government Photo ID with a US Mailing Address. Looks like my US Passport good in all other countries is not good enough in my own. And no there is no mailing addresses in US Passports.

So much travel and culture 😱 You must have endless stories. As far as Phoenix on foot goes, the areas that I filmed videos in seemed safe, but while on the train & having researched ahead of time, there were definitely a lot of sketchy areas that I steered clear of.
