The Affiliation of Major Fly Fishing Clubs has been established for well over thirty years. This is one of the only competitions that I still fish outwith the Grayling comps. I still really enjoy the banter of team fishing and the practice days always provide a good laugh. There is also an edge to fishing in a competition which I still enjoy on occasion.
In this video the Soldier Palmers were sitting atop the table and we were hoping to consolidate a great start to the league this year. Grafham had been fishing very hard and we all expected a tough couple of days fishing. How wrong could we have been!

Luck can play a part. However the more you practice. The harder you work with techniques. Reading the conditions on the water. Even a slight change in light conditions. Wind direction/speed temp can change not only the available food sources. The fish could change totally in what and where they are feeding. From the upper few feet to 6, 12, feet even deeper in a few mins. So easy to misread or not pick up the changes, by becoming fixated on what was working earlier. Be alert aware and flexable.
