  • “If Russia loses the war, then whoever replaces Putin is not going to be able to hold onto 11 timezones of nation. Manchuria was only stolen from China 200 years ago. They want Manchuria back and they’re going to get it.”
Diane Francis discusses the fragile relationship between Russia and China, and how "China will pounce" when Putin is replaced.

At this point in time, it would be easier for China to get back the parts of Manchuria Russia took in the not too distant past rather than try to get Taiwan back into the fold.

Except that nobody in Russian Manchuria wants to be anything but part of the Russian Federation. In Taiwan however, a majority thinks of themselves as ethnic Chinese and resistance would likely be weaker.

@@user-cw4jd8xt2u I don't know all that much about Chinese and Taiwanese identity, but I was under the impression that Taiwanese was seen more as a subset of Chinese than something entirely separate. Up until the early 2000s that seems to have been the dominant viewpoint and I didn't know that had changed. I also wonder how that could even change so dramatically.
Anyhow, I am still confident that the people in the Russian Far-East view themselves as much less Chinese than the Taiwanese.

@@toolbaggers- I don't think it is purely political at all. TikTok has had a profoundly negative impact on certain aspect of American society. If you are a car owner in American, I'll give you one example. Someone threw up a video on how to steal a catalytic converter from a Kia/Hyundai. Average replacement cost of a catalytic converter parts and labor is more than $1,000. As a result of that video the insurance rate of every car owner increased and the theft of catalytic converters became wide spread. In some cases insurance companies even refuse to insure certain vehicles. That is only one example. There are many more. It has become an industry of pranks for which some people are paid money.
