WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT HOW PRETTY THE MUM IS
!!
ikrrr she’s gorgeous and looks so young
That’s all asians. We age well
Was literally about to comment on how pretty she is xD.
Who care if she is pretty or not lol
As you can see... Andrew is a professional translator
indeed
it's kind of upsetting to see ashley responding / defending herself and her siblings in the comments about not knowing enough korean w/ other people saying "this is embarrassing i know MORE korean and i'm not even korean" like... good for you? i feel so sorry for the alexanders bc of these comments as a korean american who isn't 100% fluent. i'm happy they're embracing their heritage and culture
I agree, I think we have to remember, everyone’s situations are so different. As a 7 year old, i immigrated to the US with my parents in 2005. My brother was only 5. In the US, my mom was so shocked at seeing Korean American kids who couldn’t speak any Korean at all and was determined that my brother and I will speak, read and write in Korean. But we were also privileged that our mom and dad was able to be with us after school, and that we strictly only spoke Korean at home with my mom instructing us to write in Korean every day. It’s been 10+ years of living in the states, my mom sees the struggles of immigrants. Most Korean immigrants have to work 24/7 just to pay bills and put food on the table leaving the kids to grow up in America by themselves. A lot of people have recently been getting into Korean entertainment so they can brag that they have learned some Korean from there, but I hope they keep from judging others because our experiences and stories are all so different
Im half Chinese and I cant speak Chinese AT ALL. My father never taught us and so thats how we grew up. Nothing's wrong with that.
Plus the video wouldn’t be as entertaining if they really did know Korean fluently in my opinion. This is just so much more relatable
Also being Korean isn’t just about understanding the language. If it was, then literally any Kdrama watcher could be Korean. There are lived experiences that you can’t get from watching shows. Like having a separate fridge for kimchi or looking forward to saebae bc even as a kid you knew that meant money. Your grandma cleaning your ears for you. Waiting outside when houseguests leave until they get in the car and drive away. Your parents not letting you sleep with the fan on. 👀 no one is allowed to take other people’s Koreanness from them just bc of their fluency or lack of fluency. I used to do that bc I was a snob and thought I was all that bc my parents made me fluent, and that’s some bs that we don’t need to see in 2021! Also, Ashley is using her platform and voice to raise awareness about hate and racism towards the AAPI community, and I think that makes her 한국인 as hell.
Exactly! Many children who are born in western countries from immigrant parents end up monolingual or are receptive bilinguals. Do these people want a cookie or an award for being able to speak Korean or something? 🙄
It’s so funny how everyone does that same awkward smile when they don’t understand what others are saying😂😂 having lived in 4 different countries I get that feeling A LOT. Love you guys x

@@mamaalexander5 It was the exact same for my mom - it‘s not easy at all! We can still tell that your children appreciate their second cultural identity though which is beautiful☺️💖

Korean culture is not her culture. Her Korean mom decided to marry white so she's white American culture, not Korean.
@@merrittpalmer4349 she’s still korean lmao?? just because she’s only half korean doesn’t mean it’s not part of her culture
@@danielleandreini6612 Lol her dad is white, so she was brought up in a white household. Her mom rejected her Korean identity the moment she married a white guy and chose to assimilate to white American culture. She's only half-Korean by blood. They're just trying to capitalize on all the Korean culture hype now that it's "cool and acceptable."
@@merrittpalmer4349 do you know her family personally? how do you know that her mother “rejected” her entire culture? just because she married a white guy doesn’t mean she’s rejecting her culture. sure they’re not as connected to their korean culture due to living in america but that doesn’t equate to any of the things you seem to be projecting onto them. calm down it’s not that deep lol.

I CACKLED AT “tHosE aRe gReeN oNioNs?”
I'm more impressed how good Moms Korean is considering she left Korea when she was 12! Being a Korean fluent in English I enjoyed this way more than expected lol
I left my country of birth at 12, too, and never lost my fluency. But it takes commitment from the parents, and, on the children's part, a general love for and interest in languages (and a good ear), lots of reading, and spending time with other speakers of the language in question. Without at least some of those factors, it can be very difficult indeed.

I strongly support you guys learning korean! ❤️ It depends if you really want to learn. It also helps if you spend a lot of time with native speakers.
