The one trick I learned on the model:cycles for doing long drones is to just put a trig on the first note and set the probability to just trig it once (the first time the sequence plays). That way when it comes back around it won't re-trig causing any clicks or skips.

I set it to legato and increase the length to overlap, this way I can mute/unmute and do other live stuff that wouldn't be possible with a trigger of once.

I dunno if anyone's ever played the game Proteus on steam, but this really starts evolving into something that sounds like the Proteus soundtrack around 53 minutes. Proteus is just an artful adventure experience game, it's very short and you just explore an 8bit styled 3d island full of lots of trees and creatures that all have little synth noises that add to the landscape soundtrack, everything has its own swelling audio as you explore why you're there in the first place. It's a great ambient piece.

This hits right up my alley !
When the Cycles came out I bought it and fell in love with the immediacy of creation but also got a bit tired of its limitations so I got a Digitone keys but then, I found its approach a bit too « scientific » for my needs. Then came the Syntakt but I couldn’t justify buying it since I already had a Cycles. Well, after a while I decided to get it today. Can’t wait to do ambient on it. I’m a little scared about the clicks and pops, I hope my unit will be fine. I know this synth has a ton of DA/AD converters so it can get pretty hot.

This is why use a sampler to make Ambient. All those LFOs are basically turning your patterns into off-the-grid sequences that come in and out at different times, i.e. phasing. Sampling allows for different lengths, meters, and different starting times - all with individual motion and fx. For example, as good as the mc 707 sequencer and elektron A4 are, I don't use them to create entire songs. Ill either create a single sequence and sample that or use them as a sound designing tool to sample. I just find ambient done with samplers is superior on many levels.

great vid, i love just having 1 or 2 assorted Elektrons... Or 1 paired with another decent groove box like the Lxr02 OR EMX1. & explore the features, pallets of sounds & various spins of synthesis/pattern sequences etc each groove box is unique for producing. had to watch this cause ive just got my syntakt & heat mk2 out as my coffee table boxes in the TV/living room, polishing up a chill out wip with mine too... would be great to have a demo up, exploring the hugely oversighted strength, quality & power the syntakt is as a int/ext multi fx unit. its kind of a cut down Heat+FX... But it has the fx tracks step sequencer that Heat+FX really should have featured too imo? i love all the fx track sequencers & make good use of them in their devices that do have that included as a feature.

    Hi Matthew,
just subscribed to your channel. Like your Elektron content very much!
Myself completed the Elektron Trinity (Digitakt, Digitone, Syntakt) just a few weeks ago and maybe add an Octatrack next Christmas :-)
Doing 'fake' arpeggiators myself quite a lot I want to give back a little bit here. Here is what I really like to do to spice up may arpeggios:
I use just one Bar of 16 Steps for the apreggiator using the 8 odd steps 1,3,5,... for the arpeggiator notes. To spice up the apreggio I fill the even steps 2,4,6,... with Lock Triggers, micro timed all to the left matching the odd triggers. All of those Lock Triggers with have a parameter lock raising the synth tune by one octave and a low probability around 6%. Now your arpeggio is spiced up by throwing in notes one octave higher now and then (depending on your probability setting) which makes makes the arpeggio sound like two voices. Is additional salt, I often add also some delay to those Lock Triggers to make the notes playing one octave higher to shine through.
Hope this is a useful tip/trick for a few of yours.
    Regards
    Dieter
