I agree with Selhurst Park - This Wicksteed old roundabout would be worth a lot renovated or even put somewhere safe for future generations to enjoy!

I hope someone considers saving the roundabout. It would be such a shame in a tangled mess at the bottom of the cliff.
This area brings back so many memories. I am from Southsea Portsmouth, and use to come to the IOW every year when i was a child. I am now 30, and I cannot wait to come back a veiw the past with ruins. Its such a shame its all dissapearing.
Me and my family love coming to southsea to go in the mini theme park and sit on the beach watching the hovercraft go in and out. We came down to southsea today and got the hovercraft over to the isle of White. It was my 1st time on the hovercraft but my 4th on the island.
I don't remeber the second arched fort. Must have been there as a kid. Great persistance
:))).....the shadow brings a certain extra spookiness to the whole thing! I'm sure the real you is just as dashing as your infamous shadow!!....it gets everywhere...there are other vids with 'him' on them!!....me and my shadow eh?? Cue for a song..... (walking down the avenue????).......
How many times have I been on that roundabout when 'well lubricated' at the Coach House pub LOL
I remember going to Blcakgang as a child.
We went to the Isle of Wight every year from about 1990 until 1995.
My favourite bits were the Military Vehicle & the Roller when I was a small boy.
Last I ever saw of them was 1997 when on the island with the School I was at.
Been to Blackgang a couple of times of the past few years & it's alright, but lacks that feeling that you got as a small child.
Great work, probably wont survive another winter so its memory is well preserved, on such a gorgeous day!
this is actually relitively stable . not anythung to report over the winter . spoke to a bloke who lives just behind merlins bistro and reckons hes got 20 to 25 years left .
Nice film, seems to be a lot more land movement since your last visit, and how did i know you were going to spin the roundabout again, you should have hopped on board.
1 year on from my last comments on your 2011 film....& hey, I found it! Have been back twice since. Love your mysterious shadow on this one IOWA.......
glad you like the shadow , the shadow is marginally better looking than myself . it was a very sunny day and the shadow was unavoidable .

We all know things have to change but a lot of places are very similar to our childhood days but Blackgang Chine just changes so fast and where we enjoyed our childhoods there it hurts all the more - like losing someone close in the family to you.
I gather they could not save the military vehicles in time from slipping over?
the military vehicles were resited. then sold off I believe. somebody years ago got in contact with me and they own the old steam roller. it's still on the island.
What's the white pole thing sticking out of the ground and that weird tree next to mission control you looked up at? Is there something significant about it?x

Jeeks - this is much better than the other video I saw - you must have been dicing with death on this visit? I did have a very quick look around here once BEFORE it was fenced off but there was never any roundabout there as far as I recall. I never saw half this stuff. No idea when it would have been but it wasn't that long back, for sure. I'm now left wondering what will show up on a Google aerial image. I must check it out.
the roundabout was removed by blackgang chine as they own the land a couple of years ago. it is being restored the park manager told me in 2018.
Ok - I wonder where it will end up? One things' for sure it won't be placed back where it was - maybe somewhere else inside the park.
BTW - early today I became ecstatic when one of your clips started with some scenes of 'The Ship Ashore' in a 1984 (I think) video. Sadly - comments were switched it so I couldn't express my gratitude.
Now - where's the Sandrock? All I have previously found is one picture. I must try and find some history of that pub as well as this Blackgang Hotel. All very interesting stuff IMO.
I remember the steam roller n military stuff as a kid but gonna sound stupid ere but wot woz mission control building.? I can't remember it. Wot in it? I remember the pirate ship where roundabout area n I think crooked house near there. Does any1 remember the fairy castle, the wishing well n the bird cages that were 2gether ? Woz that near this area? I remember that going. Also wot happened 2 the stocks? Is the chimney pots still there n the priest fellow. Can't b much of the 70s stuff still left? I watch a vid of the old dinosaur graveyard. I wish the owners instead of chucking em wud sell em. I'm sure us big kids of memories of black gang wud pay n so money cud go back in2 the theme park. I know I wud lol

I know what you mean!! I'm sure the vehicles were moved and next to them was the simulator out to sea look left and up you saw the coloured flashing lights on the view stand have a feeling they were in the spot the toy boats are now by the pirate ships as the old pirate ship was further forward

The tourist infrastructure and access, created problematic water flows that increased erosion, instability and land collapse! Long ago, there was access to the beach - but the actual Chine is long gone! It was beautiful at night with the paths winding down the Chine, lit up with coloured lights at night!! Inappropriate development has continued the demise, of what was once one of the Island's 'jewels'!!
they have wated so much nice beach they need to get acsess down to the beach
