Eating like a local in the capital city of Malaysia is an experience that is going to take you through not just one, but actually three entirely different cuisines.
In my opinion, the most beautiful thing about Kuala Lumpur simply has to be how you can journey through all three of these food cultures in a single afternoon!
You need a healthy appetite, and a clear schedule (a couple of friends makes it EVEN better still!) - allow me to reinforce those inclinations you are having in your head right now - Yes!! - a few days of eating in Kuala Lumpur is guaranteed to be time well spent :) and I wish you a wonderful and memorable time indeed!
Thanks as always for hanging out with both Li and myself, as we meet lovely and hand-working people in as many situations as possible (in as many places as possible!) - today is no different. Hi Joel and Li, always nice to watch your adventures! Nothing beats Indian food, especially South Indian food. I remember when I was in India my friend would make Dosa by soaking and fermenting rice and urid daal then grinding it up to make the batter. Perhaps the urid daal is the legume component you are tasting? You really are are true spice connoisseur… I’m impressed and I think you got them all! Great video and have a great time in Malaysia ☺️☺️

Dosa as Idly usually use a batter of fermented ground rice and dhal with a little fenugreek seeds, hence the fluffy texture and slightly sour flavour

Joel you and Li always make me smile 😊 I came back to Baltimore to visit my new grand puppy and babysit him (James) and my son and I had a delicious Greek meal in a very small family owned restaurant that has been in their family for 3 generations. It was so wonderful how much they cared about their food and our experience in their restaurant. It was like eating at their home for sure

Dhosa batter is pretty much the same as idli batter. There can be variants, but 3x short grain rice and 1x split and skinless urid dhal are soaked separately (sometimes the rice is then half boiled) before being preferably wet ground (more often power blended) then as a thick cream, spontaneously fermented for at least 8 hours, but usually longer. Variations involve a gram mix, or some spicing of the batter. Some hiss’s are soft like yours, and others crispy and made into a large funnel

Most Malaysians of Indian descent are from Tamilnadu & Kerala so they've always spoke the language. and ever since they came to Malaya, the government let them keep their language & culture going. there are also Tamil government primary schools. And Chinese schools also.

your really need to try malay foods, and other fusion food here in malaysia. here some recommendation: Nasi Lemak (official national dish) at Nasi Lemak Wanjo Kampung Baru KL, Nasi Kandar, Nasi Ganja Ipoh (Perak state), Nasi Ambeng, Nasi Kerabu (Kelantan), Ayam Percik, Mee Goreng Mamak, Rendang, Asam Laksa (Penang state), Laksa Johor (Johor state), Laksa Sarawak (Sarawak state), durian, some street food like Ramly Burger or Roti John, and so on... In some cases, street stalls serve much tastier, authentic and more satisfying food than five star hotels food. Malaysia also famous for fusion food, combination of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Thai, Western, and so on. my personal fav restaurant is Mamak Restaurant (Indian Muslim), or any malay restaurant/ stall...

the Indian food in Malaysia are mostly south Indian as we have a huge number of Tamil population. I've been to India and to be honest, there's not much different. I thought the Indian food I had in central India tasted the same as we have back home. Probably Indian vendors in Malaysia got the same spices from India.

masa kecik saya makan roti canai dengan susu sejat. sedap je hahaha. sekarang pun kadang2 teringin. and roti pisang pun sedap, cicah kari or not.
hey buddy..next time when you eat these kind of indian rice, whether its briyani or white rice ask them for mixed curry to go on top of the rice..trust me on this

Hope you're having a great time in KL! Love your videos but try to avoid using hand sanitizers if using your hands as the chemicals in the sanitizers are not to be consumed and should be for external usage only. Not to substitute sanitising your hands with some good old water and soap. If there are none, best to opt for some cutleries to eat your foods. Just my 2 cents and enjoy the rest of your time here!
