can we all just take a minute to appreciate that there is an ACTUAL scientific paper on the speed of a god damn evangelion? nerdiness to the max. nerdiness to the max
@@phodon129 i was thinking "kyle you gotta say more than 'here is paper about large thing speed' Evas are robots you are making it sound lower quality than a quality paper about that should be" or something along those lines
@@phodon129 I was disappointed that they didn't say the reason why they chose that paper was because EVAs, besides being large, are actually living things.
@@basketcase1235 The problem as I see it is that the EVA's are supposedly of extraterrestrial origin and as so we can't use terrestrial animals as models for muscle strength, speed of the signals in the nerves, the chemical processes and the energy they can maintain. It's just to much handwavium going on. Nerve is using the EVA's as their physiology makes them superior to any terrestrial animal or mechanical alternative, so that means we can't make any assumptions regarding their makeup. So basing any theory on the abilities of Kong on a paper written about the EVA's are not a good idea, at least not as I understand it.
Of course that doesn't change things like inertia, friction and compressive and tensile strength of materials that limits the amount of energy it would be possible for a giant monkey or nuclear powered lizard to put down in order to accelerate. Lets just say that if GZ or K were to rush at each other with the speed they are usually attributed in their movies then every footstep would tear big craters and shuffle many tons of earth all over the place. And that is if we ignore the physiological limitations that at least Kong should be slave to. If I remember correctly the load on the legs increases four times if the body is scaled up to twice the height. So instead of being a proportional supersized gorilla Kong would have to have legs that were much much thicker to even be able to stand up. Same with the muscles in the legs and body. Kong would have to be as wide as he's tall, and the total weight would go up by a huge factor. which again put's more stress on the ground and means even more earth being shoved around for each step.
So how large is Kong? Or perhaps we should look at how tall Kong is in relation to a Gorilla male. I haven't really looked at this before and don't feel like looking up any other theories on the net right now so lets guestimate a little. I had to do some searching though as I had no idea just how tall a gorilla male stands. According to Google the average is about 1.7 meters tall, so lets use that number. Now if we look at Kong from the Skull Island movie I'd say that Kong is pretty freaking huge, easily more than ten times the height of a typical gorilla male. There is some pretty awesome megafauna on Skull Island such as the buffalo. The largest megafauna, relative to it's ordinary size, is probably the preying mantis that the soldiers tangled with. And that's another case where they got the physics wrong. Those legs wouldn't be the size of the bamboo that they looked like. They would be more the size of culverts, and the idea of hacking through them with a machete is just ridiculous. Now back to Kong. While the mantis was probably larger relatively, Kong is still the most massive megafauna we get to see. I would actually estimate that he is closer to fifteen times the size of an ordinary gorilla male so I'm going to go with that. Why? Because I feel like it, and it's not like there are a real Kong to measure...
So a double size Kong will have to have four times the leg sectional area to hold up the body. A four times Kong will need sixteen times the sectional area. Eight times and we're looking at sixty four times and go all the way to sixteen times size Kong and the legs would have to have a sectional area that's two hundred and fifty six times (256 times) as large as a normal sized gorilla. And yes I went all the way to a x16 sized Kong just to keep the math simple. Because now that's how big I say he is / was...
Now if that sounds like he would no longer have the same proportions as a gorilla then I'm with you there...
But as all this is about a movie I'll just make some popcorn and enjoy watching two CGI critters whack the tar out of each other while flattening some city or another with reckless abandon. And if none of them happens to adhere to any laws of physics I will just ignore that and cheer for the monkey as it smashes another ship over the head of Gojira...
@@astrophobia6049 You may be right. It's a long time since I watched the anime and to be honest it wasn't very clear about it all. Still the AT field thing is handwavium of the highest degree so trying to calculate movement speed, weight and load on the legs and all those things are pretty much doomed to fail. What we can calculate are things like how fast could humanoid X move if it was using a running motion, meaning there will be times when neither foot is touching the ground, IF we ignore physical limitations on the amount of power available, or how much load the skeleton can take before breaking. And we have to ignore friction of the feet, compressive and tensile strength of the ground and so on.
We can also turn it around and use any numbers that has been mentioned in the series and try to calculate how much power is needed to achieve that performance.
The more you think about it the more complicated it gets. But while we can do some guestimation and calculate some likely numbers for giant humanoids given the earth normal values, as soon as the AT field is added it all goes out the window.
@@blahorgaslisk7763 One thing people tend to forget with giant bipedal things, is how much movement is dependent on our speed of falling. If you put a human on the moon, they physically cannot run.
The same problem exists for really giant bi-pedal beings. When you increase something's dimensions by a factor of 4, it takes it twice as long to fall the same body proportions. Increase something's dimensions by a factor of 36, and it falls at the same body proportion rate as a human on the moon. The result is that it becomes physically impossible to run bipedally, even if it was made out of infinitely strong materials and had infinite power.
That first animated mash-up with the Kong and Godzilla compared to a blue whale made me want to see Kong slap Godzilla with it like a salmon. I feel guilty for that.

*Intelligence* Kong Intelligence is already an advantage to beat godzilla, since he is the smartest titan and learns from his mistakes when fighting a titan and also knows and learns where a titan weak spot is and he is so smart that he bows down to know one.
*Strength* Kong strength is not as strong as godzilla's because he doesn't have radiation but from movies he is quite strong , he may even have the strength to lift up godzilla.

@@polarknight5376 he means his mass is smaller not his height
@@polarknight5376 mass meaning weight and such
@@Shadow-fb2ec mmh, from what I remember Kong wasn't that much less weighty than Goji. Yeah Goji's waistline is bigger, but that's all fat or whatever the titan equivalent is. Lol
But seriously Kong had been around since the 80s maybe even earlier than that, building up his muscle which is much denser than fat. So yeah, he wasn't lifting weights or anything but he was physically active fighting the other monsters on the island, much more so than Godzilla who was sleeping the whole time. The only advantages Goji had over Kong was water maneuverability and more experience in combat. The King Kong in the new movies isn't the same King Kong Goji fought millions of years ago; this is an ancestor born on Skull Island without any experience fighting other titans that are as intelligent as him. I believe what the movie/movie writers were trying to show was that Kong and Goji were on equal footing physically, but Goji was more experienced in fighting.
*EDIT* the big fuck off laser is technically an advantage, but I'm not counting it because Kong got an axe to counter it before the real big fight.
Another point I want to make, Godzilla *was* 100% rightfully the "King of Monsters" before humans spread out and started developing technologies to rival even him, but now in the modern era humans are a whole new faction Godzilla needs to consider. Without being able to easily communicate with the humans Goji would scare them and that's exactly what set the whole fiasco in the movie in motion. Kong CAN communicate with the humans, and looking fairly human-like himself with even human facial expressions, would definitely help him gain their trust more easily than a lizard. However, Kong does not have the loyalty of the rest of the titans, nor the fighting ability to defend humanity or the titans from external, or internal, threats; Godzilla does. I haven't looked at anything regarding the next movie, if there even is going to be one, but the best thing that the writers could make happen is that Godzilla remain King, and Kong would be an ambassador of sorts between Goji with his titans and the humans. This is assuming Kong can speak the energy language the titans speak that was revealed in "King of Monsters" but Kong and Goji seemed to be able to understand each other well enough.

Hey kyle, i have a science question, So the way antman grows is by extending the distance between atoms, if hypothetically antman were to grow to where the distance between the atoms is like 7918 miles would he fall through the earth? and at some point would he become invisible due to light not having enough surface area to bounce off of?
He would not fall through the earth, but im not sure about the second question.
Wether or not something is visible depends mainly on wavelenghts, however Wether or not something is visible *to us* depends mainly on how big an object is, so I guess it'd be possible for his attoms to spread so far apart you couldnât actually see them any more that you can see regular attoms.
Then again, im not sure if he'd be invisible for some other reason before that happened.

5:40 Kyle this implies kong relies on vegetation to survive. While it's fair to assume, in the film Kong: Skull Island we only ever see Kong eating once, and what it was was a massive octopus/squid creature that just happened to live in a pond. The island kong lived one was home to many super-mega fauna and considering meat is much more energy sustainable than plants, that's probably how he lived.
However i have no idea how they fed that thing after taking it away from its island. Unlike the MUTOS or Godzilla, Kong doesn't seem to use nuclear energy as a long term energy source so the real reason he'd lose in GVK is because the people carrying him didn't think to pack him a lunch box

Iâd honestly love to see a video explaining how radiation can be used as food source, since the beginning of the Godzilla series. Thatâs what is told use that these massive animals feed on. It much or in depth of coarse.
its doable. Some fungi have been using mealocytes to absorb radiation on the reactor wall of Cherno.
@@Megaman915
Fungi you say? Now thatâs pretty neat
@@carmelosaurus7480 With the fungus stuff going on in Chernobyl, it would stand to reason that life in general CAN metabolise that kind of radiation. And judging by our current models of how shit worked in the past, it would also make sense that some bacterium MIGHT be able to nom up the part of the fungus that enables the production of energy from radiation, and then just evolves from there. (That's our current model of how photosynthesis came to be.)
So in theory - and under given conditions - you could have a more complex organism that evolves around a constant supply of radiation, and has their own energy production cycle based on the "digestion" of radiation going on.
Caviat: I'm pretty sure those fungi still produce ATP internally, because as far as I know just about any form of life is based around ATP being used as cellular fuel. So you'd essentially run into the same problem with the ATP, but avoid the problem with the distribution throughout the body.
All that being said, I'm by no means a biologist and only have a basic understanding of how intercellular powergeneration works, so take what I said here with a hefty dose of salt.

Unfortunately, _Final Wars_ nor _2000_ are canon to the MonsterVerse. However, even with the Legendary Goji being on the middle of the scale of Godzillas in terms of raw power, I think that he can still easily beat Kong. Even looking just at what's confirmed MonsterVerse canon, there is a solid counter argument to just about every point that the Kong Stans argue.
I love that the rumble at the end of the video matched up with when kongs step would've landed
"I don't need more holes," said no man ever.
When you started talking about a Kong disadvantage people hadn't though about, my first thought was temperature. A mammal that big should cook itself alive without a heat dump like the ocean to fall back on. Much less a hairy ape running and jumping and the kind.
Forget about the heat, what about the food ? Even if he eat other giant monster in the skull island, he probably kill all giant monster just to keep feed up, imagine how fast other animal going to extinct in the island.
That was actually one of the weaknesses that Godzilla had in _Shin Godzilla,_ before he evolved a complex blood-cooling system. Not to mention, he can violently release all that excess energy in order to reduce significant portions of Tokyo to smoldering rubble.

But monkeh > dinosaur
More seriously, (now I've watched the video) Godzillia can't loose. Not for anything as fun as science though, simple narrative reasoning.
Godzillia is allegory for humanity's hubris, especially around technology. His first appearance is fully linked to the threat of nuclear Armagedon, and he never stops being that. Even when he functions as protector he's incredibly destructive.
The point of godzillia is that, for better or for worse, technology is here and it's dangerous.
Kong on the other hand doesn't have as strong allegorical underpinnings. Depending on interpretation he could represent immigration or barbarism, and neither was core to his development. In modern times however there's been a push to frame him in a more positive light, and can now be considered allegory for nature. He maintains balance and fights against those who would disturb it. But unlike Zilla it's not fundamental to who he is.
With that in mind we can see Zilla vs Kong as technology vs nature. Or more broadly as allegory for climate change. If Godzillia looses then it is saying that nature will eventually beat us back, so we don't have to worry about controlling our technology.
Whereas if Zilla wins it is saying that our technology will destroy nature. Which is much more in keeping with the allegorical themes of Godzillia.
@@andrewrichbell you are putting way too much thought into a movie where a giant ape fights a giant lizard. It ainât that deep bro.
@@poluticon it's Godzillia, so yes, yes it is.
Godzillia was literally created to give voice to the terror and pain the Japanese felt after Hiroshima & Nagasaki, and then Castle Bravo. His role as an unstoppable destroyer is because he is atomic warfare made manifest. He becomes a protector as nuclear power came online and people started to see that splitting the atom, whilst dangerous, could also be a way forward to the future.
Japanese media, at least the big stuff that gets absorbed in the west, is often far more explicit in its philosophical underpinnings than our own. Godzillia is no exception.

Should do an episode on how slow information would travel along a nervous system that large, and how that would affect their movement (assuming all other things somehow work)
This leads me to the amusing conclusion that one of the Necessary adaptations for any creature of that size would be something like how the octopus has extra like, mini brains in each limb that can react to things on their own. Octoape, lol.
In seriousness though, the adaptation does exist in Cephalopodes today and I could swear there was at least one dinosaur species that was assumed to have something like that, though I could be misremembering the latter. It would make sense though.
Kyle is out here asking life's real questions
Blue Whales are the largest living animals, not the âlargest living organism ever.â honey mushroom
The largest living organism is a single gigantic specimen of honey mushroom (Armillaria ostoyae), discovered in the Malheur National Forest, Oregon, USA, which occupies a total area of 965 hectares (2,385 acres), equivalent to 1,350 soccer fields.
Largest animal is also sort of contested. Sauropods have a few species that are longer, and some may even begin to approach its mass. Heaviest animal is more accurate.
5:58 then again, he's seen eating other kaiju on skull island; Casually Consuming Kraken Kalamari, and given how he frequently comes into contact with skull crawlers, that ecosystem within the sponge earth of that canon might support such absurd caloric intake. Also, who knows how much energy might be in the flesh of kaiju that needed an environment of absurdly high radiation levels to evolve; Kong might still be powered by the radiation of that kraken he ate, or at least for a few years afterward (it was the 80's, after all.) Wouldnât that have to include Godzilla since he is a little bigger and a tail
@@urielandbb9725 He got stubby little legs.
I mean we've seen Kong move faster than that though, so the basis for the argument is wrong. If we just accept that The Zil is "somehow" nuclear powered, Kong must "somehow" be powered by Monke-Anger.
In the collosal effort of adding more science to this, what if Kong just let his foot fall aided by gravity, cutting the 2-minute step in half?
Glad you're getting back to the roots of engaging science and pop culture. Office hours are great but can be a little heavy hitting. Gotta mix in some positive.
Positive for you may be negative to me. Food for thought.
I'm sorry if you're a Kong fan, RIP
Oxygen levels would be an issue too. There's less oxygen in the atmosphere now than when larger creatures like dinosaurs lived..
False, there is actually more oxygen in the atmosphere now than in the Mesozoic, the only time the oxygen levels were higher was back when no vertebrate came to land yet, but even so, vertebrates don't rely so much in oxygen levels, insects do, that's why there were larger in the Carboniferous, but vertebrates have complex respiratory systems that overcome this limitations, that's why doesn't matter the age, tetrapods always reach incredible sizes
I've cracked it, Kevin's are Kyle clones!!!
Actually not, Kevins are Kevin's clones, the original one, that bully him at the school, have yet to be found
Would LOVE to see a part 2 of this concept with the Kaiju and Jaegers from Pacific Rim.
Nuclear
Kong already moves fast in this universe.
To quote Futurama...
"That's not possible!"
"It must be possible! It's happening!"
If your science doesn't match what's happening, then it's not the right science.
"Don't worry! Based on our calculations that giant monkey couldn't possibly reach our location."
"Sir? We're all about to be crushed, do you think you have time to check those numbers again?"
I love how theres only videos trying to prove kong has a chance and none for godzilla, just proving godzilla S H O U L D win
One is a big monke the other shoots f*ckin nuclear lasers out its mouth. It shouldnt even be a question
"the blue whale is the biggest thing to ever exist."? I've never heard of a universe-size whale before.
Technically the whale would only need to be larger than any star and possess more mass than a black hole....because everything bigger than those are actually a collection of multiple things instead of 1 singular thing.
@@thegreywardenherald8923 if you view it that way, then the biggest thing to ever exist is whatever is the heaviest fundamental particle aka the top quark i believe. because everything bigger than that is "a collection of multiple things instead of 1 singular thing" lol
@@REIwAlexY True.
Perhaps this whale is so massive we simply exist as part of one of its atoms and have yet to develop the science to fathom things that big. Men in Black style.
@@lebanc571 The universe sits on the back of a giant turtle, Stephen King-style
Blows my mind just how criminally under subscribed and viewd this channel is.
Production value out the wazoo every time đ when you do finally blow up, all your videos - that you thought didn't perform as well as you would've liked - will blow up too. đ
I just realised Kyle isnât in our solar system.
He said he wasnât on earth and then mentioned his roof wasnât ready, meaning his planet or moon has an atmosphere filled with Oxygen.

i heard kong eats pixie-dust, i hope you factored that in!
Great video, these types of videos are my favorite of yours. Like you analyzing movies/television/videogames using real life science and things. Better then your pure real life history/science videos.
Awww Kyle! No, thank you for another phenomenal video đ Love all the work, science, and nerdiness you add to your videos
We could imagine or expect Kong to have 2 or 4 hearts or more to maintain his bleed pressure. Just like Godzilla mostly would, Kong's or Godzilla would have issues with calorie intakes being an issue in less they are Fusion powered or such. What if Godzilla and Kong had been nothing but fast twitch muscles to allow them to faster or some such.
bit late but im thinking the same, we cant just expect a huge animal like kong to just be built the same as a normal gorilla, anythin that evolved to be huge in size must've developed systems to allow it to do so. we have no comparison to see what kinda evolution could happen in a different environment that maybe could support huge creatures; differences in how bones develop or even what they're made of, along with maybe different energy processing systems for muscles. If we just compare it to how life has/can develop on earth then obviously kongs biology doesnt work out
good thought bro, but I guess Kong has only one heart because in the movie Godzilla stomped on his chest and his heart stopped beating and he collapsed, if he had secondary hearts he probably would have been keep going. Also, I think kong is a carnivore, he ate giant squids and other animals in skull island seen in both movies and comics. So, I'm pretty sure Kyle's explanation stand correct
You were wrong on the King Kong diet. In Kong skull island you see him eating a mega giant octopus and since you were wrong on that fact that at the very least puts the rest of your analysis and theorizing into question.
Don't forget that while he's taking that step for over 2 minutes, Kong has to somehow maintain has balance. Sure, his girth makes this easier than it would be for us, but that's still 2 minutes while the earth's gravity continues to pull him down, winds blow, etc.
Thank goodness for movie magic or this film would've been longer than the Snyder Cut.
6:36 I love that there's an actual scientific paper about NGE
2:30 minutes per step imagine the balance that would take
That was my first thought as well. Over two minutes of balancing on one foot sounds like it would be pretty hard even if you were standing perfectly still with your back and leg straight; let alone actually stepping forward or needing to navigate around obstacles or maneuver against an opponent.
That just translates to "he wouldn't actually take steps that big"
4:58 I'm just gonna take this as confirmation of my fanon about the massive legions of Kevin clones.
Clever Kyle using a monke video to cover up his research on giant robots
also, godzilla is generally supposed to be much larger than kong. I know in the film he isn't bc they had to make it even but yeah...Kong's average height is around 15 meters while godzilla's is closer to 100 meters. One climbs towers, the other destroys them...
damn i'm early !!
Same
That's what she said!
Iâm waiting for all these theorists to realise that we donât care, we just want to see a dinosaur fight a monkey
Honestly was hoping to see Kyle do random tasks around the facility while we wait for Kong to take a single step
Seems I'm early. [laughs evilly]
Ah so you were the 1 dislike đ
I believe you're on time not early
"The blue whale is the biggest thing to ever exist"
I didn't realize you renamed your mom.
10:00 Loved the pun.
Godzilla: I am a lizard that is powered by nuclear reactions
Kyle:cool, sounds perfectly reasonable
King Kong: is a big monke
Kyle: and I took that personally
So this is REALISTIC movements, which means in the movie (s) he's just faster
Chonke Monke eat the chom choms
That monke's footsteps are like OHKOing a Blissey from full health in DPPt
This guy makes the best community posts
Because Kong has actual hands the humans should have given him a sword. A sweet Hattori Hanzo hand crafted Samurai Sword!
Hello there
General Kenobi

HHi
Kyle: Now I know neither is going to 'win' because 'money'...
Godzilla: ...And I took that personally.
I'm so jealous of those luscious locks, Kyle's hair is as majestic as a lion's mane.
Hold on, on the way down, the step would be a huge and fast impact, he would have to suspend his foot unnaturally for it to come down that slow. So something is wrong about the calculation or in reality most of the 2 minutes would be used for preparing to lift and lifting the foot to take the step. It wouldnt be evenly spread out
The slow-paced footstep makes me think of Shadow of the Colossus and the lumbering giant trope.
Running away from Kong is like that guy trying to escape Austin Powers in the steam roller.
If you don't give Kong some sort of plot armor, he wouldn't stand much of a chance against a being that is covered in actual armour, is roughly his strength, and can shoot beams of death out. of its mouth
1:15 they'll team up against Mechagodzilla or some other Kaiju, or maybe even just against Humans.
You're awesome Kyle. I remember you in Vitamania!!! You did so great.
So I'm a little late to the game but, I love your work. Super happy you made it out of the Void. I do have a question for you (no full video needed although would be pretty cool) Can we build something like and similar to in size to the Hela-Carrier from the MCU? The weight of an aircraft carrier is about 100,000 tons.
I love the good eats style food shot!
Would Kong even be able to eat fast enough to keep up with the metabolic demand from his body? Also how would he lose excess body heat?
Nope, he wouldn't, and as for the body heat, he couldn't, he would effectively cook himself from the inside out, lovely jubbly.
I'm not to sure on the "what if he sat in the Arctic?" Question, though I suspect he would melt most of what was around him, unless he was actually submerged in the water, in which case he would sink and drown so... yeah not looking good for giant monke.
