Denzel Washington will receive the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award, celebrating his life and work. The special will air on TNT on Thursday, June 20, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by an encore at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. I think Chadwick reminds Denzel of his young self. There is grounding (for lack of a better word) in both of them, a quiet dignity, the deepest of the deepest humility, that God placed in them. The fact that they acknowledge and thank God first, on each stage, without apology. It brings tears to my eyes, and I know that our Father in heaven is pleased with their worship.

The greatest tragedy, to my aging and aching heart, is that this young, well-spoken and supremely talented young man, will never have the opportunity to build a legacy that others will have the chance to build upon.
His work was mind-blowing and humbling and damned near perfect, but if life were fair, and the world not so cruel as we all know it to be, he would, one day, have been sitting where the inestimable Mr. Washington was sitting on this night, and some young, supremely talented actor would standing where he is, singing his praises.
Mr. Boseman passed away on my 58th birthday, and I wonder at the unfairness of fate, that he who gave so much would die so young, where I who offers so little, continues to breathe...
