Norfolk & Western 475 & Strasburg 90 7-14-2018

- Here is our last video before the Big Adventure this week! Set finally got to see the Norfolk & Western 475, and Set also chased the 90 again as well. If you want to skip past the 90 & 475 getting ready for the day skip to 20:00 , this video was longer then what Set thought it was going to be but we think its our second best video from 2018 so far!
Few things, while we do use Tripods there have been instances where it was easier to hand hold as we didn't have a lot of time to set up. As was the case in this video especially beating the 475 to the crossing at Cherry Crest Adventure farm. There is a few other cases but we thought the video came out great!
So as a Kid The Strasburg 90 was in Set's favorite train VHS, All About Fast Moving Trains which also Featured Western Maryland 734. The 475 was also in Thomas & The Magic Railroad. Set grew up with Shining Time Station & Thomas and remembered seeing the movie in Theaters. It actually wasn't until after going to Strasburg in 2016 that he found out 475 was the locomotive Billy Twofeathers ran in the movie. Last year it was announced by the Norfolk & Western Historical Society that the 475 would be going out for it's 1472 day inspection. Believe it or not Set had planned to go down to Strasburg on uly 15th last year(Almost a year to the day!) To chase & ride it but canceled last minute. So after last year Set thought it would be a while till the 475 ran! Well in April he got word that the 475 still had some time before the boiler time expired, and Set back in April tried to go down but found out when he would have the 90 was running. When the Red Ball Express was Announced he was hoping the 475 would be running that day but it was not, but still the Red Ball Express was a great time! And the 89 was impressive as well. Set actually forgot all about the 475 until early last week when he got notice of it running this week! With that Set decided to head down Saturday!
And while the 475 pulled the Half Hourly Set still caught it in multiple locations! Set was also glad the 475 still had it's N&W Hooter! While at first he barley caught them at Cherry Crest Farms & Back, the 12:30 excursion he made up for. Doing what he did for the 90 & 89 he caught them twice so by the 1:30 excursion he only had one more location and was able to get a few other shots as well. After 2:30 the 475 was put a way for the day, and the 90 pulled the rest of the excursions. Set took a quick lunch break and then chased the 90 for the rest of the day! Because of all the locations Set caught the 90 at last month he really only had one new location for a shot at Esbendshade but was able to get a few other different angle shots and locations. The Dinner train the light was just perfect, and while Set got some great shots of the day the sunset shot at the end at the Red Caboose Hotel was probably the best in the video.

I’m glad you remembered that #90 was in the VHS tape “all about fast moving trains”. I saw that video so many times as a kid. And seeing it again today I’m like OMG! It’s Strasburg Railroad #90! Yea, back then I didn’t know much about Strasburg Railroad. But to see #90 was in a video from my childhood past. Makes me want to ride a train pulled only by 90. And yea. I didn’t know till now that 475 was in Thomas and the Magic Railroad till now.
Pinchie08 I didn’t know much about the Strasburg Railroad till I saw it a few years back. I recognized the 90 instantly. Although my favorite locomotive on that VHS was the 734. Wish I could have seen her.

I don’t mind that N&W hooter whistle 475 blows. I think the 3 chime she blew in 2015 is better. But the hooter whistle is being than the N&W Moose whistle. Oh I hated that Moose whistle. #90 blows a Reading 3 chime.
Pinchie08 I think 90 is a reading 6. I remember K&L trainz saying something like that. I actually like the hooter on 475. It took me years to realize it was 475. Because when it was in Thomas & The Magic Railroad as the last rainbow sun, it was still in its Strasburg Appearance. It was till 2004 it got its original identity back.
This rail fan sure was happy to have been there for you! It was nice hanging around and running into you many times. By the way.. did you know that Taco cat spelled backwards is still Tacocat. I thought that would help you identify me~! Love the video!

Do you ever get nervous that your going to miss the train Bc they make it somewhere before your car does?
Damn, #90 made quite a hasty departure starting at 29:47. Was the train running late? I can't see any other reason why the crew would start off that quickly. Though one thing's for sure, #90 had some stellar stack talking :D
markusdude1 no clue but they did it the weekend before with 89. She literally turned day into night.
How come there where pushing 89 out and in the shead
