I think the most impressive part of this video is how knowledgeable this guy actually is about this truck. Hes not just some car salesman.
Absolutely! It was a treat to hear someone actually give full answers.
He is their chief engineer.
@@RustOnWheels German engineer, no bullshit, no fluff.
Getting the actual engineers involved with a presentation like that is awesome.
Just a side note: if you are into space stuff, you MUST visit Kennedy Space Center. It will absolutely blow your mind that you can casually speak to a very nice old man who is extremely knowledgeable because they are actual engineers who developed, for instance, Saturn V. A humbling experience.
He may know about the truck, but he is utterly clueless and ignorant to the trucking industry and DOT regulations.. If he spent just 2 years driving a truck over the road he would see how utterly retarded this idea is.. lol
Props to Nikola for sending AN ACTUAL ENGINEER WHO KNOWS HIS SHIT to do this test drive and not just a standard sales guy. Also, he seems like a great guy.
I doubt this would ever happen, but it would be great to see him on the channel again.
Christian Appel works for Bosch. It seems like the whole Nikola operation is run by European companies like FPT and Iveco.
@@narvul Christian Appel used to work for Bosch but now works for Nikola. It is common in the auto industry (and most other industries) for people to have worked for more than one company. For example Tesla lead designer Franz von Holzhausen used to work for Mazda, but that does not mean Japanese companies like Mazda run Tesla.
@@narvulEuropean here, and the same truck I believe is offered as an IVECO model in the EU (the diesel-engined models use the same cab and chassis). I have a feeling IVECO is heavily involved and/or owns Nikola these days.
Yeah this guy has great energy..
Nikola was a startup that made billions in venture capital investments and never shipped a product. The brand has been sold off .
the most dangerous thing is the screen controlled ac and interior controls. as a truck driver myself, the last thing I need is a giant screen I have to stare at just to change the trucks ac temp, when they could have just used buttons I can memorize by feel. keep things simple because it works
same goes for normal cars, i hate that all the new cars put everything into a screen....
It’s great to have John back, I know everyone has been missing him and asking about where he’s been. the channel didn’t feel the same without him. Rich Rebuilds is finally whole again!!
Lol I don't approve of this gaslighting haha
Fleet vehicle EVs like short haul semis and delivery trucks (Amazon, FedEx, etc...) make huge sense. Shorter distances with frequent stops and lots of idle time is simply a big waste of fuel and generate tons of emissions.
Thats the only time ev makes sense
They wount make sense when they have to replace the battery in it.
@@infernoking7504 Longer haul will come into play more in time, but there needs to be alot more infrastructure and changes in the way the planning of movements is done around it
Amazon went electric delivery vehicles a little over a year ago in my area, and you don’t see any of them anymore. The range just doesn’t last for all day delivery. I was running errands after work one day and they were all lined up at the local charging stations so they could finish their route. A few more years of better battery tech should help though.
these and the hydrogen ones would be great for ports with emissions regulations. you could run these trucks all night
Love how knowledgeable and enthusiastic the company rep is. Very glad Nikola is still around and wishing them success!
29,000 is waayy too heavy!
Edison Trucks did a video about the failure of Nicola trucks.
Nikola is recalling all 209 of the battery-electric semitrucks it has made to date to repair a potential flaw in their battery packs. A fire that started in a truck's battery pack destroyed five Nikola trucks at the company's headquarters in June. The recall doesn't affect Nikola's new fuel-cell-powered semitruck.3 hours ago
Nikola recalls all battery-electric trucks following a fire - CNBC
so a recall may be for changing a small breaker component or so.. don't know
@@mrKramble
Coolant pump related component replacements were required, the required fix is capable of being done in the field as well. They determined a leak caused the short and fire at the models at their factory. At least from what I gathered doing a bit of searching and reading a few followup articles.
@@theLuigiFan0007Productions So relatively a small job to solve it..
@mrKramble
Seems that way. It'l probably just be a issue of logistics, sourcing revised parts, and making sure everyone gets the parts in a timely manner. Logistics is always the worst part of handling recalls from a company's perspective. As long as they handle this issue well moving forward, I see it as them acting in a responsible manner. If they don't, that's a major negative against their record again. We'l see how it goes, I'm kinda curious to see how it goes.
Edison Trucks did a video about this.
I made fun of Nikola before when the fallout of the downhill rolling truck, but I take everything back and I'm happily surprised to see them doing well now
In reality, this is iveco strallis, just rebranded. It's kind a like a stollen valor for me
There is no such thing as a bad press story. An unknown brand and a brand that is recognized for all the wrong reasons put together gets you to this point. CEOs sat down with the board members and made a deal that may end up being the best love for investors. Most of the large investments into these types of deals will have everyone either driving an EV or walking to meet an Uber. This product is in a test market mode. I am not willing to take blame for the emissions that harm the environment. Most of that is caused by big business making stuff we don't need and most of that junk gets hauled by big rigs. Humanity needs less junk period. The ICE engines of today are at their most efficient today. Does not make sense to rid the rode of them unless it's about controlling society which is what the agenda is all about. I do not like it at all. We are living in unprecedented times. Best of luck to everyone.
@@valuerc2664 Please do not equate these trucks/companies with stolen valor, there is no equivalence here. That is the reality.
Nikola is not doing well. They had to recall every BEV semi they made because of fire risk, some of them already caught fire.
@@ChiSpire I was looking at the financials, they took a big hit because of that in the 3rd quarter. They claim to be passed it, it will be interesting to see if they can keep going. The stock price is looking pretty inviting.

Ummmmm no they can't, it has the same requirements as any other class A.
A ton of trucks are automatic these days. Pretty much any yahoo can drive them. Driving them well still takes skill, just like driving anything well. Just driving them, not as much.

@@Boostiverse I never said a manual was hard to drive, but an automatic is still easier. ;-)
Living in Arizona and a CDL operator, I have seen these trucks on the road. I'm glad Nikola has turned things around and made a actual production semi. I know technically the bodies are based on a Iveco, there's alot of third parties that make the parts but I'm fine with that. Good to know off the shelf parts can be acquired.
They recalled every single one of them a couple days ago. I doubt they will make it the end of the year.
From what I heard they basically took an already built EV truck from Europe and slapped a Nikola logo on the front and that they are still struggling financially with lacking infrastructure, but idk what to believe. The Nikola employees seem nice at least haha that's something positive

As a relatively small company it makes huge sense to use the cabin etc experience of a large manufacturer for ergonomics and scale. I do hope this gets EV semi trucks going, especially for all short haul distribution around cities this is a great step forward in pollution, noise and energy efficiency.
The issue is that it’s one that you can’t get parts for in the US easily, you really need to be able to fix it if something wears out

Edison motors in Canada is on track to build diesel electric trucks just like locomotives and heavy haul mine trucks use. That's the BEST option. "Natural disasters" Do you mean that ones always occur? 😂😂
@@Atrocities85 Exactly, these 'Global Warming Climate Change' buffoons are that. These "natural disaster" have been happening since earth has supported life and before.
