- After buying this MGF from AutoAlex for £600, Mike has dragged into Tom Lenthall Ltd to see if he can get it back on the road by getting it through a UK MOT. Will the MG put up a fight?
We will be donating money from this project to the RNLI through the 'Our Beautiful Emma' fundraiser - justgiving.com/page/claire-wa...

Original video from Alex: • I BOUGHT 5 CARS FOR £1...
Nice to see the other side of Tom. Love seeing him enjoying the antics with Alex and the boys, but seeing the more professional side of Tom and hear about the work in the shop, the racing, the fun rivalry with Swallows etc is a reminder that the guy really knows his stuff.
Yeah, totally this. The guy knows his stuff and looks to put out total quality.
Mike roasting Tom is hilarious because he can’t come back as hard as he can on AutoAlex’s channel…😂
You can't compete with a bit of Scottish wit
Tom is bloody awesome still 👊🏻
@@MoreDRIVETRIBE Oh for sure, I could listen to that man waffle on about Jags till the cows come home
Great to see the unity between all these car channels and Tom seems to be the glue.
Most of them worked together before at car throttle
We need to see more of Tom Lenthall’s mechanic…. What a sound bloke 👍
Thank you I hope to be in more videos in the future
Tom Lenthall is an absolute legend & a plethora of knowledge!
LINGLONG!!!!! Best budget drift tire you can buy! small rims = cheap tires P.S. do a burnout with the linglongs they smoke nice
😂
The Linglongs are on the front and it’s a rwd car …. It’ll take some time before these start smoking doing burnouts 😄
They see me linging. They longing.
Nice to see the RNLI getting the recognition they deserve
My dad was crew on flamborough big boat then senior helmsman on the inshore boat and is now HonSec
Nice seeing all these crossovers and Tom's sound on camera
He’s brilliant 🙂
Nice to see more of Tom, a great guy. Very kind of him letting the MG be worked on in his amazing workshop, with help from one of his mechanics. Great seeing a tour of the yard outside, all the interesting cars Tom owns/works on.
Tom is such a top shelf fellow, i love that a couple of channels have latched onto him, giving him business and exposure.
Haha I have Linglong tires on one of my cars! Chinese tires are very popular in Paraguay because brand-name ones cost about the same as a month and a half's worth of salary money.
Ouch!
@@MoreDRIVETRIBE I know!
I love listening to Tom, seems like such a lovely bloke too.
Glad to see everyone clubbing together in memory of Emma. ❤
My condolences Tom. 🤝
Emma sounds great! Lost my mum a few years back, and one of her favourite charities was the RNLI! No matter who it is, or how dangerous the conditions, they do their best to save ALL people (also they’re VOLUNTEERS too, which blows my mind). I’ll be donating as soon as my pay comes through. Sorry for your loss Tom, if there’s an afterlife, she’s there, smiling that you’re helping a cause she loved! ❤
What a brilliant guy Tom is! 👊🏻
💯
Tom is the most wholesome bloke I've ever watched. All the content creators bring the absolute best out of his personality. Jag man through and through
I absolutely loved this and especially the personal and emotional section at the end about Tom’s friend and the MGF being part of it ❤
My father in law had an Austin Princess 2.2 and the exact thing described with the ball joint lucky he was doing between 25-30 round a bend there had been no knocking or any normal signs.
$20 Aussie to RNLI for Emma :-)
Love the lil MG and as Tom said great concept, flawed execution.
I swore off Jags after my Mk 10 and went to Rangie classics of which I still have a few... Got to say though the Mk 1 has crossed my mind a few times as a project plus Aussies have no snow or salt ...............
So pleased to see tom on more channels.
Lovely chap!
Love what you all are doing and helping others.
Always pleasure to see Tom his passion and knowledge comes across really well on video. One thing to note MGFs and TFs tend to be quite picky with tyres they can handle really badly with mismatched or bad tyres
I think I love that balljoint design!! Way better than the push fit fuse welded bollocks normally have to deal with. Although I guess those threads can get destroyed too...
They are a NIGHTMARE to remove 😂😂
@@Pugjamin Really? Can't ya just use a big ol pry bar and a bit of heat?
Brilliant video- surprised Alex hadn't done a walk round video like this
You should do more pieces like this! Loved hearing the history of all these amazing cars, which we don’t see a lot of on this side of the pond.
The ball joint on a mini is quite different and makes the metro’s look space age, mini ball joints are actually shimmed on the hub, and are actually re-buildable
This ball joint is a male fitting and a sealed unit, the mini is a female where as you correctly say it is shimmed.
@@bountyhuntermk2520 100% true, ive owned many minis and re-shimming ball joints is part of regular servicing.
@@cornovii3012 Aahh yes! I remember that you basically had to remove a shim the day before every MOT , when there were no shims left, you had to buy a repair kit and start all over again!
Toms a lovely bloke , it’s great to see all the channels coming together and not completing for views , love the banter love the all the videos , ps Tom has a CZcams channel for you who don’t know 👍🏼
It’s great to see the different channels supporting echo other. We need more of this side of Tom, he seems like a really knowledgeable guy.
There is is place just off the A1 near Grantham, There are loads of MG's for sale . This is also fantastic what Alex has created with regards to the Charity .. awesome work everyone !
This series has been great so far, looking forward to the tidying up of the MG! Supporting a great cause.
those tyres should last for a 'ling-long' time!!
🙃
Only heard about tom lenthal when Alex started putting him on the channel a while back but he's such a natural in front of the camera and seems like such a cool guy! Looking forward to seeing more from him in the future!
I had a ball joint come out like that and sent me into the opposite lane before I yanked it back and into a ditch. Serious stuff no joke.
NOT THE LINGLONGS!!!!! 🤣🤣
The amount of knowledge, unbelievable from Tom. Great sage of the leaping cat 😮
Nice touch with the charity. Fair play. Tom seems a decent bloke.
So wholesome to see Tom actually run out of words! Wonderful gesture Mike
With a understeer biased car, using Linglongs and a bit better gripping tyres in the rear sounds like a dangerous idea. The MGF really benefits from same type/design/brand tyres on all 4 corners. Tyre dimensions front and rear can differ (like this car was delivered 185/55 front, 205/50 rear)
Replying to get this higher up
I had a Tf and it lasted 3 weeks because it span out on a wet road under mild acceleration due to miss matched tires
Thank you. Great project! 👍
The Jag IRS was the Holy Grail for hot rodders back in the 70,s(Ford Pop,s etc) when you could find one in almost any breakers for around £50!
Nothing better than pillaging an mgf and fitting the bits including the 1.8 to a metro 😂
Gotta love Tom. The man's a legend. It's funny hearing him talk about that MG the exact same way my mechanic talks about mine 😂. On my last visit he said he'd be happy if I got rid of it 😅.
I had to agree with Tom’s verdict on the MGF being another big Leyland / MG Rover fail that should have been great… by the mid-90s the problematic / disastrous Triumph Stag had been sorted and rehabilitated after 25 years effort, so someone in the Midlands thought… I know, let’s leapfrog Mazda (and Fiat) and reclaim sports car glory by stretching the reliable Rover K series 1.4 16v to 1.8 litres, give it 120+ HP and stick it in the back of a 2-seater with the radiator at the front ! How hard can it be ? What could possibly go wrong ?
Tom's a legend ❤
Added a small amount to the donation
All the best from Iceland!
Mikes certainly a man after my own heart. I feel a strong MGR affinity!
Nice work Tommy!
Just so you know, normally you can change the hydrothingysuspension with normal one.
I love this mans addiction to mg rover chod. Some of the best cars ever made
Black Jaguar XJC on the lift in the background, but it has series 3 XJ door handles, side mirrors, S3 Grille. The bumper and the turn indicators in the front wings say its a US spec car. Strange to see so mant S3 parts on a S2 Jag.
I don’t even drive but love cars. These guys are great.
My dad has one of the s-type R press release cars on 88,000 miles and is mint, beautiful car.
Great video, more on this little car please
Metro in reverse might be accurate as the mgf test mule was a metro van.. its in the British motor museum now
LingLong is a budget brand tire that we have here in the states! I wonder who else sells that brand tire near you folks?
If you find a component like a Ball Joint failure on one side, Should you replace BOTH ? (unless the other side has already been done). The same goes for Drop links, shocks, springs, CV-boots and all other components that typically wear in pairs.
Well, the moment of Harry Metcalf's XJC, spectacular
As I had to waste some time while my windshield got replaced I learned that Jaguar built wagons for at least 20 years. I’ve never seen one before today
I always thought the E type rear suspension was first developed on the Mark 10 !
Following with interest. Guess no bc coilover conversion on this one.
Your videographer and editor is uh-mazing!!!
I think linglongs were one of the first Chinese tyre suppliers to flood back street garages.
Tom deserves all the $$$. Top stuff lads 💖🙏
Why would you NOT put your the brand new tyres on the front? Surely best tread on steering tyres is important?
Some MGFs have wider tyres on the rear than on the front. I'm fairly certain this one will.
@@ryanwilliams6526Presumably LingLong didn’t do that size when the fronts were done !
Tom trying his best to say anything nice about the mg🤦♀️😂 great concept but it just wasn't the best. I love it.
😂 it was a reasonable effort!
I would like to see a list of the strictest car regulations by country and I think Japan would top that list and England would be second, the US would be towards the bottom of most list! Except for maybe smog?
I dread the day we see Mike’s “Why I left Drivetribe” video. Seems to be the common thing these days
Change the front tyres! Any mid engine car is sensitive to tyre choice and the MGF is no different - it’ll handle way better if you do 👍
Lovely bloke, great project
Toms looking great! 💪
That number plate could be worth as much as the car itself, maybe worth looking at selling it separate to the car?
where i live in America we have no vehicle inspection or testing and i absolutely love it. Indiana FTW!
all these channels are like the avengers, I just cant wait for the amazing crossover episode between Drivtribe, AutoAlex, TDC & CarThrottle! petrolheads assemble!
Aston, Rover and Jags, money to charity, what more do you need. Great episode.
Can't unsee that numberplate - RIM GF 🤣
The S type was DEW project shared with the small lincoln of the time late 1990's
I love those Jags ❤
I had linglongs on a 1999 Suzuki alto that cost me 700 last year, fun little car that was
Please take the R1 badges off now
Every time Mike tries to get someone to say nice things about his Rover and they don't. It's like throwing darts 🎯 at him.
Tom just comes off as such a nice bloke.
Would like to see you K swap it, there a lovely little car to drive, but a bit more power would make it great, Rj in Oz
19:20 And Mike never told any of you this, he is going to give me the Alfa as he has way too many cars now to keep on the road... So thanks Mike you are a legend!
Tom's great on AutoAlex but it's so nice that in Mike's company he's able to truly release his inner nerd
Whats with the taillights on the db7? Do they come from a virage?
Supreme Prowess of extreme excellence, I hope thats the translation for LingLong
Type is British racing green(BRG)
All them lovely cars in a circle with the MGF in the middle.
Tom is the man
Just think how many ‘borrowed’ paintings are sat in Toms yard😁
Tom’s V12’s!!!❤
Tom comes across as a very decent human.
Cant believe nobody is putting an actual R1 engine in this thing.. imagine how much that woukd sell for..👌
Every time I see Tom Lenthall on a video I just want to go on a road trip with him and listen to Level 42
tom is a legend and a tree of knoledge
*Three advisories - subframes front and rear and 'BRAKE MASTER CYKINDER AREA DAMP?' (sic)
Yes yes it passed as in the last drivetribe video you drove it to get the seats 🤣
man I do love a fast Jaguar sedan...
Tom is a top bloke 👍
Love the fist pumping OKing montage. 😁
I just got a MG TF and i think people realy under estimate them brill little cars i see them all over You tube could say they are the uk youtube car
my mom had ling long studded winter tires.... an absolute deathtrap.... i wont touch a ling long tire ever again after that.
Laaaarrrrve a bit of Tom L!❤
