For Air Force members to non-combat areas, a typical Duty Assignment (orders) lasts anywhere from 2 to 4 years. Combat areas usually have 12 to 15 month deployments. After a combat deployment, soldiers usually get about 12 months back state-side (depending on their spec. and whether their role is vital to the mission or not. If vital, they may have to go back sooner). Even so... just because they are back in the USA, it doesn't guarantee they will be given leave (vacation time) to go visit family. They will just be rotated back to their original duty station. So it's not uncommon for military families to go years without seeing each other.

Many people that go in are from poor areas, and go in because it's a better job than what is available in their area. Some go in because they want to follow their families' footsteps. It also looks good on a resume.

This is one of the reasons why military rules and regulations are tough. When you are out in public you represent your branch of the military, and your country. Every move you make and every step you take is sharp and crisp.

But I am one of the few who don't have that privilege. some people think that having a father to walk you down the isle and having a brother to help with the wedding are just common things. Well some people give that up to go and fight for their country and some don't come back.

I am truly sorry and I promise they are not forgotten at all. Each day I pay tribute to my lost brothers and sister if I knew them or not its tattooed on me for life. I would never have my children in the USA. No US citizens, thank you. They would earn the "privilege"of going to fight. And if they are killed next they are buried with honors and you are suppossed to be proud. I would never join the army or be a marine or whatever. How many lives lost in stupid wars, dead not for their country but for political issues of the Government and the president. And they send young men and women to kill and get killed. So Sorry for all the loved ones who have died and others even never return😪
