Fascinating to see how it's done! Amazing how frame fits round the lens on Reykjavik Eyes. (Particularly love your background music which I also commented on in another video with another guy doing similar). It's quite challenging work really to produce your frames on site with such accuracy. Very skilled!
It is! Here's a little story for you...
When I first started at The Spectacle Factory, Reykjavik Eyes had just launched. They are unique now, but they were even more so back then. And my colleagues were having a nightmare fitting the lenses - they would constantly break because of the way the frame fits into the lens (rather than the lens fitting into the frame).
We were going to send all our stock back because they were so problematic - but I instantly loved the design of the frames and knew it was the future.
I spent hours and hours practicing with scrap lenses and developed a technique where we could fit the lenses without any chipping or cracking by cutting a custom groove into the lens - with a very particular width and depth. When I was happy, I told Gunnar Gunnarsson about it.
To this every Reykjavik frame arrives at the opticians with a little instruction guide that explains how to cut the lenses specially for them - it's the method I originally developed.
