Most powerful .22lr ammo!

I get all my.22 rimfire ammo from
Clearwater cartridge company. Grew up there. 12 years old, 1970, got a rugger 10/22, real American walnut stock. $49.00. Tierney's I.G.A. groceries store was my ammunition place. Mom and Dad had a charge account. Mom would let me go get two boxes of mine mag's, and Mrs Tierney would hand me a clip board with a paper and said 2 boxes .22 cartridge's @ .57c each and I would sign my name. I would Head out the door and start loading up my one and only 10 round magazine and place it in the mag well, carried the rifle in to the store on my shoulder, with a nice leather sling. Walk about two miles down to the canyon and start hunting. Good ole days! Still shoot the 10/22 regularly. Never had an issue with the ammo that comes from Clearwater cartridge company!

Thanks for your video I am here in Oregon USA and was just looking for information on hyper velocity .22 lr ammo and you pretty much covered it. I was surprised also at the velocity with the velocitor out of a 5 1/2 inch pistol barrel which is much better than some rifles with high velocity 40 grain LR loads.
Keep up the good work. Also I was under the impression that Canada had banned handguns for some reason, but you have one in the video. Maybe it was for any future purchases of handguns are now banned. I hope you guys up there get back some of your gun rights like there was back in the good old days. I also have a Ruger pistol similar to yours and thats one handgun that will last more than one lifetime some of them have gone well over 100,000 rounds with no issues.

Glad you found the info useful! Handguns were banned in Canada in Oct 2022. Those of us who had handguns at the time can continue to own and use those guns but can never buy or sell them. As it stands now, all handguns will be confiscated as the owners die off, or fail to keep up their gun licence, without any compensation to the owners or their families. It's an unfortunate situation and hopefully a future government will reverse the ban.

Winchester Super X and Browning are the same ammo just different packaging. It’s made in both high and hyper velocity.

Also the Marlin 39A probably has the best barrel with the Micro Grove rifling: it’s The Classic lever action, that being said the same Design is in at least 4 different calibers .

Just a note: The small amount of power to cycle the semi automatic Does pull some of the energy to cycle the action

I can’t recall the name of the video but someone on CZcams did an experiment with a 22lr rifle that could be fired but semi auto and manually. He tested to see if there was any difference in projectile velocity between the two actions and difference was insignificant from what I remember.

I heard the federal punch 29gr FN can be good in a rifle. Despite being designed for pistols.

The Winchester 40 grain Hypervelocity has proven their speed has exceeded the claimed speed of 1435 fps and achieve 1485+ fps. Nearly 200 lbs force!

Question, how do you go about calculating ft lbs of energy? (i.e. how could I do it as well?)
And if 22 had to be used for any defense, is ft lbs of energy generally the most important factor?

There are several energy calculators online, just need to input velocity and weight of the bullet. Can’t speak to use for self defence, they don’t let us talk about such things in Canada :P

Have you looked at Norma Eco Speed? 1700+ FPS in a .22lr seems like it should be in this conversation.

Thank you for the suggestion, I hadn’t heard of that ammo. According to Norma’s website, they advertise the Eco Speed’s energy at 160 ft-lbs. And that’s with a 26” barrel so I assume that energy is best case scenario. Definitely one of the heavier hitting 22lr rounds but wouldn’t have been enough to compete in this test.

@MigsOnGuns I sent my rapid fire in. They tested various lots and I bought the lot that tested best. It is not the most powerful. It is consistent, the most consistent ammo I have found. And still cheaper than center fire ammunition is.
Though not sure how that would work across borders.

CCI claims the stingers have 191 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle 1640 ft per second veloster's f183 ft lb per second at the muzzle and 1435 feet per second I don't understand how you getting your numbers

I’ve never gotten 1640 fps with the handful of boxes of Stingers I’ve used over the years, the Chronograph averages I’ve gotten are about 100 fps less than advertised on the box.

I’ve tried them in the past and thought about including them. However, even though they’re really fast they’re also really light. So light that they don’t add up to the energy level of the ones I tested in this video.
