    I think Elgar'nan has a deep connection to the blight. The horns on his back kind of give it away. In Origins and Awakening there are chantry statues that are defiled by the darkspawn, these statues all have the crescent horns added on their back and sometimes horns on their head. In the deep roads we even see them add the horns on random objects. This whole time they were worshipping Elgar'nan.

      Actually, DA:Origins hinted at Falon'Din as the will behind the Blight: The eluvian we interact with in the dalish elf origin sits in a place dedicated to him, and the darkspawn that broke into the Tower of Ishal at the Battle of Ostagar, did so through elven ruins adorned with the "Falon'Din skull". There is even an old elvhen song affirming he "mastered the dark that lies", and a constellation codex entry that pretty much says Falon'Din = Lusacan, the old god of night, one of the 2 remaining uncorrupted old gods.
      Nonetheless, that is 15 years old lore, most likely retconned by the new BioWare.

    I think that most/all Evanuris probably turned into dragons, and considered dragons their divine symbol of sorts (and it's why they punished non-Evanuris who took on dragon form).

      I think you're right. Not just that, manybof them seem to have a 'favored' animal form for themselves and their followers. (I.e. ravens, bears, owls). I think this is related to the shape-shifting magic that Flemeth taught Morrigan.

    -----
    If we compare the Elvish creation myth of Elgar'nan with the Christian one (as devs have taken inspiration from our world's history, myths, legends and religions), then we could say the following; The spirits were modelled after angels, full of the power to create but not having the creativity or will do do so. They were jealous of the second creations; humans, who lacked the spark of creation, but had plenty of will to shape the world around them to their needs.
    (Quick refresher on Solas' creation story, pieced together from various codex entries, Cole and other sources;
    Solas was given a body made from the earth by Mythal. He was a spirit of Wisdom or something similar and she called him down into the body. He bore her Vallaslin for a while and after he burned that off for some reason, he chose to keep a scar on his forehead to remind him of it. Back to Elgar'nan and the other Evanuris;)
    If the earth doesn't mean Titan but creatures that are not spirits, than the sky/sun could be the spiritual world. Elgar'nan was the first spirit to make/take a body. Other spirits were jealous as Elgar'nan now had the power to not just dream but also create. The other spirits were jealous, leading to demons that he had to take care of for a while. That is until Mythal, another spirit, also learned how to make/take a body and calmed everything down. Elgar'nan was not alone anymore, and the jealous spirits understood there might be a way for them to get a body too; by having Mythal make them.
    As Mythal has been rumored to have created a body for Solas eventually, I think she made one for their five 'children' first. Those Evanuris that the Dalish often think are direct descendants from Elgar'nan and Mythal, but whom I think might be the first five they gave bodies too, the strongest spirits to show a will to have a body. Further proof of this might be Mythal's mosaic where she holds 5 smaller elves in her arms, like children; Falon'din, Dirthamen, Andruil, Sylaise and June.
    We know Ghilan'nain was lifted to godhood later. I think she started as an elf and aspired to become more, hence her body dysmorphia and experimentations. Perhaps after years of creating lesser elves, someone recognised some strong spark of magic (the ability to dream ánd shape) in her and shared with her the knowledge to become more.
    The Evanuris were the strongest among their people, gained followers and that idolation made them even stronger. Like how certain strong beliefs and emotions can shape a stronger spirit or dreamlandscape in Thedas today, leading to spirits like Justice and Cole being able to take shape. Worshipping one of the Evanuris made them stronger. Hence Falon'din wanting more and more followers, until he had to be stopped in fear of overpowering the other Evanuris.
    Solas' wolven statues are found guarding or warning (either laying down or howling), so I think he might have been called down by Mythal into a body as a peacekeeper of some kind. It allowed him access to all other Evanuris' domains, let him see how they treated their 'followers' (slaves), and secretly undermine them without them realising it. He could move among them with ease. Mythal might have even offered him a body just to help her stop them, with him being a powerful spirit that at first did not want a body but she convinced him.
    Once Andruil found the Taint in the Void (inside the body of a corrupted/sick Titan perhaps) Mythal had to cure them and remove the knowledge of where they got it. But the Evanuris now knew there was a place where they could find more power. Even more than the Lyrium and hearts they already took by force from the other Titans. So they eventually got Tainted again, and Solas ended up working together with Mythal to stop them. The other Evanuris realised she was undermining them, so she got killed before her and Solas could execute their plan. Solas he did what he could and ripped the entirety of Arlathan out of the ground and sealed it away, as a prison and a quarantine measure. Solas might not have known he had cast the Veil over Thedas as a whole and only after sleeping for 2 millenia did he see he made the world near-Tranquil. Or perhaps it required too much strength to contain the Veil to one specific area, so he just cast a wider net, just let it flow everywhere?
    And the Forgotten Ones he sealed away could either be the Titans (long forgotten since then) being put into a long slumber, especially if one or more were Tainted.. Or it could refer to the original bodies of the Evanuris they took, in the form of dragons (the Old Gods/Archdemons).

    From the fact that he was apparently the leader, along with Mythal, of the Elven "pantheon", there seems to be good potential there for him to be the new 'big bad'. Simple, but "evil looking" (the horns maybe) designs typically are meant for those calling the shots of more unhinged and outrightly monstrous puppets.

    Many myths from pantheons in our world always describe the sun being "devoured/sundered" as a metaphor for eclipses. Maybe Elgar'nan follows that same pattern and he has the power to use the sun for his magic as well as being able to block its rays.
    And i think we saw in one of the trailers a dragon in front of one, we don't know if he himself can transform into a dragon but it may be related to him somehow.

  • @ALtheuncommonicedragon8360

    I think Elgarnan was not only a dictator but an abusive partner to mythal & probably had a prime role in her murder since she was only one holding him back & Flemeth said that Mythal was betrayed as she was betrayed. And morrigan said as Flemeth told her that she bargained and was betrayed by a high lord who killed her old husband and kept her imprisoned. Elgarnon coming from what sounds like an abusive family situation definitely reflects that cycle of abuse motif. But ultimately he is evil & made his choice.

    • @ImpGoose

      Pure evil indeed. Hopefully he'll be fun to fight hahaha

  • @dimensiondescent4305
    @dimensiondescent4305 Před měsícem +2

    There is also an interesting reflection to consider. Mythal being betrayed is very similar to Andraste, and Flemeth. Both betrayed by their husbands (I know with Flemeth it was actually a noble man who desired her that killed her husband?) so do you think we could consider Elgar'nan had similar desires to Mythal? I don't think she and Solas were romantic, but perhaps they had that intimate relationship that was common among the Ancient Elves? Andraste was betrayed by her husband... For reasons (I have seen some say they liked the theory that Andraste, and Shartan were lovers) and finally Flemeth, Some theories have said that all these women were Mythal through the ages, let us remember what Flemeth said about "nudging" or "shoving" history, and a nice similarity I have seen pointed out in another Content creators video is a Statue of Maferath in the Kocari wilds that is seen in Origins, It has a similar placement of horns crudely placed on Maferath's back by the Darkspawn, this is very similar to Elgar'nan in the gameplay trailer, I can't think of a connection myself, but it is worth mentioning also.

      @ImpGoose there is that, perhaps it's all good and well we know so little about altogether. He is going to be an antagonist, after all, so I think all these lingering questions will be answered to a degree. It's unlikely all will be revealed, though. Solas may tell us much, but what will be accurate? Elgar'nan himself will reveal information, but how much of it will be the result of an arrogant inflated ego? Regardless, I am pleased we will learn more, though... I'm just happy Ghil is also going to be in it. Maybe it's my deep love for Greek mythology, but I see connections with the Zeus/Hera relationship. He was powerful, fickle and abused his power to do whatever he wanted unpunished.
    Even though Hera is usually depicted as a petty jealous wife, she was actually the only one with some authority to punish Zeus for his assaults.
    Moreover the Gods we're used to did fight the titans and banished them, and those titans were their parents!
    I also see Solas as resembling some characteristics of Hecate. A goddess that originated as completely benign, that guided Persephone in her journeys from and to Hades, but that didn't belong to the main pantheon, cause she was a titaness, that helped defeating the other titans. however in time her image got changed, misunderstood and corrupted, and for millennia now she's been considered a mostly negative and dark Goddess. That reminds me of Solas.
    Additionally Hecate's statues where placed facing out doors and at the entrance of temples as protection, just like Fen'harel's statues

    • @ImpGoose
      @ImpGoose  Před měsícem

      I like theories and appreciate that you shared yours! Hope you're okay with debating. There's a tiny bump in the logic of this theory, and I prefer things to be as connected as possible to either narrative or the world's physics.
      The legend of Elgar'nan's creation has Part 2 - Mythal: the Great Protector. It says that on the first night after the sun was released, Mythal created the moon.
      "And that night, when the sun had gone to sleep, Mythal gathered the glowing earth around his bed, and formed it into a sphere to be placed in the sky, a pale reflection of the sun's true glory."
      Also, we should remember that Thedas has 2 moons, so I can't say that eclipses are Elgar'nan's domain.

    I wonder, if anyone knows, where the Blight truly comes from? Was it a) created by Evanuris pre-Veil (and that's another reason why Solas created the Veil), b) an unintended effect of the Veil's creation (a kind of ontological gangrene if you will, cutting off the magical 'life-force' of the World), c) a creation post-Veil by one of the Old Gods/Evanuris to reclaim lost power, or d) an always-existing threat within Thedas pre-Veil? I just want to know people's opinions and theories.

      I think it was a big bad oopsie by the elven gods, when Mythal killed a titan. Maybe Andruil was connected to it somehow too, since she went to the "void" and a "plague at at her lands" until Mythal took the knowledge of how to get there from her. She could have used that knowledge and 'killed' a titan by infecting it with that plague, then it just spiraled out of control and forced Solas to create the veil? Since both Ghilan'nan and Elgar'nan are confirmed to be blighted. Idk!!
