- Right, time to do something with all those models lying around. Here's a look at my 2020 Marines Errant army, painted as quickly as possible and built from loads of old models, conversion bitz and spare parts.

I'd love to see some Badab Narrative reports with your armies, but I know that's a big project.
Hiya. Russ from Ian's Tale of Four Gamer's videos here. I am just about to post my second 5th edition fantasy battle report later today, and the next one will feature my Executioners against Orks in a 9th edition 40k battle report. I have a LOT of Secessionist marines, so I am hoping to persuade Ian to do some Badab battle reports at some point. He can teach me how to do the visuals better!
@@F1fty lookin forward to that! Any way to get Badab onto the table is a plus for me!
I like how all the random mismatched bits in this army represents how hodgepodge most Space Marine chapters are by M41
@@Grymbaldknightyet primaris are supposed to be just as if not more culturally diverse and there’s no reason they’re not as hodgepodge?
@Grymbaldknight yeah as a man with a firstborn marines malevolent army I was able to give them a lot of character
Wow okay you kinda changed my perspective here. I am fairly new to the hobby and so far I have mostly painted single models very...very slowly :D The painting techniques you are describing seem and look very simple to do, yet your army looks absolutely phenomenal. It really shows how a great paint scheme, awesome choice of models, clever kitbashing, and smart use of painting styles and paint properties can yield outstanding results very quickly. This is very inspiring!
Yeah when you look online a lot of the stuff tends to be painted for close up camera shots. That's also the stuff that gets upvoted and so on. But IRL fully painted beats half painted any day and a good colour scheme does a lot of work from tabletop distance.
I'm just getting back into the hobby after about 30 years, and it's really, really daunting watching expert painter level videos where people show all the complex, finnicky techniques they've used in a mini, but present them as straightforward and the sort of thing everyone knows how to do.
I like Ian's take on painting- keep it simple, stupid! I'm particularly fond of the "wash, then remove wash" approach as a way of avoiding having to attempt edge highlights, as I don't have much confidence or a particularly steady hand.
Going to combine that with Pete the wargamer's vid on speedpainting cadians, where he just undercoats everything in grey, dry brushes, and then just adds a bit of detail in black or red. Hopefully will end up with something that looks cool (at a distance) but doesn't stress me out!
Very nice work! Love seeing all the converting and kitbashing to make the models more unique!
Thanks Jay!
This channel is now a holy land of the black Templars… praise be high marshal Jay !
God I love that Guilliman conversion, fantastic work dude!
My first space marine army was MArines Errant back in 1989! Great to see your fantastic interpretation!
LOVE this. I'm just starting a similar 'use up some bits' project. I've been working on several different chaos warbands (one for each god, so far) based on lesser known 'The Judged' chapters from the abyssal crusade, and have a pile of firstborn imperial stuff left over that I've decided to turn into a small Vorpal Swords army (the only chapter that survived the crusade). Same theory - build to the parts I have and the theme, not too worried about tactical value.
Keep up the great work, man.
Yeah, it's great fun to do and very satisfying, emptying out the bits boxes and making... ANYTHING out of them!
Lovely army, especially the HQ’s and tanks.
Awesome work! Absolutely love the Guilliman conversion. And tbh I like how battered the tanks look - other people spend ages trying to sculpt those kind of scars :)
Great work. I particularly love the focus on using up old parts, that is basically my rationale behind my Heresy Dark Angels!
Subbed.
Exactly the sort of video I was looking for tonight. Thank you. They look lovely and I love the metallics.
Great seeing one of the more obscure Space Marine chapters get some attention, as well as the inventive conversions improvised from leftover bits that still fit the theme of the army. I'm already starting to love your channel.
That's a great looking force with some wonderful conversions. Those old school Rhinos and Predators take me right back to my childhood too. This screams Crusade play.
This is amazing. I love the theme and conversion is so perfect.
Cool project idea. I did something similar and ended up with an olde-timey Blood Angels army. It was great fun.
Awesome batch painting of epic proportions! Very efficient use of colours that look good at a distance 👌
Love this as a series, can't wait for more. Thanks!
I love your commitment to paint entire armies in 1 big batch
I always come back to this video of a reminder and army could literally be made from spare bits sometimes
Man, I love seeing finished armies. Great job!
Very nice looking army. Love that you have used the old tanks! :-)
I think they look beautiful. Nice job, inspiring.
Well done on this army, Arbitor. Your choice for the Badab War is perfect. I'm gathering a Minotaurs army now. This is just the coolest. 👍
Just got into Badab stuff because of this channel! Really see the seeds of HH right here. If there can be a good show about any narrative it should be the Badab War.
Lol 3:59 the combat armor nipples! Love em. I also like how your batch speed painted models look better individually than when I've spend a whole night on just 1 model.
Truly inspiring stuff! Thanks a lot for sharing!
I think that you should make more . I love these!
Nice vid mate, a really enjoyable format
Stunning army! I like the old rhinos a lot.
Awesome looking paint job!
Great video and lovely army!
That’s really cool I’m doing the same with my blood angels just emptying the bitz box the stuff you find that you didn’t realise you had 😅🤣
This army is a thing of beauty. Firstborn forever.
Your captain conversion looks badass! Very different from the original, much more dynamic looking. The Roboute conversion is also great.
They look excellent. I'm not usually a fan of the two tone schemes but u have done a really good job there. 👍
Very cool army and nice paint job
Had to go and look Adolforc , what a bizarre product , and why a bust of all things ? So many questions haha
The army looks awesome though , seeing other peoples “quick and dirty” armies really enthuses me to keep going even with projects I loose drive with .
Top work as per !
I love armies like this, just really personal with a great theme. I'm really digging the idea of just getting the models bashed out on the table in a quick and effective scheme. This army looks brilliant! I spend way too long on each figure and from 3 feet away it's just wasted time.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Dude guitar strings for plasma cables is awesome.
Looks great!
I absolutely love this army
A fine looking army, and quality conversions to boot. You make the Marines Errant proud.
It's a shame the chapter had much of its geneseed nicked by the Red Corsairs during the Night Lords novel trilogy. Potentially condemning the Marines Errant to a slow death.
Assuming they don't get an infusion of fresh geneseed, probably from the Ultramarines and big daddy Guillaman. Or else go on a big mission to reclaim what was stolen. That, in itself, could make for a great campaign. A grudge match between the Marines Errant and the Red Corsairs, for the preservation of the chapter and to settle old scores.
love this! Maybe you can start doing armies from your play groups too! cant wait to see more
Well that would certainly be a good way to generate more content *eyes Russ' Lamenters army*
Honestly I just really like a nice, basic paint job. The company veterans look great. I love the storm shields. Marvelous table-ready paint job. And the kitbashing bits were great as well.
This is the first time I've ever signed up to someone's Patreon, seeing my username made me feel proud to enable your squat addiction
Please show more of these Ian! (Unless of course they're all in storage while you're out of your house atm!😅)
cool army!
I'd love to see more badab chapters, please make the space sharks, CZcamsr Majorkill has a great model for Tyberous on his website which is more lore accurate than his official forge world model, great job on this!
Fantastic army and video. I'm really enjoying the community's move from 'look at my pile of shame' to 'look how I'm getting stuff done and not needing by buy more stuff to enjoy the hobby'. Need to paint those base rims black though my man! 😅
GREY RIMS FOREVER!! ✊😄
@@ArbitorIan 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
RADICAL!
I'd love to play a game along your Marines Errant with my Minotaurs against a big force of Lugft Hurons Astral Claws! Maybe sprinkle some Lamenters in with the Astral Claws to represent them arriving midfight and joining the wrong forces xD
Need to see those Tiger Claws.
I'd love to see someone do a RT era Death Eagles army. Gotta love the white halved with pink!
Yes, Ian, but when are we getting the rest of your Badab armies?
I took all the marines I had in my bits box, assembled about 90-man strong army from them (including 15 Assault on Black Reach terminators and 13 Space Marine bikers because why not), primed them with rattlecan, then zenitaled with rattlecan and gave them a coat of yellow with an airbrush, coat of gloss varnish and an enamel wash. Strange, I thought, as they didn't look as good as the test squad I made earlier.
Then I started giving them other colours and found out that the models were hydrophobic. With thick layers I could make the paint stay on, but they would chip away really easily. Only when I started painting a librarian that only had the rattlecan did I realised it was because of the zenital rattlecan because only the white parts hated water and paint. Now I don't know what to do with the...
Nice ... ✌️💚
nice, you should do some conversion videos
This makes me long for 2nd & 3rd edition w40k battle reports.
Love the video you put out, finally a channel that scratches my 40k interest. Love the lore videos and your calm voice and way of explaining things even makes your paint explanations interesting.
Sorry for the maybe stupid question, I´m a complete 40k noob, but why is the tech marine almost completely red color and not the same silver-blue scheme of the army?
All tech marines have red armour, regardless of the chapter they're in.
Thanks!
So yeah, as per the Codex Astartes that chapter follow to a greater or lesser extent, Techmariens are always red (cos Mars), Librarians are always blue and Apothecaries are always white. Their chapter shoulder pad is the same colour as the rest of the chapter though.
NOOICE!
the marines that do actual Marine stuff!
this could have been a great minotaurs army too
Great army. Have you done a video on your Astral Claws somewhere? If not, would love to see one.
Not yet but they really need a bit of work and a rebase so making a video about them might give me the kick I need to do that!
What was the heresy army you were considering?
Not to be that guy, but - isn’t the color scheme “halved” and not “quartered”? Also, your Librarian is one of the two generic Epistolary librarians from 2nd Ed - Tigurius had his own model and afaik the generic librarians were never sold as named characters.
Nitpicks aside, beautiful army!! How are those bases? None of your shots really show them direct on, and I’ve heard the detailing is a bit “soft” compared to the Mechanicus or Necromunda base ranges.
It is halved mate he mis spoke and corrected himself with writing on the screen, easily missed though.
best looking scouts? you sir are forgetting the plastic kit with puffy sleeves and mohawks
I mean, those were lovely too. And anything is better than the current ones. But those single piece metals win I think, followed closely by the 2ed metal Wolfy Scouts!
Think you are too hard on yourself on your painting skills. They look cool. Just enjoy the process
Any word on a Badab wars tale of gamers?
02:47 Wait, What?
C'mon blanko nino that orc Hitler is actually pretty funny
The dude is pretty Sfw. If course he will hate it. And any form of parody/funny critic fly over is head
@@sportyeight7769 Not true. He has discussed about parody before, so his throwaway comment over a bust seems strange.
I'd say it's gauche or trite, like the Napoleon one.
Robert gearman 😆
Scale 75 hate?
The video suggests they released a bust of a parody of a nazi dictator. Which apparently means you can’t buy their products anymore…?
@@mitchgibson3605 yeah not really behind passive aggressive digs at companies trying to make money
@@mitchgibson3605 he is entitled to his own opinion ofc
@@fin4889 if your making money scheme is based on one of the most despicable humans of the last century, maybe you just don't look hard enough at interesting ideas for models.
@@Remcowilders it's an orc though. An orc in the style of the 40k orks who I absolutely don't mind being equated to Nazis do their overall lore and love for violence
adolf ork is laughing at hitler, not celebrating him
2:50 I love this model :D
i didnt know about adolforc ... yikes...
is it annoying that these are white now?
Nah. They were blue and white before, then blue and silver in Badab, and now blue and white again in the latest books. I'm just deciding that the white is just Very Pale Silver
What's it with Spanish paint producers advertising their paint using Nazi-Germany?
