I currently own 8 corvettes. I’ve had a few more in the past. I LOVE going to look at a car and talking with the seller to see if we can come to an agreement. It’s cordial. If we just don’t come together at least we both got to talk corvettes and hang out. Just because two parties don’t agree on selling price isn’t a reason to get mad. It’s part of the fun.
You have great detail info. Thank uou
Lyle, once again you bring logic through knowledge to your videos. Emotions are tough, especially when you’ve had the car for so long, and took extremely good care of it. Thank you for covering this topic. Tough “letting go” but you’ve provided insights that will help me as I prepare to “put her on the market”! Can’t thank you enough.
What are you looking 👀 to sell? 🤔
Well done Lyle...."trust but verify"
Lyle, this is why it took me so long to get a C5 Vette. 😅😊
Research 🧐, research 🔬, research 🌎! I watched all your c5 and c4 videos and then went to drive the cars.
When I found one that meet my standards. I still offered $3,500 less than the asking price. Because there’s always room to negotiate. 😮😊 Ohh 😮 and I knew there would be things to fix. Guess what on 20 year old very well maintained (I have a book 📕 of service records.) Corvette. I am looking at a couple of thousand bucks worth of services. 😮😢
Thanks for sharing again that we gotta take our emotions out of the equation.
Be well Lyle and thank Steve for helping me diagnose my car.
Great video as usual…After a sale is done the seller always feels he sold the car for to little and the buyer always feels he paid too much for the car 😂🚗
I always look forward to your weekly videos, Lyle!
Lyle, always really good info. I've always said something most folks ignore, and this holds true no matter what year your selling. A corvette that is as close to what it was when "New" sells the fastest. Only the seller despite, what he or she thought that putting in a big loppy cam and a 4:09 rear end differential and perhaps a graphics addition to the body, YOU thought that is the best thing you could do, BUT any perspective buyer . . . Doesn't. Any Corvette, no matter what or wherefore, sells for the most if it is as it was when new. People buying a Corvette want a plain clean canvas, so they can chose what it would look great in. And they may not think the $1200.00 cam job was a good idea, that was the seller idea, and they will just pass on it the moment it is started. Never think your chooses are welcome across the marketplace, cause their not ! Thanks again !
Agreed!
Well said. It's so much easier to repair a car that's been un-modded. Keeping a corvette like new isn't cheap no matter what year. But boy howdy it's so much easier when you don't have to run down a short due to some too cool stereo. Or misfire and poor running engine with some updated prom that you had no clue about. I get plug ins on OBT2 cars. It's easy to reset back to stock. Yup different strokes, different folks when it comes to mods. Even stock can be wacky, thank goodness for Lyle. A real great guy to whom I've asked for help and got it. I'm northwest coast so Corvette shops a few and far between. Since I have a 34-year-old Vett GM is useless. When that time comes to sell. I will have to reference this.
so true I stay clear of corvettes that have had the engines opened up or the motors swapped I want as original as possible. Those are the cars that are the easiest to sell as well.
@@robmunger922 with the factory using clean rooms for assembly, and white gloves to keep the skin oils from distorting the clearances on titanium or other tight clearances when things expand in heat, some say rebuilding a modern engine outside of those same factory protocols is impossible.
Another amazing video. I have sold 4 corvettes and bought 5 you are spot on with everything you said. One thing I have found both buying and selling is true corvette enthusiasts want the car to go to someone that will love it appreciate it maintain it and pass it on to another person that will do the same to keep the corvette sport alive. I bought a C3 from a father and daughter life changed for them and the car needed repairs but they loved the car while they had it and really wanted someone to bring it back to a good running condition. I was able to do that and I love the car. I sold a C4 that I restored a bit last fall and about a week ago the guy that bought it stopped by to show it to me he is doing an amazing job with the car that made me extremely happy. Thank you for what you do Lyle. 😮
Thanks for answering my questions this week - your deep knowledge and the shop at C&S Corvettes are the best - so glad you are close by in Florida- Thanks Lyle
Lyle, excellent video. I especially thought your point about buyers trying to bargain down the price based on what might happen to the car in the future. Sellers need to remind buyers that they're paying for the car as is, and not based on what might happen to it with a new owner. A car that will need new tires in two years does not justify asking the seller to reduce his price by $1,000!
Hey Lyle, I am a car nut, currently owning 4 classic cars including a 94 Corvette Coupe (I bought weatherstripping thru you for it) I have the Corvette, the third I’ve owned, a 2002 Thunderbird, a Jaguar XK8, and a Mustang. My philosophy of buying is to pick the best example of the car I want and can find and then expect to put six or eight grand into repairs. I don’t mind paying for quality and the cars or models of cars that I love are unavailable new. My Corvette cost me $15k to buy six years ago and I’ve put $6k into it so far. The same for the other cars. These cars are not looked at as monetary investments and when I no longer want one, I’ll sell it for whatever it’s worth or give it away. One day, twenty years from now, these cars, kept the way I will keep them, will likely be worth similar amounts as the C2s and XKEs are worth now. But, I probably won’t be driving then as I am an old fart now.
When are you going to show some love for the C-4s Lyle? Seems your shows are all about everyone but!
I've learned a lot from your channel I made a list of what I would settle for colors trim transmission and I stuck to it it was tempting to jump on a few that weren't really what I wanted I looked for almost 2 years until I found a one owner at a chevrolet dealership
I did the same thing making a list. It helped me focus my search. This spring I finally bought my C7. It took me 3 years of searching nearly every day, but it paid off well in the end!
All of us have had that "dream car" fantasy. We don't buy those kind because it's out of our reach, thus it's a "dream car". And prices have now made what was within our reach a few years ago, almost impossible to dream about today without getting depressed.
Extremely well done. Thank you for always providing great content.
Great video Lyle, I’m a new corvette buyer from Canada. You really bring common sense to the process. Thanks. Hope to make the trek to Carlisle in a couple weeks.
I thought the advice to set aside part of the purchase budget particularly strong. It really provides for some peace of mind , since you will be running into the stuff that provided the motivation to the owner to sell, since few people sell a car in perfect shape. most private sale used cars come with a measure of uncertainty, and a fettering budget is stress reducing.
Good advice. I will always gladly pay more for a Corvette with excellent service documentation; and obviously that is well cared for and loved; but only if it is, or easily can be, what I desire appearance wise. I am an enthusiast with the tools and skills to take care of most mechanical and electrical issues. If you try to buy an obviously good car at a discount price, you generally will lose.
Been scouring what’s out there nationwide for a couple months, gonna start drilling down on some choices here next week! I can’t wait, and this video I think will be helpful.
Can’t wait to bring my C6 in to see you while I visit this winter ( dad winters down in Nokomis).
Thanks for the video Lyle!
Love your channel. you sir are balanced in your approach to topics. Love it.
Sage advice. After buying eight Corvettes, one learns valuable lessons from both sides. Due diligence on both ends makes the process smooth. Forget what BJ and Mecum prices are too. Patience and keeping emotions in check help too.
Concise and well put presentation Lyle, thanks!
Oh boy, strap on your inner Evil Knievel for this gap!
I’ve seen asinine asking prices. But that’s the way it is with special cars like the Corvette.
Another great video Lyle 😊 Keep them coming. See you in the spring, for my routine maintenance on my C5.
Well spoken!Excellent!Very logical!Thanks!
Excellent advice! I’m currently looking to purchase a 93 40th Anniversary coupe with a 6-speed. Doing research is very important, and though I don’t want a show car, it won’t be a daily driver (I live north of Tampa, so I’m familiar with C&S). Thank you for your candor and quality content.
For sellers, the Corvette Value Distortion Field™ convinces sellers that their Corvettes are true, priceless collector's vehicles. In reality, most Vettes are nice cars ... that depreciate, because they are (brace yourself) just nice cars. That said, I have a '17 GS that is truly rare: It is Blade Silver with red heritage package, chrome badges, and it was made on a Thursday afternoon. I'm convinced that it is now worth well into six-figures. 😉 I wish. 😂
Always great information 👍
Great video Lyle! Everyone should have to watch this
Thank you for the info !!
I have a 1971 Red Convertible Corvette that has had a frame off restoration. It is not for sale but it can be had !!!
Excellent video!! Thanks!!
Another good video Lyle... but couldn;t you maybe take 15-30 seconds to tell us about the car/cars in the background?
I usually start off on NADA. The banks and insurance companies use that as the value plus they look at what cars have sold for in that area, not what people have asked for. You did a good job of explaining the logic that has to go into buying or selling.
Good advice as always!
All true. Thanks. I own a 2002 C5 and have bought a number of used cars in my long life. Number one, the most important thing I look for is the quality of a seller, primarily his address where he actually lives. If it's an upscale neighborhood I know he had the money to maintained the car and I'll gladly pay the top price. Thanks for your great work.
Everything is for sale, it’s just price that has to be negotiated 😊
Thanks as always
Great perspective 👍🏻
Thanks Lyell not buying or selling ! Just validating myself as a first time buyer 18 months ago ! I did pretty well. I set a budget with a ceiling of how high I would go for the right car.I ended up right at my budget number😀.
Well said, Lyle. As always great information. I am looking to sell my C4 Vert due to medical bills. I don't want top dollar necessarily, but I don't want to give it away either. This will help! Thanks!
Im just gonna have to drive my C7 there and visit you. I've been dying to get my hands on a good C3 and you always have the best advice.
I have a one owner C3 (yes I bought the car new) that is just coming out of mechanical review/service for the car. Quality driver that I want to find a good home. Also own a C7 (bought new) along with a couple of other really nice classic cars that I enjoy. C3 just isn't driven enough, why I'm looking for a good home for it. Let me know if you'd like to learn more about the car.
A wise man I worked with several years ago always said that the best deals are those in which both sides leave a little on the table.
i found that it was cheaper to buy a C4 at a dealer than from a private seller who "knows what he's got" and I was right. $6k for a 70,000 vette from a dealer.
Great advice only worth what someone will pay for it lot zte over priced for sure.⚡
Hopefully those that suffer the corvette buyer/seller syndrome see this. Great points, although I disagree with your point of not negotiating on price for future common repairs that haven’t yet been done. If the harmonic balancer hasn’t been done yet on a 80k mile c5, I’d absolutely factor that into the price of the car before purchasing. In that instance, if you the buyer really want the car although you know it’s most likely going to need a future repair, I’d suggest the seller to deduct half the cost of the repair, that way the buyer and seller meet each other atleast half way
👍
I've had a couple corvettes, and i really want another. However, the buying and selling process is such a pain in the ass with your typical corvette people that's it's literally the only reason i haven't actually started shopping them.
I remember seeing a sign on in front of a Corvette at a car show saying it had never been WET. Is that even possible?
Love Corvettes and the car community but some people are strange.
Always good info on the channel! Quick question about a problem I’m having that seems to have multiple fixes but nothing seems definitive. At random times my car will lock the drivers side front tire and then throw a code of 1289H which is the yaw sensor error. I started out by having the local GM dealership try to fix it but the recommended a new battery so I installed a new Optima Red Top and went six days with no issues until this morning I got the service active handling code. Later it was fine and had no error message. Do you have a definitive fix or know of a process to go through? Thanks for any help or direction. And thank you for providing us with all the information you do weekly!!
What year is the car?
@@csvette 2004 coupe automatic
Now it’s throwing 1282 code as well. Went through manual diagnostic and reset it before the light went away. Ugh
454 behind 2mirros what year
This video is wicked spooky. The timing is scary. Why? Two-days ago I put in an order for a 2023 C8. I have a 2011 C6. I will be selling the C6 over the time waiting for my new C8. Thanks for this very timely video. Anybody want a C6?
Curious, what your asking and which trim package
@@caddymac6917 Its a 1LT blk on blk with NPP, Upgraded Breaks, HUD, and updated headlights. Very well maintained...like new about 65K miles.
This probably isn't the right video to place this comment, but it's the most recent.I have the opportunity to trade my 2012 shelby gt500 with many tasteful mods for astock 2007 c6 z06 straight across. The vette is la man's blue with black interior LT3. Both cars have low miles. I test drove the vette and loved it, very hard to compare with the shelby, as they are drastically different. I am leaning towards the vette but have a couple of concerns. The vette has a new motor as it experienced the valve drop issue. I'm having a really hard time finding out if the new motor from GMC came with the valve issue sorted out from the factory or if I will need to have that taken care of. I've heard of ls7 equipped 2015 camaros experiencing the valve drop issue. Would you know if GMC has sorted this problem out for replacement motors? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I am not aware of GM "solving" the problem on any of the LS7's from the factory. Talk to Katech Engineering directly about your situation and see what they have to day about it. They know better than anyone else in my opinion. Lyle
@@csvette thanks for the quick reply, I'll try that
"Remove emotions" . Hah, never happen.!! Ever.
Love your videos. Not this one. I have been in sales at a few dealerships and yes you run into some people that use strange logic for their prices, but its not that often. Everybody has access to KBB or other guides so they know the relative value at retail or wholesale. They will be unreasonable sometimes and think they should get the top retail number... but again not that often.
It was the video out of focus from time to time or I need a pair of glasses?
IT was. We shot it with me slightly off to the side to make room for the math visuals and the camera kept focusing on the car behind me when I moved my head. Live and learn! :) Lyle
Hi Lyle, I've got a 1996 Grand Sport coupe with 24400 on the odometer. Bone stock and everything works. Basically, it's in showroom condition. I'm asking 45k. Fair price?
IMO yes very fair price...I've seen them go for more.
If you don’t wanna pay, then just go away !
Both corvettes I got for a good deal because I bought them from people that were not into corvettes some corvette guys and almost all dealers over priced these cars really bad especially the c5 and c6
Never met a Corvette owner that wasn't a complete tool......
President Brandon would whoop your ass if he heard you talking that way. He took on Corn Pop, so you would be a pushover......
Sorry but be realistic bottom line . Any car is only worth what it's value is at the time of the sale . This may be at whatever the market currently is doing .
Maintenance is part of ownership and adds nothing to the value . So only pay for what the vehicle is worth in its current condition not what it would be if it was the best it could be .
So be smart with your purchase . Buyers can get so overwhelmed they pay way to much for what they bought . Don't be that person . You really need to set a limit and stick to it .
Deals can be had . That requires luck and having cash then to make the purchase . Yes forget emotions . Those will not do you any favors . If you don't know what your looking at I caution you to get schooled or take someone with you who is well adversed in the year / model . Someone who can help you keep those emotions in check so you don't over pay .
