    I've had friends who have chosen to be encrypted in a similar mausoleum because they wanted to be above ground. Before they passed, I warned them not to do so because given enough time, they will be exposed to the elements above ground which are much more destructive than even those below ground. But they went through with their plans. What is really disturbing about this video is that even though those caskets are obviously decaying big time and obviously also the human remains; these caskets do not appear to be that old. They are definitely from the modern age, at most 50 to 75 years old. If this is what can happen within a lifetime, what is the point of even putting a person in a casket at all?

      As a Christian myself, I am not to concerned on how I am buried. Like anything on earth my body will eventually decay. I want a viewing in a cheap casket (please take any organs or tissue you can) then they can put me in a retort and turn me to carbon. For my spirit will be with the Lord because of his mercy (not my works)/ I find it a waste of money to spend thousands of dollars on a deluxe casket. BTW anyone who tried to sell you a air tight cakset is scamming you. When its air tight the gasses will build up and damage the casket. Not trying to be graphic, but it is true.

    I don't see why people are so upset, you did nothing disrespectful. People go into cemeteries all the time and take pictures and video. This is a great education piece, it shows what happens when a burial ground is left to rot. If the living don't take care of the dead, this is what happens.....Very nicely done, thank you for sharing.

      +Tumaramarie Steinbach Which is it, then? Educational or disrespectful? Almost every comment on this video expresses disgust at how people have no disrespect for the mausoleum and have recklessly broken into the coffin over many years. However, you state THIS particular instance is an "educational piece." What makes this video so different than previous break-ins? Maybe we can look at cemetery laws to get clarification, the state government office might be interested in this video.
      "If the living don't take care of the dead, this is what happens...." Perhaps a better education can be had by helping to restore the mausoleum and learn WHY the cemetery is in this state to begin with. The commenter below is right, this was done only to get a "cool" video. Other than it's rotting (duh? don't all graves rot at various degrees? this isn't something unique), I personally haven't learned anything more about this place from watching this video.

      This is so shameful to any religion. I see a whole crap load of Bad Karma for whoever did this going down every generation until they either fix it or apologize or return what was stolen. Nobody just opens up coffins for no reason. They must have had some kind of money or were buried with rings or valuables. Nobody has respect for anything anymore not even the Dead. Like one person said everything is disposable to people nowadays whether it's animals ,humans, or the dead. They take their trash and throw it inside the donation bins or plain throw it on the side of the road. People need to wake up and have some morals about themselves. One thing you NEVER do is mess with the Dead. You want to talk about malevolent Spirits there you go. Every one of them will be searching and hunting for whoever did this to their bodies and final resting place. Where did our morals and standards go to in society? I'd love to know that. It seems over the last 10 years they've just gone out the window. Nobody cares to open a door for someone who is handicapped. They can't bother themselves to an extra 2 minutes with helping someone less fortunate into a door. All they have to do is open the door they don't have to touch the person if they're a germaphobe. It's like people have forgotten how to be human and have lost all humanity and compassion. Including the ones who steal your mail or packages. This is why everybody has cameras now. Smh this is so sad and sickening to see.

      The one thing I wonder about is the shape of these caskets in, rusted, holes in them, the lids popped open or, no lid at all, who would want to steal a dead, decaying, rotting body from a casket like this? And folks, this also goes to show you that even though you are sent off incase inside a metal casket, just like an old car sitting in a junkyard, the metal begins to weaken and disintegrate, as you have all seen. You kinda wonder, or pretty much already know, that the body that's inside it has more or less has already been pretty much disintegrated. Very sad, as we all know that this is whare we all will be going in the future, even the scriptures of the Bible has pointed that out. We all, rich and poor, are in a terrible state of despair, and there is nothing now at the moment that we can do to change any of this.

      That's all just hocus-pocus horseshit. Graves are simply a waste of real estate. How does it make any sense to assign a piece of land to a dead person forever and ever, putting him in a steel casket inside a concrete vault that stays around for centuries? Eventually, people will forget about that person and that grave will fall into disrepair. But you're right about one thing, cremation is far preferable. Or natural burial, where the body is just wrapped in a simple cloth or perhaps even composted to allow for faster decomposition.

      My family has a cemetery near Lake Romeo. The church was built in 1912 by my 2x great grandfather. The nearby lake is named for him. Once a year we get together to clean things up & concentrate on repairs. The church got a new tin roof last year. We take pride in our family history. The stories we tell. Well, you can imagine. My 2x great-grandfather was 6'4". He built his own coffin. After 20 years or so he decided to check it out to see if he was going to fit. He put on a few pounds & got stuck in his coffin. He cried for help and my great uncles responded. Getting him out of there. He made the adjustments and has been residing in it comfortably since 1956. A few months shy of his 50th anniversary. Spent 30 yrs farming in the states before immigrating to Canada in 1907. Brought most of his family with him. Left behind 3 grown daughters who were married and had kids of their own. My family takes pride in their roots. We honor those who went before us.

There is a hall near the Cemetery called Romeo, Tiger Lilly, Glenistor Hall. He donated part of his land to the community so other families could always access the lake for water and fish. Therfore the Hall has part of his name. He ended up selling his land during the 40's when WW11 Broke our. He donated the money to the war effort & bought a smaller piece of land for himself as a widower. He left big boots to fill. Larger than life, a real man's man, looked after his family of 13 (3 lost in childbirth) and his neighbors. He treated everyone equal. I grew up on hardwork and dedication. The fact is that cemeteries aren't forever. There simply isn't enough available land for everyone to get a full body burial and have that space protected forever. In many countries bodies are removed after a few decades. The remains are then pooled together with others and the burial vault re-used. Cemeteries themselves fall into disuse and are disregarded. In my hometown many churches are losing members. As a result they are consolidating and selling buildings. Including buildings that at one time maintained graves. The remains are removed and condos are put up where the churches and cemeteries had been.

    • @paintedbird
      @paintedbird Před 8 lety +1

      I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't make it right. Also there is a big difference between someone having to relocate remains in a respectful way, if absolutely necessary, compared to people going into a cemetery or mausoleum and causing damage to the property and it's contents just because they can and they feel like being destructive.

      It's much more likely to be robbed for the human skulls than for jewels. Occultists will pay a lot of money for the skulls and long bones in particular. This is an excellent video that explains too well why mausoleums should be abolished completely. The "5% of the sale" law for the perpetual endowment of a mausoleum clearly isn't being adhered to as there's currently hundreds of mausoleum facilities in the YSA which are or are about to be abandoned along with the human remains inside. The local government may step in and lock them up, but that's when the skull hunters and bone robbers break in. How many times does this scenario need to be repeated before owners and managers of mausoleums become much more accountable for their actions?

    Awful what people do. There are no names there either?? Probably there are no Family members left,and people today would not know any of the dead there. Those are very old caskets and that mausoleum is very old too. Local authorities should just go in and remove all those caskets, and rip the place down. All these problems are from a time when massive amounts of expensive jewelry and items of worth were left on the deceased such as very expensive mink coats etc. That won't happen today.
    I worked for a mortuary back in the day to help pay for College. It did not bother me. But what did bother me was some of the requests of items Families would want left on a body, or that "Funeral Homes" would try and get you to but a very high priced casket that was very tightly sealed to keep the dead looking beautiful forever. Not true.It turns into a pressure cooker that, with no air will eventually explode the lid right off, or blow the lid up,and open (even underground). And, I hate Mausoleums. Have you ever walked through one and the foul air of embalming fluid will almost knock you over. These places should be banned. A family crypt is even more accessible for thieves or vandalism. There are many bad people today, who have no regard or respect for anything, let alone a deceased's final resting place.
    I am thinking of a green Funeral or cremation when my time comes. And no viewing.
    I love your videos and try and watch them all. You do a great job. This should certainly be an eye opener for those even considering a mausoleum burial.

      The city wouldn't tear it down seeing as Evergreen is a historic cemetery. They are currently trying to get donations and volunteers to help clean restore the cemetery since it's fallen into such disrepair. If you are or you know anyone in the Richmond area that would want to help them you could check out their website. Seeing the dead being disrespected like this makes me so upset so I'll definitely be volunteering when I get the chance.
      *Edit: I also agree with you Drew, the funeral industry is broken. It's disturbing see so many "wholesome family owned funeral homes" charge grieving families so much money for extra services that are unnecessary. I've seen families who have been forced to pay for embalming services in order for them to view the body even in the case of a direct cremation. It's sad and disturbing and that's one of the main reasons why I aspire to be a part of or own my own natural burial funeral home someday.

      Can we ask where this was so it can be reported? Also, I'm trying to keep track of the number and whereabouts of abandoned/crumbling mausoleums in the USA in defense of my debate argument that mausoleums are not a permanent solution for the disposal of our dead. People are selling vaults for$200,000 in some of the prestige mausoleums around the country!! These places are enormous, but I believe that privately owned mausoleums should be completely outlawed and only municipal cemeteries allowed because people abuse the funds promised for perpetual endowment, and when they go bust they just walk away ... you can't make MORE money from dead people, and unless they build em like the Pyramids, no building is going to last more than 200 years in a cold climate that has to deal with Summer temperatures as well. Duhh!!

  • @NoPastNoFate
    @NoPastNoFate Před 2 lety +1

    This is what happens when cemeteries are run as for profit businesses rather than public goods. They get neglected and abandoned when the business, inevitably, fails. Often these cemeteries only last a few decades before neglected. This is particularly true for mausoleums which require constant upkeep and maintenance.

  • @snorky500
    @snorky500 Před 5 lety +2

    Since the recession, many places like this have gone out of business. In most states the law states that the families should remove the remains in these situations. Judging by the age of the caskets (rusting and totally deteriorated) the next of kin were probably never found, hence forgotten about. But still this is something that should be brought to a local news channel. This is just crazy.

      It's a known fact, that satanists will remove body parts for rituals. There was a artist here in North Carolina that would put enough of a skull in his artwork to see what it was.... He would never fess up to where the bones came from. Hell, I went to the Raleigh Flea Market at he fairgrounds one weekend a few years ago - and someone was selling a skull. Little inch wide hole on one side and a 5 inch hole on the other side - like they were shot in the head. I asked the seller if that was a Civil War skull and they walked away from me. It should be COMPLETELY illegal to sell body parts like that. Word to the wise, bodies that were embalmed during the civil war were embalmed with arsenic.... Do NOT touch them or have them in your home. Arsenic doesn't degrade over time.

    Some cultures keep their dead and parade them around yearly... the dead do not feel, they do not judge, they do not care. Everyone that walks the catacombs in Paris likes the experience and no one says diddly about it. We who are left alive will die as well and would LOVE to be remembered. I do not mind if someone makes homage to my bones by showing me off to the world when the world has forgotten I existed. Kudos for the video and for not desecrating the tombs.

  • @vincetravis8701
    @vincetravis8701 Před 8 lety +1

    Reminds me of a cemetery down the road from me. The town it belonged to doesn't exist anymore. The weird thing is that they pulled out a bunch of tombstones and made a road straight through the middle of the cemetery. They said many years ago that they moved the coffins to the graves, but that was discovered to be a lie when the road wore so thin that our vehicle fell into a casket under the road. (it was a dirt road, so erosion was bound to happen)
    I feel like I'm the only one who even cares about it anymore. People will take their trucks and burn their tires on the property, so there is barely any grass on the area. I would try to fix the broken and sunk tombstones the best I can. Sadly, I can't save all of them. There is even trees growing into the graves! It saddens me.

Not only that it must have taken a lot of work and time to go through stone and to move those coffins. I doubt it was worth the effort if the vandals/thieves were looking for jewelry as the jewelry worn by the deceased during the viewing is often removed. To do so would be to continue a long series of desecrations. To enter, poke around, and in the process disturb articles within the crypt for the sake of a few minutes of video, as you did, and then to offer no context in the body of your work, is deeply disrespectful and inhumane. This is tragedy porn. The people laid to rest their matter. Their stories, their humanity account for more than this grisly series of clips.

    Can't the deceased and their descendants have any peace and respect without people continuously *climbing into* this mausoleum to take pictures/videos? There are nearly 60 acres of additional neglect at this cemetery. And, filming human remains? Come on, man. Let's not add to the further desecration of this tomb. Abandon Virginia is better than this.

    People can't leave nothing alone, not even the dead can rest.

    What a shame, to see how things have not been taken care of and people stealing from the dead.

    Wow! Amazing and creepy! I wonder how old those coffins were or how long that place has been there?

      +Jake Drew I forgot the exact age - I did read that it was first broken into sometime in the 1970s.

    I would hate to think that this could happen to one of my loved ones graves. Both of my parents will be in the veterans cemetery, and I hope that this country will always revere its veterans.

    While I'm not denying the likelihood of grave robbers, it's not unheard of for families to have their deceased relatives moved. This could have just as easily been arranged by family members who wanted their relatives moved from what appears to be an isolated and unkept cemetery.
