So that Tesla is a 40k repair when that’s all (if they are lucky) the cars worth…so insurance WOULD write that off.
Little bit misleading this segment guys
Yeah wtf was that? 35k to 40k damage for rear qtr repair. Wtf? My 19 corolla just had the exact same accident and i think it was around the 7k mark. 35k repair, then that car is a write off ...
@@smdnsnnd7254 Played the bit where he said the price and it was sort of mumbled. Yikes that is expensive. Wouldn't be much point repairing the car.
And yet, insurance premiums are almost double compared to a normal ICE vehicle. Some might say it's expensive if the battery is damaged, but that will likely be a write-off anyway, just like an ICE car with a damaged engine, so that should go back to the value of the insured amount :(
This one definitely feels like a soft marketing.
Tesla model y insured with nrma $1100
2022 Model 3 performance. 40yo male Insured for $93,000 (value is important here) with nrma for $1550. So if you look at a $50,000 car for $800 how is it any more expensive when you do the math?
People are just uneducated on the truth and are scared of change.
What this highlights to me is the importance of having comprehensive car insurance. I got a quote for a Model Y and it is actually less than for a 2010 Prado. Around $1500AUD a year. If a minor side impact or rear impact costs $40k to repair, then you just gotta have insurance. After hearing what the mechanic was saying about BMW and Mercedes, I'd think twice before purchasing those brands.
Good to see a balanced report involving Tesla.
Wow. A fair and balanced story. Good work.
Just got a Model Y, and I've found insurance is between 2k to 4.4k. You gotta shop around. My old 2013 CX5 insurance is close to $1700 for this year. Everything is going up recently.
In term of driving experience, one pedal driving just makes sense. The EV will try to conserve as much energy as possible by stopping --> stationary (regen braking). Think of Newton's First law when you drive a Tesla.
I wonder why this video is "Unlisted"?
We run our videos at different times on our website and CZcams. This video was first available to watch on Drive.com.au before moving from unlisted to public on YT.
Not certain on the repair costs, as my insurance covered this, however after an accident in our Model Y it took 7 months for a plastic trim to arrive before our approved Tesla repairer could fix our car. Hence parts may be an issue.
Could you drive it or was it held up for 7 months off the road???
In my opinion, $35-40k of damage to a $55k car is a write-off.
Sounds like pre loaded questions with a particular narrative to deliver to make me ask is this even legit...
Thanks for taking the time to watch. Our consumer team aims to answer the questions most commonly asked by car buyers and owners, and this is one of them. There's no 'particular narrative' of any kind at play. It's simply an area people want to know more about.
I have had my own experience with a Tesla repair and it was no different to any other repair I have had done. Most Tesla parts are in ready supply and at a reasonable price. However, there are some other Chinese Manufacturers who have woeful parts supply processes, and not just for electric cars. A wait of two to four months for a rear quarter is not unusual.
Thank you. This is a very good video - it is helpful to hear the opinions of someone who does repairs cars for a living. My one suggestion would be to support the anecdotal expert opinion with some data. At the end of the day, insurance companies simply crunch numbers to determine premiums. According to the online insurance estimation tools, a Tesla Model Y is around 3-4x more expensive to insure than a RAV4 Cruiser. A Model 3 is similarly more expensive than a Camry (although a whole lot more desirable I suspect). Perhaps I should benchmark against Mercedes / BMW?
Good review leaves insurance companies with egg on their face saying they’re more expensive to repair.
A well done interview. Learnt a few things.
My brother in law sold his Model 3 as his insurance went from $1,600 to $4,000 in 2 years
More to that story than you know or are letting on.
Ive had my Model 3 LR for 3 years now, same house, same insurer, 50yr old , agreed value, $500 excess.
$1058 first year RAC
$1200 2nd year RAC
$1400 3rd year RAC.
Only claim was $100 excess for a window replacement due to stone chip.
I run a transport company with 7 different vehicles, I think the Tesla is actually the cheapest to insure.
Pity he didn’t shop around. I got 5 quotes ranging from $4000 with budget direct down to $1280 with CBA insurance. The others were in-between.
Nice work Drive, sadly I can say 3rd party reversed into my model 3 - bonnet & bumper were around $600 ea plus paint and labor from memory.
Wow $35,000 to $40,000 to repair the Tesla with damage to the rear panels. I can buy a Camry brand new off the dealer lot for that kind of money and still have change to spare.
Great commercial for Tesla.. drive at it again

@@Drivecomauwell how about being honest about the real risks and environmental damage done when these fucking batteries go into thermal runaway. No you won’t will you? People ARE actually waking up to this EV bullshit.
If he's an authorised repairer, only a fool wouldn't be sceptical
Great informative video. Like it…
Sounds like an ad for Tesla. Go and ask US rental car companies and why they ditched the majority of Teslas they were using. Reason, they take longer to obtain parts for and off the road for longer periods therefore less rental revenue while resale value is shite.
Not sure about cleaner long term
It's all well and good for having damaged Tesla sitting around his work shop untill one of them goes into thermal runaway, then he can pretty much say goodbye to his business.
Wow
Took mercedes 6 months for me to get a window replaced
Gone tesla never going bak
And when u compare the warranty claim events vs other EVs there is no comparison... Talking bout you BYD
Can't tell if this is an infomercial for Tesla or for that bald man's repair business.
So if he says Tesla is crap and too expensive to repair, then you think it is real news. If he says Tesla is not bad and not too expensive to repair, then it is just an advertisement for Tesla or his repair business. Biased aren’t we?

But you are not comparing Tesla's with a Toyota, Mazda or Hyundai. You are comparing repair cost with BMW'S, Mercedes and even he said a Porsche!@@Drivecomau
@@simo7321Yes, because Tesla’s sit closer to BMWs than Hyundai’s in terms of quality and the people who buy them
@@MitchPhillips I wouldn't say quality more.like purchase price
