It’s really fun to go over this years after having watched the anime. They each have 10 to 20 effects and are so stupidly broken. Obelisk: Tribute two cards to make my attack infinity (WTF?!). Why did Pegasus even make these cards? (Or was there some other anime explanation for them).

@@vullord666 They play a big role in the anime, the spirits of the egyptian gods disturbed pegasus even before they created them, so we can interpret that they're actual gods who existed for a long time, since their power transcends the game itself there could be only a copy of each, and Pegasus buried them. So they're made to be broken, not to be played with.

Should also be noted that in the 5D's anime, the Norse God's are real Gods. Odin, Loki and Thor. They are also God cards like Ra, Slifer and Obelisk. Unlike the real printings of them, which aren't Divine Beast.

I wouldn't call the Meklord Emperors better in the anime since the individual parts are useless on their own and blow up if there isn't an Emperor in play, and aside from Granel, the Emperors on their own have no ATK or DEF and no effects aside from the Synchro snatching. So that's five garnets you're putting into your deck per Emperor, which is awful for consistency when you don't have anime draw luck since the only way to get all five parts onto the field consistently is to play a specific level 1 monster and then blow it up with a card effect, unlike the actial card game's Meklord Emperors which only take up one space in your deck and only require you to destroy any one of your monsters with a card effect (fairly doable since people were still running things like Dark Hole and Mirror Force back when they were first printed).
Oh, and let's not forget that the anime characters that used them have upgraded Meklord parts, which have to be played by *sending the base part to the Graveyard from the field,* so literally at least a quarter of their deck is made up of cards that can't directly be played on their own. Realistically, Yliaster would have lost against Team 5D's by bricking if they didn't have the power of plot convenience.

Also When yugi destroyed Gurimo's Obelisk
Also this youtuber made their effects from his mind at some point then if their effects were like this how yugi defeated all the god cards then?
You would say he reflected their own power to them but isnt Ra unaffected by slifer effect how it was destroyed by slifer in the ceremonial duel in yugioh?
Ra only cant be destroyed while in phoenix mode and the other 2 gods can be destroyed read the wiki about them
Also i tried in ygopro and they can be destroyed by non-divine hierarchy monsters except for divine hierarchy of lower that means a divine hierarchy of 1 can be destroyed by battle by almost any monster with higher attack points than him a monster with divine hiersechy of 2 which is Ra cannot be destroyed by Slifer or Obelisk read the cards right non-divine hierarchy monsters are not considered as divine hierarchy monsters
The Gods say in their text "this card cannot be destroyed with a monster with lower divine hierarchy" that means only monsters that in their text have a divine hierarchy of 0 which does not exist nor in anime nor in real life cannot destroy Obelisk or Slifer only Ra has some kind of protection against other Gods in terms of being destroyed by battle
The only protection they have against your opponent is they are unaffected by card effects and they cannot leave the field
Also Yugi's Ground erosion targeted Obelisk and it was the 2nd turn after Obelisk was summoned wasnt supposed Obelisk to be unaffected by any card effect after the turn it was summoned?
Then how Ground Erosion affected Obelisk?

    Three things
    1. Regarding Slifer's effect on ATK decrease, it happened whenever a monster appeared on your opponent's field, through control switch, summon, anything.
    2. The 21st anime effect of The Winged Dragon of Ra was that it could attack directly in Phoenix mode, regardless of the fact that it has 0 ATK in said form.
    3. I think Revival Jam should be on this list. Its TCG real life effect was that when it died, it was summoned to it's owner's field in defense, or attack position, I can't remember, it doesn't matter, but to do this, you'd have to pay 1000 LP in your Standby Phase. It's anime effect was that it revived immediately, without any LP cost. Coupled with Jam Defender (forces your opponent's monsters to only attack revival Jam, provided you actually had it on the field), this was a really good combo.
    I like your lists BTW.
Although, for the record, I think the Winged Dragon of Ra is the best god card, cause of all the support cards, like Ancient Chant, The True Name, etc, etc.

To be fair, the reason Golden Castle of Stromberg's effects are so bloody OP in the anime was because Siegfried illegally hacked the card and even erratta'd the card to have some of the broken effects. He even gave it a virus effect that was supposed to completely corrupt and erase all of KaibaCorps' data, and it's virus effect couldn't be cancelled out simply by ending the duel. The only reason Yugi was able to get rid of the card altogether, and thus killing its virus effect, was because he was no longer able to pay the maintenance cost by that point since he only had one card left in his deck.
The irony is that the real life TCG version of that card is actually much faithful to what the anime version of the card was supposed to do. So the fact that the real life version of that card was "nerfed" from the anime counterpart makes sense since the anime version of the card was hacked into doing things that it wasn't even supposed to do.

I agree with the comments saying they should remake the Egyptian God Cards IRL and set up a divine beast archetype. Since the God Cards are my favorite monsters I would love to construct a deck around them to utilize all three of the monsters. However with the God Cards being what they are right now, it just doesn't make sense to do that.
That's one thing that bothers me about the game: they nerf or screw up particular cards from the anime. There are a lot of cards from the shows that I would love to use IRL, but can't because of this issue. I'm not saying some cards should retain their overpowered abilities from the show, but they also don't need to be so nerfed to a ridiculous degree either.

While i can understand the obvious amount of nerf Ra got, i always felt confused for the removal of the "gaining the combined ATK/DEF points of monsters tributed" since it was a decent middle point from Obelisk and Slifer. This card can either take its time to come out so you can make it an OP card eventually, or get it soon but it's weaker due to the monsters involved, which would force you to use your life points instead.

    • @Envy_May
      @Envy_May Před rokem

that's also basically the whole main POINT of ra's ability that all its other abilities are themed around - the one that they decided to keep where you tribute your own life points to increase ra's atk and def points was originally a hidden ability which was meant to be an _extension_ of its main gimmick being that it takes all its atk and def from whatever is tributed to it

Here’s a few more cards that could have made the list:
•Sabatiel - The Philosopher’s Stone (player by Jaden). Normal spell card
TCG: it’s effect let’s you search for a “fusion” card or “polymerization” by paying half your life points. Then, if you have 3 copies in your discard, banish them and select a monster you control. It gains attack equal to the strongest monster on the field.
Anime: pay half your life points to search your deck for any card then return this card to your hand. You may use this effect up to 3 times. After the third time, this card becomes an equip card where the equipped monsters attack is multiplied by the number of monsters your opponent controls.
Call of the Haunted (played by Bonez) continuous trap card
TCG: special summon one monster from your GY. It’s destroyed if this card is destroyed.
Anime: (spell card) special summon as many monster as you can from your GY. They’re treated as Zombie-type monsters. If they were to be destroyed, they are not and they gain 500 attack permanently. (Note this is only for season 1 of the original series. GX has the card played normally as a continuous trap).
Graceful/Skull Dice (player by Joey) quickplay spell/trap card
TCG: Roll a dice, for graceful dice, your monsters attacks are increased by 100 times the number you rolled. Skull dice, your opponents monsters are reduced by 100 times the number rolled.
Anime: roll a dice, for graceful dice, your monsters attacks are multiplied by the number you rolled. Only works for monsters with 500 attack or less. Skull dice, your opponents monsters are divided by the number rolled.

I remember reading somewhere that the Manga the show is based on predates the TCG. Meaning that there was a time when Yugioh was just a show/Manga and the card game was merely the fictitious Duel Monsters. Hence the wild logic behind the anime's rules as opposed to the actual TCG.

thought everyone knew this. Yu Gi Oh is originally a manga about Yugi, possesed by Yami, kills around people using a variety of games but with a dark twist. Eventually he fights Seto Kaiba, whose death game is the fictitious Duel Monsters, which Kaiba is a fanatic about. Readers wanted to know more about this game, so the manga continued but with Duel Monsters as the focus. The Anime adaptation ignored the death game thing that came before; the first episode of the anime is the seventh chapter of the manga. The first six chapters are colloquially known as "Season Zero".

This card gains ATK equal to all Timelords on the field (except Sephylon the Ultimate Timelord). If this card would be destroyed by battle or effect, you can banish 1 face-up Timelord instead, also, if you negate this card's destruction by battle, negate all Battle Damage.
TCG : Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Cannot be Special Summoned (except from your hand by having 10 monsters in your Graveyard.) Once per turn, you can Special Summon 1 Level 8 or higher Fairy-type monster from your hand or Graveyard, but its effects are negated, and change its ATK to 4000.

Skull Dice was a card that would've been broken if the anime affect carried over to the TCG. In the TCG, the attack points of the opposing monster were subtracted by 100 xs whatever number the dice landed on. So the best you could hope for was lowering a monsters attack points by 600. But in the anime, the attack points of the opposing monster were divided by whatever the number the dice landed on. So basically with the anime affect, as long as the dice doesn't land on a 1, you're guaranteed to cut the attack points of the opposing monster by at least half.

First, Stromberg. Even in the anime it is explicitly explained, that a lot of these effects are added by Sieg when he hacked into the KC computer, so technically the anime Stromberg card is a bit different from what you described. For example the maintanance is to be payed by the player originally.
Second, Skydragon Osiris: It CAN be destroyed by battle with other than monster cards, as Malik goes out of his way to protect Osiris in his duel with Yami. Otherwise, Buster Blader would've killed Osiris. Also, I think he does take battle damage.
Same with Obelisk basically. It CAN be targeted, Yami does so in the first battle of the Waking the Dragons arc, where he targets Obelisk with Brave Soul, and destroys it with Gamma the Magnet Warrior.

Some cards that were powerful in the anime compared to their TCG release that weren’t in this video.

Silent Honor ARK. The anime version detaches 1 material instead of 2, doesn't restrict you to face-up attack special summoned monsters, doesn't target and, on top of that, it has that "cannot be destroyed by battle except with "Number" monsters" clause.

@@Agreel I am gonna put also Dark Rebellion Xyz dragon as debatable "Worse" in anime and "Better" anime. you could use its effect twice per turn in anime (you only needed to detach 1 xyz unit). the catch? it only worked in monsters level 5 or higher monsters. So take that as you wish, ebcause wetlands beatdown could still beat dark rebellion easily

This is why Ra had two other versions in the form of Sphere Mode and Phoenix Mode. It's so strong that it needed to have other versions of the card just to draw out much of Ra's abilities from the anime.
