      As a fellow huge be’lakor fan I highly recommend checking out the album “the frozen trail” by hollow decay. I think it’s just 1 guy from Australia who recently released his first album, completely blew me away. As a huge be’lakor fan that album really scratched some of the itch be’lakor does.

    Nice, haven't properly listened to these guys in a couple of years. Some of my favourite riffs found on this album and its successor.
    Yep you might want to dig up the lyrics for this, Be'lakor tend to tell short stories in their songs that adds some character to them that might otherwise be lacking in the vocals. That was my experience anyway.

  • @MaraxisArcanist
    @MaraxisArcanist Před 2 lety +5

    Jim, I can't tell you how excited I am to see this on the channel! 😀
    I wasn't sure if you'd use it or not since I know some of your viewers aren't fans of harsh vocals.
    I'm glad you picked up on those Maiden-esque gallops they use on a lot of melodies. I think it's fair to say they've been an influence on Be'lakor. They also list Alcest, a French metal band amongst their influences.
    Not sure if you intend to get through all of this or not (still watching!) but you owe it to yourself to check out Countless Skies for sure. The highlight of the album.

    • @MaraxisArcanist
      @MaraxisArcanist Před 2 lety +1

      No demonic sacrifices of maidens on this album! 🤣
      The overarching theme is mostly about passing time, impermanence and mortality. Best expressed in Outlive the Hand, which is seemingly about a statue that has outlasted the hand that created it, and the people who used to visit in the gardens. Countless Skies also speaks to that theme in stone's ability to exist through untold years (skies) before even it to must succumb to the passage of eons.
      If you're interested in checking out more of their work, all their albums are good, imo. They just released a new one called Coherence last fall, so it should be readily available still.

      @@richardigglesden8193 Yeah, I get it for sure. Harsh vocals aren't for everyone!
      I don't disagree that some contrasting vocals might elevate them, but this is what they're known for. I do like mixed vocals, like Draconian does. The deep throaty growls contrasting with the ethereal female vocals is captivating.

    I always quite like how this music takes you to a place somewhere between the album covers Blackwater park and still life. Misty; creepy and murky. This also brings in the phrygian feel with sand and pyramids. Wrong place to sidestep but I have noticed Mark Kelly's Marathon have live performances on you tube. 2051 is really good. Best Peter gabrielesque vocals out there.

    While you're on the Aussie band train, I'd highly recommend Cog. They are a fantastic rock band with light prog elements. They kicked off a very popular period in Aussie alt rock, with The Butterfly Effect, Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus, to be followed later by Caligula's Horse.
