    Alpha's been working out for THIRTY YEARS - in basements, garages, and gyms. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro says his body is his temple, and the gym is his church. And he adds that if you want to join him, you have to act accordingly!
    STOP the GYM Ignorance! Don't Be a Douche
    1. Re-rack weights and dumbbells
    2. Don't hog the equipment
    3. Wear gym appropriate attire
    4. Stop taking selfies!
    5. Wipe down sweaty equipment
    6. Don't slam or drop dumbbells by maintaining control
    7. Absolutely do NOT make fun of anyone. Offer help instead.

    Love number 7, coming from a small guy who is just learning to workout I totally agree with this one. And to all the big guys, or any guys at all, you have no idea how much a simple "hey, hows it going", head nod and smile, or offering to spot someone who looks like they may be struggling for a quick set can really help. I tried my very first bench press last week and as soon as I lifted the bar I realized I couldn't push it back up off my chest and I had put on too much weight. I was so embarrassed and had no clue what to do. A couple people noticed and laughed to their friends or tried to take a sneaky Snapchat. I was immediately ready to never come back to the gym after that. Thankfully one of the big body builders comes over and helps me out. Helped lighten the mood with some jokes and words of encouragement. He even taught me the proper form for bench press and a few tips to have more effective and safe workouts so a situation like mine wouldn't happen to me again. I really doubt he knows how much of a big deal that was to me. Had he not have done that I don't know I could've came back to the gym or at least not during the day anymore. You don't have to babysit new people at the gym by any means, but a quick hello and a handshake (maybe even some advice if applicable) to someone who looks nervous or new can go a long way.

  • @zohar9613
    @zohar9613 Před 6 lety +15

    Tip 7 is the most important, when I first went to the gym I thought people would glare at me and instead I found out most gym going dudes are supportive and will help you and encourage you to workout because all of them have been where you are.

  • @scsstudios
    @scsstudios Před 5 lety +3

    1. YES.
    I could not agree with the re racking thing more. If you can pump a 30-50 lb weight 30 or 40 times, you can put it back. End of story.
    As somebody who is currently working on transforming from belly to Beast, I appreciate the remark about not making fun of people who are on their way.

  • @sasukekakashi008

    The last one totally true! I just started going to the gym regularly this year and one of the big things I think about is what other people would think.. but it gets to the point that nobody really cares what you do. They just do their own thing. And even if they do look at you, they’ll forget whatever you are doing the next second. Besides, if you keep thinking about them, you can’t exactly concentrate on what you are doing!
    Great video Alpha!

    Going to the gym has really helped me be more confident. I used to not want to go to the gym at my high school and where I live and started going with some friends and I was wrong. I thought it was full of dbags. Which some are but most of those super fit people you see are really nice and actually want to help everyone get better. Isn’t that what the gyms for. I was with you until you started to rate style at the gym. Who cares if you are stylish elsewhere and slubby at the gym. That is the priority and so long as it is gym appropriate attire the gym is not about looking good. It is impossible to look good drenched it sweat staggering to your car. Trying to look good and expect it from others unreasonably is the gateway to gym douchery.

      Rex Erection Everyone is free to spend their money wherever they want, but I think you would be laughed out of any gym that isn't a Planet Fitness or a country club suggesting they wear fitted shirts and dress up to impress others. Just dressing basic is usually more than fine and then spend the money on things that you need for the gym. I never suggested someone cannot look decent, I have been hit on in the past while training when dressed very simply. I just question the priorities and work ethic of anyone who thinks it is important. Most of the things that happen in the gym are not particularly attractive and a lot of it makes you look dumb. I am pretty sure I did not look cool doing bear walks the other day or panting at the end of a giant set. I do not go to the gym to socialize and have yet to see anyone either in person or online that impresses me who is the type to plan their gym wardrobe. It isn't very important and in my opinion the money is better spent on things that will let you train better or look better outside of the gym. Gym warriors chuckle at guys in affliction shirts and then go back to the point of what they are in the gym for.

    Agree 100 percent of everything except the stringer part. If your making gains, you might as well show it if you are proud of them. The nicest people I’ve ever met in my life look like the typical roided up douch in the gym wearing stringers and they happen to be the friendliest and most nice people ever. They are just proud of what they accomplished and I don’t see anything with showing it off a little. But yes I agree training shirtless is a bit ridiculous.

Work boots can damage the machines and flip-flops or slip-ins can get caught in machines and pose a serious risk. Same thing with real baggy clothes, way too long pant legs and the like. But $95 joggers...yeah I 100% agree that is ridiculous, because who cares if you're wearing something ugly or cheap, so long as it's clean and not messing up the equipment or getting you all caught up in things.

      i just think everyone who's ripped or not need to remember they weren't all built that way before they started training and should promote a healthy lifestyle to those who wish to achieve a better physique! and you're right strength and aesthetics are different things and there are 'skinnier' guys at the gym that are way physically stronger than those who are more aesthetically built if that makes any sense! i just don't get the boasting and the weird pecking order, we're at a gym not a wolf pack... no one needs to be the 'alpha male'... the amount of times guys who are somewhat above average build flex for photos in front of mirrors make me cringe, like i said, theres a way about monitoring progress and then theres wanting that pumped photo and wanting everyone to know... like we get that you go through gallons of whey protein and spend more than half your life in the gym

      Been lifting for 6 years. You my friend need to calm down. Wanna know why guys like me (bigger) flex during our workers and pose? Maybe we have a competition coming up so were practicing our poses. We flex to keep the pump as big as possible. We dont care about anyone when were in there. We dont care if your half our size we dont care if your intimidated. We all started somewhere. But when were in the gym were focused on OURSELVES and how WE look.

    Nailed it. I started going to the gym at 54 years old after a physical and lab results (not good). Yes I was older then most in the gym, yes I was out of shape but I had to start going. I was lucky and joined a Planet Fitness the no attitude gym. People were nice to me and I took some classes to learn what to do. Now 1 year later I went from 180 to 161 pounds and waist size from 35" down to having some room in 32"
    If you're taking a rest for more then just a minute, get your butt off the equipment so others can use it. Do not sit on equipment for 10 min playing on your phone.
