    Thanks for this video. Just getting started. This may have changed since you made this, but I found my user preset in ~/Documents/East West/Presets/Hollywood Orchestrator/ {category name/preset name}. I'm wrestling with the same dilemma: in the DAW or in Orchestrator. In the past I've used Sibelius to make passages or patterns that I use in a DAW. Orchestrator makes shaping a performance easier with the mod wheel for sure, but programming it to all work will take some time.

    You can now output the Orchestrations to SEPARATE MIDI Channels in your DAW and then assign any instrument you want to them from the EW Libraries.

    I also like your valid question "wouldn't it be easier to do pattern editing using the DAW you're used to?" .. It's of course a YES. However, this is providing you can drag and drop the REC button on your DAW and create individual tracks with the original OPUS instruments. In Logic this is not possible at the moment!! 😢😢

    Great video Nathan, was useful to know the limitations and frustrations with the Orchestrator, along with tips on how to get around our work within those issues

      @@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed Very curious on if there is a way to automate instruments in and out of the orchestrator over time, without having to create a separate Orchestrator track. Thanks for your videos.

      @@paulstodolny3091 the easiest way is to be consistent with range limitations. But I want to understand more about your ideas. If you set up an orchestrator preset and want instruments to come and go, I think the easiest way would be to mute the instrument in the audio mixer (automation). What do you think? Is there a better way?

    Hi Nathan, after you export the individual tracks from the Orchestrator into your general orchestral template, do you use the (i) Orchestrator as the VST playback OR (ii) manually match the individual midi track to the matching instrument in the general orchestra template? Number (i) saves time but we will end up many Orchestrator VSTs as we need to change instruments/articulation once we are done with a preset (unless we just want to stick to one preset). Number (ii) frees up the orchestrator vst for other duties but need to manually assign each track to the matching track in the general template.

      Fantastic question and as you point out, both could work. I would personally prefer (ii) because it gives me more flexibility. It gives me the freedom to continue writing / changing lines that didn't come from the orchestrator.

    Is there a way via midi to humanize the ostinatos in orchestrator, so not so strict?

    • @NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed
      @NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed  Před 7 dny

      I think there is a way to record the midi but it might vary from daw to daw. Or there might be a plugin from plugin monkey (developer) that intercepts the midi, to record it and humanize / randomize it. Another possibility would be to save each instrument group to a different audio track and insert the Human plugin from Mixed in Key. I did a video on that plugin and was pretty impressed with how it could subtly alter audio timing to feel more in the pocket and groovy. Might be worth a demo.

      @@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed I see in Orchestrator the REC button maps to midi tracks for the different articulations in Cubase > can Modulate the midi in the Inspector per track(velocity and position preset even!)

    Very helpful vids. Thank you! I´m new to the Orchestrator and tried things quite a bit. It might be a strange question, but do you know if it´s a bug or is it not possible to create my own "playable" arranger lines without using a preset? Because everything I used to try won´t work. Even your hint with the little power icon to make the arranger sounding doesn´t help. Do you know something about that? I mean I CAN use a preset to start working on it, but I like to learn it from the really scratch and can´t find it in the manuel and I ty to avoid mistakes I´ll defenetly do only because I don´t really understand how it works. Does this makes sense??🙄 I´m sorry about the grammar, in case it´s too bad.🙈

      Oh you want to start from a “blank” preset? I would recommend starting with one of the given presets instead. Here’s why: they begin with instrumentation choices. So, pick a preset that has a close set of instrumentation choices, blank out the patterns, and save it then write your own patterns and save them. You can change the instrumentation but having a starting point is still good. I don’t remember a completely blank template but I might have missed it.

    Thanks Nathan. Are these loops of different lengths? I mean how do you choose the length of the loop/pattern? I.e. 1bar, two bars, etc..

    Does orchestratot have midi drag&drop function for further editing in DAW?

    • @NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed
      @NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed  Před 2 lety

      Not in the initial version, but you can set up a midi track to “record” the orchestration while it plays.
