    Im not Irish but this song makes me want to be lol. Honestly I had tears swell up in my eyes and must have played thisn song over 12 times today. Drinking some whiskey while listening to this!

      Two types of people in the world: those who're Irish, and those who want to be. (And to be fair, there's a third type, who don't give a fuck. Fair play. that's fine.) But to all, I say, you're all welcome. All who want to be Irish, welcome and join the craic.

      First heard this a few years ago. As I heard line about the Hare jumping over the greyhounds and breaking through the ring my eyes welled up. It has the same effect on me every time I hear it.
      Heroic that hare

      Only thing missing in the video is the actual white hair and some greyhounds running about 😅

    This is the Quintessence of an Irish song. Beautiful imagery and lavish language to convey a simple story.
    Not since Elmer Fudd the Nimrod did a Rabbit Hunt gain such art.

      the song for me is like as if the white hare is ireland in the times of oppression and the hunters are the english killing for sport which is exactly what they did to the irish back then

    • @skimmingstones1
      @skimmingstones1 Před 5 lety +2

      Well imo the song is about hare coursing ( which is rank as well ) but not about fox hunting hence my original comment . I still love the song and the delivery of it it’s amazing

    • @robbmorrow
      @robbmorrow Před 4 lety +5

      food critic The song is literally meant to be about coursing, but with hunters coming down to have a go at catching it. The same is true of the Hills of Granemore; about a coursing day ruined by strange outsider dogs killing the hare, so ruining the day’s sport. There are no nationalist undertones in any of these songs.

      @@tan14man The hare got away when it went to the land it knew. Just like the irish escape the british opression using guerilla warfare in the lands they knew better than the dogs

    This video is a disgrace. An Irish song with an English hunt?

    • @GillRant
      @GillRant Před 3 lety +13

      Understandable reaction, but I like to think the hare is a metaphor for Ireland itself , so in my selfish mind it is somewhat fitting.
