Wow. That's amazing. Closest I got was seeing Strumner front The Pogues and the covered 5 or 6 Clash tunes. In Celtic fashion.
Music history was made here. They were masters of punk and their influence will live on forever. I am 73, a rocker at heart, and still working for the clampdown.
I love the CLASH too. I first heard their "London Calling" album the year it came out (1979). My world was never the same after that. I think "London Calling" was the 20th century's great ever album. "Clampdown" is one of my favour CLASH songs, I can listen to it over and over and over again. Take Care, Bob ! Keep on Rockin', dude !!

grow up, they were a pop band, changed nothing for anyone, and made a lot of money in the process, strummer the son of a foreign office diplomat pretended to be working class, he was educated privately and lived in Embassies and consoles around the world, jones is a bread head, topper a junky, only Simminon is anything near their image,
One of the great rock songs, ever. No fancy harmonies, just throwing it all down. Few punkers could mix up basic rock, ska and Chuck Berry in one hot f’ing mess. I saw these guys 5 times. I’m old but I can die happy.

Well I'd say the Sex Pistols were the creme de le creme when it came to punk, guitar riffs that are capable of giving you goosebumps, legendary songs such as "God save the Queen" and "Anarchy in the UK". The Clash and the Sex pistols must've found something in common seeing as they went on tour with each other.

In the late 70s and early 80s, Britain was in the throes of massive economic inequality. The U.S, on the other hand, was mired in abject consumerism and recreational drug use by members of all classes. The music of the era, therefore, while fun and exciting, cultivated pure escapism. The Clash emerged in the midst of all these developments, and so their first album was filled with indignation about social injustice and inequality. But then the group evolved, and while maintaining their sociopolitical zeal, they integrated different musical styles into a cohesive sound, something that had never been done before. (Sandanista! is almost like a encylopedia of music.) The band members also eschewed the trap of wealth accumulation-- with the exception of the last phase of the group's existence--early in their career secretly ushering in moneyless fans into the venues and then releasing their third album practically for free. In line with these commitments, in 1983, they forced the US Festival organizers to donate $500000 to struggling bands, and, as they were on the verge of stardom, they decided to break up the group. Years later, the former members rejected an offer for millions of dollars by MTV to play a series of live shows. One other thing: The Clash inspired many aspiring musicians and song writers to write about issues other than love. The list is long. I don't think what I just described paints a picture of a "safe" band.

The way they all approach the mics at the beginning singing "what are we gonna do now," is so powerful. They were an absolute army!

Topper was a very good musician he could play rock,funk,jazz etc.

Topper was a great drummer but without Joe as the front man and his pounding rhythm guitar, there never would have been The Clash.
@@888strummer True but you could also say that they would have been nothing without Joneses excellent arrangements of the songs .Strum once said of Jones that he was `the brains behind the group`. But Strummer was the main frontman of the group with three frontmen !

The way Mick's guitar just roars on the intro is what keeps me coming back to watch this again and again.
The entire rhytm section of the Clash were a beast on their own.
Topper is a world class percussionist. They were lucky to have his huge talent at the kit, driving the band.
Strummer probably had a heart of gold.
Great artist, but could be a bit of a lefty pill. Jones tired of it. Supported Marxism until late in life.
I saw them live only once, on their first US tour. Just thinking about that night still gives me chills.
I saw them at the Aragon (Brawl)room in Chicago. They booed us for not being rowdy enough.

@@paulsandor3522 The venue where I saw them was the old Agora in Cleveland. I don't remember what the first song was, but I do remember that they had the longest guitar cords I had ever seen. They were constantly, constantly, in motion, playing incredibly fast and incredibly loud. I was up front, on the right.
Caught them thier 1st time in USA at Orpheum Theatre Boston "79" I believe, the balcony was bouncing.

i saw this tour when they reached San Francisco and they did not disappoint! of course, seeing them in a theater rather than a stadium helped!
I just watched 30 seconds of Styx's song "Lords of the Ring" on the recommendation of a friend who said Styx was better than the Clash. I'm hear to detox, and I don't think we can be friends anymore.

If you’ve listened to London Calling then and now their music stands the test of time.,the album is an experience of life and encapsulates elements of it as it is.They are enduring and captivating led by a charismatic Joe and supported in an abundance of talent and versatility.Loved them then love them now.They really were the only team that mattered and even more so now with the trickle of drivel surrounding us.

Martin Zaehringer amazing so many people forget Topper made The Clash what it was . He earned the title of Human Drum Machine and took it all in stride and owned his mistakes . Terry was great too but Topper ruled .

I was at the Odeon that night and the Clash were superb. I was just coming up to 19 and full of it, Punk happened just at the right time for me and I remember leaving School in 77 thinking the world was mine to take. Fuck was I wrong! I failed to take the chances that came my way, oh well, shit happens.
