- How To Defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade - Elden Ring Gameplay Guide
Maliketh, the Black Blade is one of my personal favorite fights in Elden Ring. His moves, his power, his aesthetic and his voice lines all come together to make one fearsome beast. In this video I discuss my strategy to taking down Maliketh and moving on to the rest of the game.
The Golden Order has been broken. Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.
In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.
Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.
And become the Elden Lord.
Elden Ring is an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration; it features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that players start with a linear opening but eventually progress to freely explore the Lands Between, including its six main areas, as well as castles, fortresses, and catacombs scattered throughout the open world map. These main areas are interconnected through a central hub that players can access later in the game's progression-similar to Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls-and are explorable using the character's mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system is an available option. Throughout the game, players encounter non-player characters (NPCs) and enemies alike, including the demigods who rule each main area and serves as the game's main bosses.
Combat in Elden Ring relies heavily on character-building elements found in previous Souls games and related intellectual properties, such as calculated and close-ranged melee-based combat with the use of skills, magic abilities, as well as blocking and dodging mechanics. Elden Ring introduces mounted combat and a stealth system, the latter being a core gameplay element from Sekiro; these features are expected to encourage players in strategizing their combat approach with each unique enemy they encounter. The game makes use of a player character stamina bar after being absent from Sekiro, although its overall influence over combat was reduced compared to previous FromSoftware games that utilized it. Unlike in Sekiro, resurrection mechanics after in-game death are not available; however, some elements were added to ensure players' progression within the game.
Miyazaki stated that the customization in Elden Ring would be richer, as players are able to discover different skills through their exploration of the map instead of unlocking skill trees as in Sekiro and differing from the pre-fixed weapon skills of FromSoftware's previous games. These skills are interchangeable with a large variety of weapons which, alongside equipment, magic abilities, and items players can craft using materials found within the world, can be used to customize the player character.[4][6] The game also features summoning mechanics, where players can summon a large variety of collectible spirits hidden throughout the game's world map, including previously defeated enemies, as allies to assist them in battle. Similar to the Souls series, the game's multiplayer allows other players to be summoned for cooperative play.

Im at the point where i can no hit phase 1 and phase 2 i die instantly
Im late to this comment but i got him down to two hits on my 4 try and failed i wasnt mad cuz these were my first attempts but fucking shit i had to do 16 tries to get him to 2 hits again and failed i have used 4h today on this boss and still cant get him im starting to think that this is impossible

Still in awe how you can focus on the fight AND be an entire encyclopedia on their moves and how to counteract and doge and stuff. Amazing.
I have beaten him 6 times, but I still feel this boss is broken - I think the second phase is just ridiculous - hard to survive for more than five seconds without thinking through how you will respond to his first combo. So you have to go and do the run back, defeat the Beast Clergyman all over again just to work out how you will survive the first 5 seconds. I think I just got lucky on my first 5 playthroughs but on the sixth play through.....oh boy.
Same. I'm on my fourth plathrough and have just been trying to get better the past 3 because my first one I basically only spammed unsheathe. My opinion has changed on bosses like Mohg who I enjoy fighting now but Maliketh still isn't clicking for me. Actively dislike fighting him every playthrough. As frustrating as Malenia could be I always feel like I want to fight her again when I beat her. Never Maliketh.

Gotta admit, first boss in Elden Ring I finally decided to look for guidance 😂🔥, cleargy man's moves I figured it out , but man the 2nd phase can't even let me stand for 5 seconds

The main thing I got from this video is that you can equip the flasks in the same location as other items like summons. That's pretty awesome because I find using items like the blasphemous claw difficult since I go to heal, fail because the non-flask item is active, then die. I also die a lot to accidentally switching the active flask, so drinking blue when I need red.

I had no idea you could just JUMP right over those beast claw shockwave attacks. That is by far the hardest move for me to avoid in phase 1, it seemed like no matter what direction I rolled I just kept getting clipped by it, and it does a TON of damage to me. But of course phase 2 is the real problem, and I don't have much faith that I am capable of getting the timing right on those parries with the Blasphemous Claw, lol. My current goal is to just survive his attacks, which is insanely hard to do because if I get hit even once then my health starts dropping like a rock and I need to heal, and then he always finishes me off while I'm healing. Basically I hate this boss and I just want to get through it somehow so I can continue my first playthrough.

I finally just beat him today after around 100 tries. I did have the blasphemous claw but I still had trouble staying close and waiting for that parry moment without him single hit killing me. I might have only successfully parried him once in my last fight. My +10 black knife tiche's performance was very unpredictable. but with a stroke of luck she did finally come through and helped me finish him off.

Your boss is different than mine, mine doesn’t move that slow or take that much time between attacks
Just have to keep trying until the game randomly gives you a play through where he’s not moving so insane. It’ll eventually happen

For those that are struggling to do this without summons, my only pieces of advice are this:
1. You have no take minimal damage vs beast clergyman. You need those health pots. The phase 2 fight can be LONG.
2. In phase 2, run behind a pillar to avoid the opening combo, then stay glued to Maliketh's right foot. Most of his combos, namely the storm-of-slashes BS, can be dodged by simply being behind him/to his right.
3. Don't get greedy. If you think he is going to continue attacking, never attack, only dodge. Otherwise, you're going to lose half your HP and another 15% to the black flame.
Just beat him for the first time using a colossal sword build after like 50 attempts 🙏 stay patient and it will come

Hi Josh. Personally, I think the most difficult moment is when he sends the three red swings. I know when to parry, but if I come out of the dodge of the third swing too late, I don't manage to parry the golden one, which often leads to instant death (NG+7). This in turn leads to me being very excited every time I see him, actually I don't want to parry anymore, but dodging doesn't work well for me either, because he often rushes towards you around the pillars with the golden swing. BTW: Great explanation and helpful video.

It's strange the first time I fought this boss I got him down to quarter of his health. Now I can't even survive the first 10 seconds of phase two. I am sure this game ramps up the difficulty or aggressiveness of each boss if you don't beat them the first time.

It's really just what the boss ai decides they want to do that round. Sometimes you get really lucky with them making stupid moves or they go super focused mode.
I have played through Elden Ring like 8-10 times now, and I decided to get much better at the bosses, as I think that makes them way more fun.
Malenia became my favorite boss after I fully learned her moveset, now it's time I learn Maliketh properly

I arrived late to your video but finally beat him yesterday, just wish I’d watched this first because my attempt was very sloppy and required summons.
I kind of regret using the mimic because I don’t feel like I got the full sense of accomplishment after defeating him, but by that point I was just tired of his BS!
how do you drink potions without switching the bottom item (the d-pad slots)?

what button is parry?
If your still struggling with this fight, get the Fallingbeast Jaw weapon, upgrade it, summon mimic, then spam the ash of war it has until he dies. You can get the weapon by killing the full grown beast on top of Mt. Gelmir. (If you struggle with this, use poison mist and sneak behind him to cheese him to death) I killed Maliketh, Godfrey, Radagon and Commander Niall with this set up and had very little trouble.
how much fp and fp flasks u gotta have atleast?
@@oSimply they nerfed the falling star beast Jaw already. It doesn't stun lock maliketh, or any other late game boss.
All his rock projectile attacks serves as opening.
This game is nerve wrecking without the summons. But fun, this is one of my favourite bosses.
I dont want to know how to parry him i want to know how to dodge his attacks, mainly the spinning attack.
I did it without the Blasphemous Claw, could have known, but never wanted to look it up... I always just knocked him down in both Phases and thats how i Defeated him... needed to attack Heavily really frequent for it to work, but i did it (Wasnt worth it and i needed to perfectly dodge everything including the Almost In-dodgable dagger attack, which i got to dodge)
I dont have enough reaction time to parry so blasphemous claw is basically useless for me
Diverting his attention by eskeleton summons and attacking with magic can also be fruitful,though your intelligence,faith and magic stick must be in high levels.

I got him into second Phase twice and after that he just never stopped attacking. He didnt give me a single attack window for over two minutes
He can do that, yeah. Other bosses can go crazy like that too, you just have to survive it or reset after death and try again. Keep on keeping on!

Most people aren't going to have the Blasphemous Claw. It's best to do these tutoriials IMO for beginners who wont have that which I think you did a good job of here anyway by demonstrating his moves and how and when to dodge. Good job. But yeah most people aren't going to have that Claw.

Hardest boss in the game by far. I killed malenia on my second shot. This one took me more times than I can count. Finally decided to not listen to what everyone else said, used the vampire build, mimic tear, and boom, first try.
If you are a summon user it doesn't count on you. It counts on summon (kill)
I thought the Godskin Duo were cheese but this guy is way worse... like fighting a meth addict in a closet with a toothbrush. The scaling on these bosses is nuts, I am like 135 and he beats me and my mimic like we are level 1. the first phase is no problem for me unless he catches me on the stupid little bridge you enter or knocks me off there.
And then after Godwyn, Radagon/Marika, and the Elden Beast are all just super easy.

IDIOT'S GUIDE on How to Beat Maliketh (or any boss in Elden Ring) - upgrade your weapon of choice, buff with buffs of choice, enter the boss arena, dodge their attacks, attack them when they're not attacking....easy!

Nah it's not broken. Maliketh always opens up 1 of 2 different combos that are similar to one another and it's infamous for taking players out instantly.
Maliketh is illegal... He has been JOOSHED.
