One rainy evening in 1972 I was driving home to Grimsby from Bangor in North Wales. I drove up Lindum Hill and was just about to accelerate out onto the road towards Market Rasen when a man stepped out into the road and flagged me down. He asked for directions to the cathedral and told me that a folk group was performing there. I told them to follow me and I guided them there. I decided to stay and see what all the fuss was about. It was the Amazing Blondel. I watched them perform Celestial Light in the cathedral that night and have been a fan ever since .

That's a beautiful story. I wish mine was as serendipitous but.. my school friend and I really loved Quintessence and I was in love with Cat Stevens. We bought tickets to see Cat Stevens in 1971 (75p) at Liverpool Stadium (so many brilliant concerts there). We'd never heard of Amazing Blondel and weren't even sure how to pronounce 'Blondel' (first syllable or second?). We were blown away by Amazing Blondel, Cat Stevens and Quintessence. Cat was headlining but he gave the spot to Quintessence because of the amazing vibe. Best. Concert. Ever.

John Gladwin was my guitar teacher for many years while I was a border in Caistor Grammar School in the 80ies. He was very pleasantly surprised when I told him (in 1981) that I had one of his albums "Eventide" - I was only 12 at the time - so that was fairly unusual - their music not being really "mainstream" in any sense of the word.

I was in Town Choice Folk Group from Edinburgh. 1971 We turned professional and we used to sing Love Sonnet , Spring Season and Under the Greenwood tree, W e travelled to somewhere in Yorkshire and on announcing we were singing an Amazing Blondell song, someone in the audience said, 'Oh they live nearby and were here kast week'. We had no idea where they came from and that came as a surprise. We just liked their music. Quite unique. Good to now they kept going for so long.

They were one of the the best live bands I ever saw. This should be adopted Lincolnshire's 'national' anthem. Thank you John, Terry and Eddie for a near-lifetime of listening joy.

My first experience with Amazing Blondel: I fell in love with Cat Stevens when I was 12. Then he disappeared (he had TB). In 1971 he came back looking even more wonderful and sounding even better! Lady D'Arbanville the single from Mona Bone Jakon, the album. My sister bought that album for me for my 16th birthday (thanks Kath!). We had moved to Liverpool and Cat Stevens was playing at the Liverpool Stadium!! I persuaded my best friend to buy a ticket so that we could go and see him and so off we went. This has to have been the best coming of age concert ever. I had never heard of Amazing Blondel and there they were playing the most beautiful music - with extremely crude jokes in between songs :). Cat Stevens was headlining but Quintessence was supposed to follow Amazing Blondel. Instead, Cat came next because he gave the energy to Quintessence. OMG. Such an amazing concert. Every time Amazing Blondel or Quintessence came to Liverpool, my friend and I were there in the stalls. I'm going to have Celestial Light played at my 'Death to Crem' transition.

I was just watching a wonderful French film entitled AFTER MAY ( directed by Olivier Assayas ) which contains some amazing music by such people as Syd Barrett, Kevin Ayers and towards the end of the film, this wonderful song by Amazing Blondel... A marvellous film honouring great music of the very early 70's and the times of teenage revolution in France... I'm now going to hunt down an old cassette tape I made years ago which has an Amazing Blondel album on it ( England I think ! )
