    Excellent video... and explanation. I got a short somewhere else on my board... I had the macbook in storage for a while, and to my annoyance it would not boot up anymore.
    When I plug the magsafe in, I get a green light, but battery will not charge, no spinning fan. The area near the 4 square silver pads next to the fan gets extremely hot. The short most be somewhere near there.

    My MBP mid 2012 i5 2.5 A1278 works fine when i am on power adaptor without the battery connected. However, when the battery is charged and connected (with and without power adaptor), I get all sorts of issues on the screen - lines, spots, some part of the menu blacked out, sometimes fonts on some part of the screen becoming larger etc.. Authorised service center do not have a clue and they suggested logic board replacement, hoping that the issue will be solved. However the cost of replacement is almost the cost of the macbook. Any pointers you can provide is much appreciated.

    that was really interesting, exactly the problem Im having and I do have a donor board but it has the same problem, BUMMER, btw I'm curious how you used hoty air to remove the faulty capac itor, that solder must have a really low melting point

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  Před 4 lety

      roontunes It is lead free solder, so the melting point is higher. I have just learned where to hold the hot air, at the right distance to not damage the other components. Just lots of practice!

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  Před 5 lety +1

      Always look over a board before cleaning it and even take pictures if necessary as where you notice visual damage is the best place to start. If you clean the board first it makes it significantly more difficult to trace down problems.

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  Před 5 lety +1

      We typically use 450 C with almost max air speed. However, all of this can vary depending on the hot air station and the user. So really it’s best if you mess around with different settings yourself until you get the results you are looking for.
