Having used the EOLAD 1 and 2 (we have both in the armory) it is actually a pretty incredible device. Provided it is mounted to a short riser (wilcox) and you don't c-clamp your rifle. The illuminator on the 2 is very capable, and I wish EOTECH still made a optic/laser combo today. Maybe we will have that discussion with them soon. And yes, we had to order over 500 EXPS3-1s to get them to bring that to the market. It's great under NVGs like you mentioned. We also have their grenade launcher sight - it's most practical application is firing munitions under NVGs passively. How practical is that? You guys can be the judge on that. Solid video, I learned stuff. -Lucas

Disney wishes their cinematic universe had such depth
@@coreyperez13yep, Holosun. Unfortunately America doesn't have the ability to mfg. emitters or chipsets while maintaining production rates and cost.
I remember when Surefire used to be 100% American, but to keep up with the industry they too source product from Taiwan and most likely China.
EOTech is 100% American and Aimpoint 100% Sweden. Most people here just shooting steel aren't worried about wether or not their optic can survive a 30 foot fall from a helicopter onto concrete before being washed into the ocean. Not to mention EOtech has had a lawsuit, Holosun hasn't. Even Trijicon is getting on board with Holosun tech after 3-5 years... Lol
Glock is way more confusing since they create a new number for compact models. Sig will at least note whether it's compact or not and even mentions the caliber like with the p320 10mm
Used a 512 in 2011 when issued a m249 with a para stock. Optic survived at least 9k rounds in it between multiple servicemembers, 2 deployments, and many gunnery qual ranges. Lives on today.
Someone I trust had just the opposite experience that you had as well as several of his teammates. He really didn't care because they had a big box of replacements.
The newest variants fixed the durability and "other" issues.

The only trouble I've had with my 512 from the mid-2000s was corroded contacts because I left the batteries in too long. The modestly priced replacement kit fixed it right up.

got myself a cheap 552 for airsoft/larping and its the most awesome thing ever. It was build in 09 and has a very little bit of delamination going on. coming from only cheap clones it's the most amazing thing ever
I have evolution gear xps's were the NV mode does work with nods and even my toy peq 15s from wadson also have working ir laser it's crazy how far a toy clone got as far as functions I would never mount them on a real gun mybe 22 and I have a 512 clone that's more then a decade old and has decent battery life but tempted to get a real 512 since there not 1000$
where'd you get it?

My husband has a Meprolight MOR on his rifle that I got him as a wedding present when we got married. He went on and on about how his Israeli rifle should have a meprolight sight and I kept telling him no it was to expensive “when I already had bought it for him” he got so mad because I wouldn’t let him buy it and he cried when he opened it on our wedding day. I’ve shot it on his weapon and it’s amazing! The laser adjustment being synchronized with the dot adjustment is so cool! Hop if you get a chance to review or buy the MOR go for it!
I wish green got more love. Green reticles work better with my high powered glasses. Green shifts less through them. Red shifts twice as much and the opposite direction to how I'm turning my head.
If you wear glasses, look at a gas station sign with green and red numbers. Turn your head and watch the numbers. You should see them shift opposite each other. It all depends on how thick your glasses are.
Hop uploads video about something I’m to poor to own.
Me: “Fascinating.”
I always wondered why anyone would get a single dot no circle Eotech instead of just getting a red dot. Never thought of the night vision reason. Entertaining and informative you are truly under appreciated.
The biggest reason is for those users who have a bit of astigmatism. For those users, a standard red dot becomes 2 (or more) dots that cannot be reconciled. The projection physics of a holographic sight eliminates this problem entirely.
As someone who also memorized Al three generations of S&W automatic model numbers, this is deeply satisfying. Good work Hop.
I definitely wouldnt consider myself a serious user but i really like the 512. They have become very affordable over the last few years if you can catch them on sale.

Got me feeling some type of way with the "not for serious buyers" bit 😢. I got the green one because green pops out better for me on bright days.

Note on the 553. Mine broke while using it on a stribog, internal mirror fell off (it was 11 years old, not faulting the optic) but due to it being out of production, factory repairs were not an option, but they did give me a half off coupon to sucker me back in

"mom the new EOTECH lore just dropped"
I once heard the production offshoot from the in-line battery compartment to a transverse battery compartment was heavily influenced by the SCAR-H because it was so notorious for beating the shit out of every optic that was put on it. I am inclined to believe it because the DOD issued an open statement to all its optics contractors that every potential optic would be torture tested on the SCAR for longevity. Sounds more like a threat than a recommendation LOL.

In awe of the on paper features of this EOLAD
I'm a member of a private sales group on FB for NV/Thermals and someone posted an Eolad up for sale a couple weeks ago. Cant remember the exact asking price, but it wasn't cheap. One of the coolest things I've seen even if its really just a novelty these days compared to modern stuff. Super rare though.
Hop what a wealth of knowledge!
I bought a Bushnell holosight AA 520021 when pressing the down button the Ring of Death disappears and has 5 clicks not visible but when I use gen3 WP pvs-14's I can see the ring that gets lesser with each press of the down arrow. It's useable and doesn't overpower nods, it was born Sept 9 2004 maybe since it was a really late model?. It was $200 with my ffl's from Jerry's or Nationwide (now Kimber). I don't need the hood for another $290, shoulda bought more! Thanks
As soon as you pulled up the punnet square it all made sense. Med school trauma.
I've had my XPS-3 with a single dot for about 13 years and I bought it from someone else because wanted the donut of death. It has had at seen at least 15k rounds with the majority being on a SCAR-16. It has been a great optic. Sure the battery life sucks but it is by far my favorite non-magnified optic.
I can't wait for the new model to come out. I heard that they made the window smaller and added one more brightness setting. Seriously though. Eotech superiority.
10:34 Sig actually used that same type of cross shaped reticle on the discontinued Romeo6 and some Romeo4 models. It looks clearer to my eye than the 2 MOA dot.
yooo the reticle at 1:49 is actually amazing.

Good, Thx. As per your usual, plenty of great info. I'm Subscribed.
I still have a 553 and It still works just fine. I have not experienced any of the issues the 553 is reported to have. I have however never jumped out of aircraft with it, gone into subzero temperatures or put it on a 308 but other than that it still works great.
I run that XR308 reticle on the 500-series for my RFB. I feed that thing Lake City M80, and for the .6 holdover, yeah, its kinda on. What helps is that I have run a G33 magnifier in series, so the reticle is also magnified.
Its good enough for what I use it for. Holds zero just fine, and I love that it runs on ubiquitous AAs, even rechargeables.
I’m liking these more constant uploads!
I would be interested in hops take on the mepro mor pro, seems like an intriguing option with very little coverage on yt. Great video!
“If it ain’t broke….”
So I have one of those old N cell models (511). I tested it alongside an aimpoint T2 and an aimpoint PRO with my PVS14 and white phos BNVD's (2600 FOM) with fresh batteries in the eotech and at the lowest "daylight" setting it was to dim to be able to use with nods. The lowest setting was was in between 1-2 of the night vision modes on the T2. Significantly dimmer than your NV compatible example in the video. I don't live around a city so the only ambient light was roughly 1/2 moon and stars. Maybe the older 511 model gets dimmer than newer stuff.
It's definitely possible your sight is failing with age. When the nitrogen falls out they get much dimmer.
11:46 No way! I always thought that the "Biohazard" Eotech recital was an April fools joke perpetuated by fud-lore.
Thanks Hop. That was a lot to unpack

“But no living man am I!”
I feel like I just went to EOTech college. Thank you for the instruction.
6:50 Good thing I'm already on the toilet
My 556 Eotech is still running strong, 10,000 rounds + or - and still holds zero. It’s been almost a decade and I’ve only had to change out the CR123s a handful of times, and I still have a bunch of 2013-2014 Panasonic CR123s with a charge waiting to be used. Can’t complain really, fantastic quality and reliability.
I have an early production 553 and the battery terminals broke away (the plastic fatigued and broke off where the springs attached to the battery box) inside of about 10000 rounds mounted on a regular CQBR upper. EOTech repaired it free of charge, of course, and I am glad that I am was a professional that might actually rely on that sight for my survival when it broke.
“Babe wake up, Hop dropped another Eotech video”
Now you have me wanting to know all about their magnifiers.
Thanks for the video, im a special kind of stupid that wasn't aware of the bottom part of the circle reticle is meant to be used as a close quarter reference point
Excellent work again sir
Great info. Socko continues to be adorable and sweet.
Ill only be running exps-2s on my airsoft guns from now on. Thanks for the insight.
Kinda weird that I hit pause on the video, hit the bathroom and grabbed a snack and came back, only to be told to take a bathroom break and get a snack. Huh
It would be nice if EOTech started to make different colored and different reticle optics. Limited production run of some of them obviously but it would be cool to see happen. Make the collectors go wild over them.
Another excellent video Hop, if Lucas liked it, well damn!
I hope someday when it becomes commercially aviable you will cover some stuf about Mepro M22. Maybe it fixes M21 problems who knows. Had 1 (M21) and I wasn't too happy. Then I bought Vortex UH-1 (worst mistake of my life, unusable with Nigh Vision) and then I finally made a good decision and bought EXPS3 with circle-1 dot and Aimpoint 3XMag with Unity mount (In freedom currency I paid about 750$ used)
I'd wish they didn't ditch the 4x magnifier. They'll probably drop a few more when they release some new stuff next year (just a hunch). In a long interview from Eotech (I think last year) they mention in terms of longevity, the green laser won't last quite as long as the red ones. Though I can't say if the energy consumption on the used 'laizör' unit. The quality will be the same, additional certified testing is just unnecessary cost.
Is there one with bdc for a 20''' / 5.56x45mm/.223 Rem.? The -2/-4 is for a 14.5'' barrel at 500yards.
I hope you test all that Meprolight stuff at some point. Dropping the circle but leaving the 4 small dashes would be a cool reticle + optional bdc. Less crowded but still something to hold at close range. Thanks for the video. A good effort with all the hws stuff they got without being >30min long.
I bought a 512 with the XR308 4 years ago to pair with a SA-58 (PARA FAL) I tried to modernize. The gun didn’t work out too well. But the optic remains strong. Currently lives on top of a Bulgarian AK-74
Did the gun jam too much
@@jason200912 getting metal magazines that worked well was exceptionally difficult. But I was able to acquire at least 20 or so various metric pattern magazines (most from the Rhodesian bush war “Do we?”) and they held up fine but needed new followers and springs. For reliability sake, I only vetted around 12 of those mags out of the bunch I had that I deemed “ready for anything” I did have quite the number of polymer mags as well. Being the easiest to acquire but also the most lack luster “round spewing” wastes of time I’d ever bought. The main issue I was having with the weapon was the accuracy. With factory new M80 ball I’d get around 5 MOA and 6 MOA with surplus German M80 from the 1990s, but! the cycling/reliability of the weapon was the best. With .308 however the weapon would shoot around 2.5 MOA with either Hornady Black or Federal gold metal match, although they had better performance, the reliability went down the drain cycling 2-3 rounds and then failing to feed. I deemed both too expensive for a battle rifle modernization attempt and sold it last weekend mags, furniture, and all.

Great stuff, Hop!
Apple Autocorrect thinks your name should be changed to “shop” every time I type it.
I had a 551 for many years. I had to replace the cap due to spring fatigue after about 12 years. At the 15 year mark, I was having issues finding N batteries that worked. It seemed that a few were a hair too small and didn't work despite an adequate charge. Battery Patrol batteries didn't work and I couldn't consistently find other manufacturers. Very crisp reticle. I traded it in to EOTech for a new one. I probably would have kept it if I had a solid supply of N batteries that worked with it.
The #1 thing you can't intellectualize but got to get hands on with is how your eyes work with sighting.
I really struggle with most red dots for some reason or another. I also struggle more with some magnified optics than others. I have an exceptional ability to use irons for pistol while threat focusing both eyes open... don't ask me how, but red dots be damned, lol.
Why bring that up here, this optic is a god send for me on a rifle.

Where can I see more of the Cat?
I messed around with some Light Interference Filters and tested a 512 I had, and it dimmed the bloom enough where it seemed to work fine. No burns on my units. Granted I run my gain about half unless I’m in a really dark setting, though I did briefly turn it up and it still seemed fine. I’ll try it again at some point under different conditions.
I was just curious, I have other optics and LAMs, so I don’t have to use the 512, just good to know.
I prefer having only a Circle as reticle as this enables me to see the center of the target, this might not be for everyone but to me it just feels very natural and intuitive. Oh, and if any sight/optics manufacturing company happens to read this comment, red colored reticles is just soooo mainstream! ;)
