My man is Italian and he is the same way. He gets offended when I offer to pay for anything. I think it's a cultural thing where a man is measured by his wealth and his ability to take care of his wife/girl.

Well, as a man it is pretty embarrassing to have a woman pay for you.
I feel like a piece of shit when a woman is paying for me and i know i shouldn't.
We (men) are conditioned/brainwashed to be providers by society and taught that we are worthless if we can't.

I don't know why everyone was so negative about his point. He is totally right. I want a man with his 'own thing going on' as well, so I think wanting a woman - especially when she has no kids- to have her own job is totally fair.

Not true, necessarily. Women, realize that if you are cleaning and cooking, and especially raising children, you ARE working! It's the mans job, then to work and make enough money. Certainly if he is not making enough money, DO NOT have children yet! It's not fair to either of you, especially the children. Then you also have to pay for someone to watch your children and later having children coming home from school to no one and then you wonder why they are getting pregnant, getting someone pregnant, smoking, drinking and taking other drugs, duh! Women now are working a job, then going home and working their tush off to clean, cook, laundry and manage the children, it's nuts! The guy gets home, plops on the recliner, ears and sleeps, which is understandable if she works at home only. Don't be fooled. If you both need to work full time, you both need to share all Home tasks 50/50.

I am surprised and disappointed in Steve's opinion about a wife needing to work outside the home to "have something to do." He should clean, cook and raise the children when he gets home from work after picking them up from daycare and get them ready for school in the morning. Also, maybe she already made her money and wisely saved it. Maybe she doesn't have to have a paycheck to keep herself busy. She might have hobbies or volunteer work. Ladies, most women used to stay home and wok, which is fine too. I understand needing or wanting more money also.

When a guy goes out to meet women, basically we look for: 1. Someone who looks good; remember, we work 'backwards'; Unless there's something about you that turns us off, you're a potential girlfriend when it comes to looks. You don't have to look like a pageant model. Just normal. Or at the very least, not fat (fat is a turn off for most men, and if the sight of you turns us off, no relationship is going to happen, ever). Beyond that, we want someone who's nice to us, clean, disease free, and has some kind of job. Doesn't matter what. Doesn't matter how much you earn. Just as long as you're not a lazy ass.

I knew a guy who was obese, yet he want a thin women, really built and beautiful. I felt like saying that chances are, she would want the same thing. He finally did meet such a girl and she may have married him to stay in the country and she stayed with him for 8-10 years but he was so raunchy, hitting on her friends and being an ass that she divorced him. They had 2 children in San Antonio. She is very sweet and she remarried a really nice guy from Michigan. Jovita's new hubby looks like Rodney Dangerfield and is a private plane pilot. She had gone to school while married the first time for beauty school, became a skin care specialist, opened her own business, sold it and worked there or someplace like it so she'd have more time with her children, since business owners generally work a lot more hours. I bet they are still married as I don't believe either would ever cheat and believe they are both smart enough to communicate well. Her first husband was my husbands room mate and best friend (supposedly) for 7 years and he hit on me too while I was married.

PS I lost contact with that guy, Jan, but I'd be surprised if he has found anyone to put up with that stuff. Hopefully he realized he needed to change. He and his brother, Rudy, who lives in Katy, near Houston, would talk about the prostitutes they went out with in Mexico. That's not love when you treat your wife or husband that way.

Who is going to work at home, cleaning, laundry, cooking, raising children if there are some, paying bills, and many other tasks? Are you going to worl your azz off when you get home from work like some women are doing? I understand if she WANTS or NEEDS to work. I also understand if he stays home working while she goes out and works. They need to be in agreement or not be together from the beginning. Also people need to accept there will always be misunderstandings and tough decisions to be made somehow when they may not agree on something. You go in for the long haul. Each person needs to be thinking of their loved one too.

A women should do everything in her power to fulfill her mans needs if he is deserving, that's the problem, women give away their all to men who are scumbags, and to the whole "bringing home a paycheck," yes a man should support his woman b/c her duties are a handful especially once there are children involved. but only when he is perfectly able to. but i had girls who just sit at home, have never worked a day in their life and complain about life, why don't you get your ass up and do something about it, so with all that said a guy wants brains (personality, funny, smart, educated) beauty ( well that is in the eye of the beholder, basically don't let yourself go) and body ( please don't think i am referring to being plastic, i mean go to the gym stay fit try to be healthy) and a women just needs support , respect, and love, and if he's sexy why not ;)
