Discord has a doxxing problem. Tons of people are getting doxxed and there are just so many damn reddit threads about it. Whether it's someone getting their name doxed or their whole entire address posted on the internet, the harassment and stress is there. And in some extreme cases, there are scammers taking advantage of people's negligence and using their IDs for more malicious scams and fraud.

I almost got doxxed but i never put my real name. Just my first name and random last name. So nobody has actually done it and i hope they dont. But ive seen people in discords get doxxed and never log on again.
Also good to note that in the US most voting databases are public, leading to 90% of the US population over 18 being on background checking websites. Even your parents first name and state can lead to all information in under a minute.

I got doxxed, then I got mass reported for "cyberbullying" discord banned me for a day and when I told discord support about the people doxxing me, they replied a MONTH later with "u were banned for a fair reason and it already expired so there's nothing we can do", they didn't even care about the fact that that server doxxed and harassed me

I got doxxed by a group in discord too. Its because I banned him from my discord servers and blocked him. Now he took my face as his pfp. Im making a game and the group knows about it, if the game gets successful, then they could do a lot of damage to me.
Earlier this month i was doxxed and harassed along with my family and i kept having 900 dollar pizzas sent to my house for weeks, and then the god damn swat team was called and cops were called about 8 freaking times almost everyday and the people who are harassing me that called them told them that i was about to shoot up a school. my parents or i thankfully didn't get shot. and the cops were understanding, its really sad that other people have to go through the same fate as me and possibly even worse its disgusting people think this is ok and hilarious, good news is that few of the people who did that crap got arrested and charged. since i reported this stuff asap.

Being mindful of the information you reveal online is incredibly important. Obviously, don't put your full name in your username and don't link accounts with your name. +1 to all of what NTTS said on this.
Being careful about the little things you reveal is the important takeaway for most people imo. Stuff like first name, age. Maybe mentioning where you go to school or something, or even just local events you "live near". Even if you're "not afraid of harassment on social media", malicious actors knowing where your address is TERRIFYING.
If you're worried, start small. Try googling yourself! Username, username and first name, etc. ask a trusted friend (an irl friend please dear god) to try to find information on you based on your profile and what you've shared online! I had a friend do this and I was able to eliminate a connection between my full name and my parent's address. Something as simple as a google search for your username and first name can help you find problematic connections.

This is a mistake I've noted my friends making a lot: not all stores are available across all of America. Some are really regional whether you know it or not. Only six states have Ingles. Only ten have Food Lion. Only eight have Cumberland Farms. Only a whopping five have Stop and Shop. Only five or so have Giant Eagle. No, Island Pacific Supermarket isn't across the country (I thought the name gave that away). The point is, always be careful. You never know what tiny details are immediately slimming your location down to a series of easy-to-rule-out states. Be safe.

I was in a server (not too proud of it bcz of what they did) , and it was supposed to be a 'professional' server with all the proper staff and moderation. they had their own pros and cons, but the thing i want to highlight is that one specific event that made me feel disgusted and leave that server for good. [I am NOT going to reveal the server name or the ppl in there bcz of their privacy.]
I applied to be one of the staff there and got 'accepted' as the 'trial staff'. the owner was nice to me at start but never appreciated the stuff i did for the server. I made friends with another staff there and after few weeks, i noticed sudden increase in the server but my friend was resigning as the staff (they had been a staff since the beginning of that server.) and they told me to do the same. i asked the reason (because the 'staff server' was only for the ppl who were 'staff' and not 'trial staff') and it was because the owner of the server DOXXED one of their own friend (co owner) because 'they were creating conflicts and arguing with the owner.' + the co owner was right in this case and had valid opinions and opposed the bad decisions of the owner.
Not only that, in their staff only server, the owner was PROUD of the doxxing they did and were cursing at the co owner and all with other members cheering for the same.
Doxxing is something you shouldn't be PROUD of. you are stealing someone's private info without their knowledge. please report people who do it and be careful yourself too to never attempt this disgusting act. Let's make sure that everyone's discord experience remains a happy one!

I work a side job doing photography, so information is pretty much out there because of governmental requirements. Mainly aim to just not do anything that can fire back at me, doxxing is really bad still and should never be a thing, always inform the local authorities if you have been.

A group of players tried to dox me one time over discord because they had a vendetta against me. Fortunately due to the volume of reports I sent discord actually responded and a few months later a majority of the users accounts had either been suspended or deleted.

Discord needs to make it against TOS to provide such identifying information like a drivers license. I've seen too many servers on power trips demanding that users send drivers license or passport verification of identity. There is a reason why no website will ask you for this, why would a server owner need to?
The excuse of 'age verification' doesn't fly because no website or program, no matter the 'content', actually verifies your age except for gambling applications.
Thereâs one big reason why servers (specifically nsfw and/or 18+ servers) have ID checks. Itâs to prove that their members are actually adults. Otherwise, itâs easy to lie and claim to be 18 or older, which can create a dangerous situation.
Just a tip for everyone that I've been following more and more hardcore since websites and corporations have been getting more and more intrusive with the shit they want, never give someone information about you or access to anything that you aren't convinced they need to have for a good reason. No discord server needs to see your driving licence, blizzard don't need your phone number to let you play their videogame, but obviously if you're buying something on the internet from somewhere trustworthy, they will need some kind of payment method and your address. Just be sensible and look at what is standard and treat anything that wants to know more about you than is standard with extreme suspicion.

In discord profile connections, Steam is one that could be used. Someone could join the server, scan the members for profile connections, and if a Steam connection is found, then they can attempt a Steam scam like the "accidentally reported you" one and probably all the other ones.
This is probably one of the oldest ways of getting scammed

My friends and I all had our cameras on together, and just from the shirt I was wearing they were smart enough to look up the text and found my address, phone number, and family names (because my family works at the website they were brought to when they looked it up.) Now im threatened many times every single day if I don't comply with what they ask. This has been happening for a couple months now. I never realized before how a friend could change so much of my life. They have already leaked everything to multiple servers when I didn't want to play a game with them. I have been spam called, my parents yell at me for it, and people have showed up at my house. There is not much to do about it.

I used to fake all my info on social media, I faked my age, my nationality, my location, etc. Literally all my info on social media was fake, but then in the recent past I felt guilty for doing that, so I decided to change completely, I left social media for some time, returned back after some time but this time with my real identity, real name, real age, real location, real nationality, etc. Everything was crystal clear and genuine, I never hid anything from anyone, the only thing people did not know was what I looked like, and my address. that's it. they knew my general location though, although thankfully (phew!) nothing bad has happened till now and I 've mostly stopped using social media, after watching your videos I've realized that I was better off faking my personality online than being "genuine".
Even if i was doxxed i would have enough time to run away and start a new life as a french citizen in Paris.

Discord can be a really toxic place. Back in 2020 when I was 15, I joined a Discord server a Minecraft CZcamsr had advertised, which had a pretty large NSFW section. Being a hormonal teenager who did not know any better I was lured into it and they pushed me to do pretty questionable things, despite knowing I very well shouldn't have been in there as a 15 year old. When they were done, they spread rumors of ME being a... p*do and would blackmail me into doing more stuff with the threat of reporting me to Discord T&S as I was underage being in 18+ NSFW channels.
These people are very highly ranked and respected in the Minecraft community, so everyone would take their word at face value and believe them with absolutely no proof. I've been harassed and threatened by numerous people ever since then, kicked out of communities and anyone who dares to think otherwise gets targetted as well. While I'm not doxed (yet), people have still been able to dig up some pretty obscure details in an attempt to. They managed to figure out the school I go to but my school has strict policies about student privacy so they're obviously not gonna leak any of my information that way.
It is scary what people can be made to do, and the lengths people to do try to hurt someone on the internet. For someone reading this, I can't stress how important it is to **never make any single mention of your real identity** for an online identity you use in a toxic or hostile community, and even put out red herrings. Use a pseudonym, pretend you live in a slightly different part of town (one you know slightly about, but do not actually live in), accidentally leak fake details, anything to get people off the trail because **sooner or later you will fail your OpSec** (because you're human) and if people can't tell apart red herrings from an actual lapse in your OpSec, that's perfect. I was lucky enough to have practiced much of this beforehand (being taught at an early age to stay as close to anonymous on the internet), but being targetted really made me take it more seriously and .

Also, a good tip is making using a false name and picture everywhere, and, by exemple, using an inexistant number of your street. So that it's coherent information but not actually true

Before I watch the video, something "funny" that happened to me a year or two ago on Discord.
My friend asked me if they could log into my account (Now, while most people wouldn't, and shouldn't do this, I did accept, they are a very very trusted friend of mine who I know very well.), I told them yes and they tried logging in, since the had never logged into my account obviously, Discord sent me an email to verify it's me, but the thing is, when Discord sends this email, there's some additional information, including IP Address. So I got the email, told them I had their Ip Address and they.. Didn't care because it turned out they were at a friends house LMAO
So I just have that email sitting there and I have their friend's Ip address
if someone doxes you and says your ip, i say this, "Thats what my VPN says" and it shuts em up

True i got blackmailed for ownership on one of my servers with my ip and remember being so scared and shaking and everything... luckily nothing else happened, but i can imagine how it must feel to actually get your information posted to the public...
As a guy that almost got doxxed in CZcams, yea I got really hurt when I was having an argument with someone then a guy threathen me to dox and then put false IP on the community tab. He tried to dox but failed attempt and yet that post is still on my head. Imagine getting Ur IP on a CZcams post
Did that mistake by connecting, uhhh, Facebook account to my discord years ago... I haven't been doxxed, but a random discord user calling me by my full name wasn't the best moment of my life. Since then I removed everything that showed my personal info.

What I like to do is lie, pretend to have different jobs, talk about the weather like I live in an area I don't, and other things like that.
Mainly because I know that if I stayed perfectly truthful and had any sort of presence online, somebody would eventually be able to connect the dots. But since I lie about alot of stuff, suddenly it's not just connecting the dots, it's figuring out which dots are good, and which are red herrings. Even if you could theoretically figure out the pattern to tell which one is which, it'd be so much more effort that it wouldn't be worth it for anyone without a personal grudge. And since I tend to lurk basically everywhere, that probably won't be an issue.

I actually got recently doxxed on discord, after emailing discord with proof and the culprits they refused to take any action on the culprits who clearly were spreading my personal information.
I recently had some online harassment and had to private my twitter account. It wasn't much but I realised afterwards so many ways people could find who I was. So, after about a week I managed to remove most connections to me.

it tells you how to dodge a dox by telling how to dox, its funny that most people think doxing is some intense hackerman shit but in reality its just searching through your socials.
I got doxxed by sending them a video of myself spelling their username for an alleged prize (they made me think it was a contest) and they sent it in a server that i was it (which was allegedly the one where all of the contestants were) and they spammed me and mocked me and insulted me, and now im scared for my life and i do not know what to do.
Sometimes you can't even know where the person exactly is by IP, you need to contact the provider for that and they will never give you.
This was a very insightful video. I try to be conscious of if what I say could be used to doxx me (actually not an much of a conscious effort as an anxious over worrying problem) but I did take a minute to delete some messages in some servers that were a bit revealing of personal information.

Never click ANY links on discord, unless you trust them as your friends fully. Really only your like actual good friends cause I got RATTED recently and it's wayy worse than doxxing, lucky I shut off my WiFi and pc but never turn it on ever again, but if you get to reset ur PC then do it because he was on my PC and deleted essential components to reset. Good luck everyone. Discord is a really scary place sometimes never get into hacking or anything cause that is what I did and that's how I lost my discord account and my PC.
