- During the set-piece battle stage of the Boer War (1899-1902), the Boers always gathered for a short sermon before entering into battle. They prayed and sang psalms. Such a gathering was always concluded by the loud and inspirational singing of the Boer Battle Song (Boerenkrijgslied). The Boer Battle Song is originally a Dutch victory song, called Merck toch hoe sterck, which means See how strong. The Boers adapted the lyrics and called it the Boerenkrijgslied (Boer Battle Song). This music video contains original visual material form the Boer War and is performed by the Bach Choir, Pretoria, South Africa.

I’m a Canadian but I’m also a descendent of the Dutch Settlers of New York back when it was New Amsterdam. On my mum’s side my Great Grandfather was an Irishman in the British army and he fought in the Boer war. With this I say God Bless and Long Live the struggle of the Boers, Rhodesians and the like. One struggle now faces all the European peoples and they were the first ones to face it.

A little-known fact these days is that the Boers were not imperialists -- they were farmers looking for unoccupied farming land, nothing more. They also had a strong sense of freedom, bordering on the anarchism of Proudhon. Each farm was a republic on its own, and each farmer the president of his own republic. To avoid further conflict with the Xhosas who were moving westwards looking for farming and grazing land, while the Boers were moving eastwards with the same aim, they crossed the almost impassable Drakensberg where there was unoccupied land in the plains. The various Nguni people in Natal preferred the hilly country where they could protect themselves from marauding clans and tribes. The Boers entered into an agreement in good faith with the most ambitious and imperialist Nguni leader (of the Zulu clan or tribe) agreeing on which land they could use. They had left their guns outside Dingane's Great Kraal -- but he turned on them treacherously and had about a hundred men tortured and impaled. He then sent out his impis to murder people in all the unprotected settlements -- still the biggest ect of genocife in South African histoyr. More than 500 women and children, -- including infants -- and elderly men, white, 'Coloured' and Black (Sotho servants) were butchered. This resulted in the defensive action at Blood River after which the Boers and their anti-Zulu Nguni allies chased Dingane to Swaziland, where the Swazis Nguni executed him. This was where the unfortunate distrust of Black people originated -- something which is now being made worse by that lubricious crook in Nkandla (Jacob Zuma). The deaths in Kitchener's camps were not intentional -- which does not make them forgivable -- ten percent of the Boer population perished in this camps -- as well as a similar number of Black people who had lived on Boer-owned farms. But nothing justified the extremes of Apartheid, or the kind of facist vitriol spouted by some of those commenting on videos like this. some of your points are somewhat incorrect and just to clarify the Boers did not invent apartheid, the British did in the 1800s. The Boers fought against the illegal oppressive macro state of the British. They were also not simply farmers looking for land, that is a lie and ignorantly disrespectful towards the Boerevolk. Concentration camps not intentional? I think you need to go do your homework.
Then you talk about apartheid as if it ended. The present day apartheid is far worse then it was under the Afrikaner government. In fact apartheid is in the exact form as it was when it was created and the fact that the borders of the country are exactly the same as they were when SA union was created in the South Africa act of 1909 proves this very point. Apartheid was only deemed necessary to rule such a unnatural country. It can only end when the land is given back to each of the previously free respective nations as it was before the Boer war where each people had their own land.

They built a beautiful country with first world facilities..where everything worked..first world Schools, Universities, Hospitals, ( worlds first heart transplant) first world infrastructure..the likes that had never been seen in any African country or never will..Then they just gave their beloved country away to be destroyed and become just another lawless 3rd world country 😢

For their diligence and ability to preserve their national identity in an unfriendly environment...
