Joe Kinnear: Former Wimbledon manager and Tottenham defender dies aged 77

    Joe Kinnear, the former Tottenham defender and Wimbledon manager, has died at the age of 77.
    Dublin-born Kinnear, who won the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup as a player with Tottenham, went on to manage Luton, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle among others.
    A statement from his family said: "We are sad to announce that Joe passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by his family."
    His wife Bonnie revealed in 2021 that her husband had been living with dementia since 2015.
    Wimbledon paid tribute to their former manager in a statement, reading: "Everyone connected with Wimbledon was deeply saddened to hear the news that our former manager, Joe Kinnear, has passed away.

    Born in Merton Wimbledon but raised in Ireland I still followed the crazy gang through thick and thin but Joe was a true hero and master manager and he will never be forgotten. R.i.p Joe 😕

    R.I.P joe from a Doncaster rovers fan, very sad my thoughts are with his family, sadly I know how devastating dementia can be having lost my nana to it back in 2019

    Former players rarely live to a great old age - and so many get dementia in their 60s and 70s, before passing away a few years later…
    Could heading the ball for many years as a player have anything to do with it?

    I met him once at Miami airport, I looked across and said to my wife I’m going to say hello . Oh but don’t embarrass yourself. So I wondered over and said , hey are you Roy kinnear . Err No I think he’s dead awkward
