Radio Shack has some great gear. Some was right up there with the big names as far as specs. The previous owners of that unit cherished it because you rarely find such a mint quality example like the one you have there. Rock on!
Nice piece...all the magazines at the time hailed that receiver line outstanding, my grandfather had the model below this one and it was a fantastic receiver , this is when Radio Shack tried
I had that big boy back in my young days and it was the biggest reciever made by Realistic and i had the Optimus-25 speakers which were good speakers and it sounded good and i paid about 800 dollars for it new back then.
My dad had that receiver when I was growing up. We had the loudest system in the neighborhood lol. He actually still has it but doesn't use it anymore.
i had a 2100d... loved it,,,sold it to a friend he gave it to his boy..still uses it ,,i just got a 2000d off ebay,,,all it needed was some tlc caps even tested like new ..a shocker
I HAVE ONE NOT THE D JUST SERVICED AND CLEANED. 2100 STA, 120 WATTS OF THE CLEANEST POWER IV HEARD. WITH ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL. ALL PAPER WORK, AND LIST OF WHAT WAS REPLACED. THINKING OF LETTING IT GO 4 THE RIGHT PRICE. TONS OF POWER, VERY CLEAN POWER.
I have a near mint pair of 1974 Realistic Optimus 7 speakers that would be incredible with that receiver. They were the best speakers RadioShack ever offered and they were only sold for two years.
Yeah back when tandy made equipment that was actually pretty damn good . My bro n law had the 2600 with t100 speakers and it rocked hard . I was 15 at the time so I know it jammed cause i popped several fuses in the receiver
I still own the STA200D that is was before the STA 2100D it work Perfectly as Yesterday. Got Turn Table on it. Double Cassette Tape, CD Player I even Hookup to my Laptop for Quality Sound from CZcams CD's etc..Oh, Still have My Match one Speakers. I had it since 1980. Of course I have to change the Turn Table for a New one and a New Double Cassette Tape Deck that was it.
I remembered many american branded electronics looked like the japanese in the HiFi magazines. I was a kid and I could tell it was exactly the same model except the name. Roberts open reel by Akai, Ampex same as Teac. Later on I learned the phrase OEM. There were others that slipped my memories.
That is a fantastic receiver and I don't doubt that it sold very quickly. I would have bitten your arm off if it was still for sale except that I am in the UK and the cost of shipping and import can often exceed the asking price thus doubling the price. Please forgive me if I am wrong as I am a total amateur when it comes to these matters but I always believed that the 2100 was a slightly better machine as it had a toroid transformer exactly like the Pioneer and that Pioneer sued and so Realistic had to stop using them and the result was the 2100D which had a standard transformer. I could be totally wrong of course. That said, I would still bite your arm off for this incredible receiver.
I have seven of them. Pioneer did not Sue realistic that is not true. Tandy went with the other transformer to save 💲 the Dolby model is just as good. I own both
Huh, D for Dolby. All this time I just thought it was to designate it was the non-torodial version because they got sued. Never realized they threw in Dolby and put a D on there for it.
I like Realistic brand because it was really realistically made with realistic price in mind with realistic functions plus realistic performance in mind. How much more realistically can it get?
That thing is GORGEOUS and I do not have one in my collection. I would rather the STA2100 because it had the round transformer but Pioneer sued and Radio Shack had to remove it and here we have the STA2100D Radio Shack had SUPERIOR QUALITY in there day but had to succumb to all the cheap Chinese SHIT we all know of today. I recently spend $2000 on a Bose soundbar system and it is made in CHINA! Apple cell phones are STILL made in CHINA! Pisses me off!
I bought this receiver new back in 1980. I just tried it out today, and found the left channel was weak compared to the right. I turned it off and worked all the switches and volume controls back and forth and now it is working fine! In the past the main power switch started developing a bad arcing connection. When I looked at it I saw the switch had 2 sets of contacts, but they only used one. I moved the wires to the other set instead of just using both (which I should have done). In a couple of years that set of contacts started acting up. I eventually added a relay to the circuit to handle the power by having the switch power the relay, which powered on the receiver. Has anyone else had this problem?
@@sellsubz I don’t know. I just think that the power switch is underrated, and if they connected both sets of contacts in parallel it would have lasted longer.

Handsome piece of kit.
Love the lattice grilles on the speakers too.
Awesome piece 👏...!

Loved mine ! Sold awhile pack Pioneer !!
They made some decent gear back in the day

I bought a pair of those speakers in the 70's
Nice receiver. I want one.
Beautiful reciver, have some havy bass but sounds good overall
That's why I like it the heavy bass sound. It's in the preamp section.
I always thought they’re speakers were made by Cerwyn Vega … loved mine !
they weren't.
That looks just like a pioneer SX series. I still have my SX580 and SX780.
Picked up a realistic 12 band stereo frequency eq recently. Works really well.

I'd love to have one but I like having a remote.
nice unit! 👍
I’d like to have it back. Ones in this condition don’t come along but once in a few years. I think they are worth $1000.
@John Landry yep, I went looking on ebay after watching and between 1-1.2k is what they're listed at and that one is in excellent shape.

yes, Radio Shack did indeed OEM receivers for others. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1laZVTI-3JgO9iTXwHc7I0mEpfSqb8O0bREcGWk10oiM/edit?usp=sharing
Jaw drop. Holy Grail.
What's the name of the song that's playing on their??
Alot of older realistic was just rebranded pioneer with usually more power than the competition.
Pioneer didn't get involved until the BPC era began on the 90s. Pioneer made NO Realistic audio.
Foster Electronics.

John I'm interested in buying this receiver. is it still available?
is it still available?
Thats an outstanding deal !

I didnt know radio shack made a receiver as good as that it looks like a pioneer sx 1050-80
Frankie ~ It was made by FISHER.
it was made by Tandy Electronics. Haven't heard that Fisher fairy tale before.

Anybody know where I can buy one of those receivers
I have 4 vintage stereos in my collection.
Marantz 2230
Sansui 881
Realistic sta 2080
Realistic sta 2100D
I like Realistic brand because it was really realistically made with realistic price in mind with realistic functions plus realistic performance in mind. How much more realistically can it get?
Let's be real about it !!!
That’s Real talk.
@John Landry , I've been after one of these forever, If you still have it. I'll purchase it. Paypal Ready!
I own a mint condition 2100D that I’ll keep forever.
I would love to but a vintage. sell me one?
Hi John just curious as to why you would make a video on such a beautiful receiver and not bother hooking up even a simple wire for the FM antenna?
John is the receiver sold?? If not I’m interested
It sold. I’ll be on the lookout for another nice one.
Por favor como se conecta a salida de voz y bajo
Receiver Hi Fi no recomendable para instrumentos musicales, solo reproduccion de musica

CEC IIRC.

Was there a spark resistor in the power switch circuit? I see the power/volume pots on vintage equipment fail more so.

@@agostinodibella9939these are known for bad power switches
I bought a stereo from the "it'll go into stereo with an antenna" guy....sure it will.
could you make a video and let us hear receiver, instead of you talking
Lost me right at the get go. Speak clearly dude.
